Re: Bsa Wm20 warming up

The capacitor is fitted to the armature of the magneto and is for all intents &
purposes not
an item for the home mechanic to repair.
The original design was done to break patients & thus avoid paying royalties.
It is a tar paper & aluminium foil job which has a service life of 10 to 20
years so if yours
has not been done it will need to be. The modern replacements are good for 50
years+ so
it should be the last time you have to get it fixed.
A lot of riders have tried to fix theirs & most botch the job horribly then have
to take their
mess to the magneto repairers and get charged even more.

A couple of other things to think about.
I find that I have to run a hotter plug , GNK BP-5-HS instead of the recommended
BP 6 or
BP 7 because the softer plugs give me trouble when the bike is really hot.
I also run the ignition slightly retarded from factory specks as the unleaded
fuels have a
different burn rate to the old standard that the M20 was designed to run on & I
have also
gone up 2 sizes on the main jet.
