Thanks for the reply Dick. I thought the starter I had was from a Pinto but
it turns out to be from a Ford V8. I'll get a Pinto one and give it a try. I
have both a 2.3 and a 2.0 bellhousings. The only differences are the two holes
on the top are higher on the 2.3 and don't line up with the holes on the block
and it is 1/2 inch deeper. The T9 I have is from the UK so the output shaft is
1/2 in shorter. The 2.0 bellhousing from the Pinto fits perfectly. They both
bolt to the T9.
Is the aluminum casing you are talking about part of the oil pan? If that is
the case I've already modified mine.

My locost is setup with a 98 Contour engine.  The bell housing is from a 2.3 Pinto.  I had to modify the lower aluminum casing and  have a pinto starter bolted on and I'm using a T9 tranny.  Not sure if the 2.0 and the 2.3 housings are the same or not.  If the tranny bolts up okay I'd use it.  The bendix end of the starter housing (the flat spot) will need to be filed down to clear the flywheel.  Also you need to modify the plate between the block and the bell housing.  If you need tham I have more pictures.

I know this list is not very active...or active at all. I'll ask a question
anyway. I'm putting a T9 5 speed behind a Zetec from a 96 Contour using a
bellhousing from a 71 - 73 2.0 Ford Pinto. Has anyone else done this and what
starter works with this combination? Thanks. Here is a link to the Cortina GT
that's getting the Zetec.
