I've cleaned out the crank case by removing the engine ,taking off the
jugs, filling the crank case with kerosene and dumping it in a bucket.Don't turn
the crank just fill and dump a couple times with clean kero. After you do this
a few (3usually) times fill the crank case with 2 stroke oil and move the rods
up & down.If they move smoothly you are good to go. Then dump that oil out in
the bucket leaving the motor upside down for an hour or so. Turn it upright and
move the rods up & down. They should be smooth and all fully lubricated. Now you
can put it back together providing the rods moved up & down smoothly of course.
I've done this many times,I usually do it when I do a top end just to be sure
there is no crap in there. Ed T

just have to prevent as many as possible from getting in there. A shop vac with
a corner attachment does a decent job. Once you can get in there, put a rag in
the hole. I think the use of penetrating oil will help the crumbs stick rather
than drop into the case. Then it's a matter of wiping as much as you can off
the crank and case.
