Well, yes but no.  Jack Ashcraft sells a replacement rubber seal and since it is fatter than the original he sends this tooled aluminum plug that is a little longer for you to thread the latch onto.  If you do not replace the seal the plug may be too long, worth asking him about.  Course it is silver in color, not black, but there is paint!!!

For those of you familiar with the mechanism that holds the rear hatch glass closed on a Sonett III, there's a black plastic plug or button on the outside of the glass that holds a locking pin to the underside of the glass.  Unfortunately, the threads inside the plastic button don't seem to welcome repeated use after 36 years.  Long story short, my trunk popped open yesterday after pulling out into my driveway.  Doh!

Does anyone know of a source for a replacement button?

I've used uship twice and gotten good independent truckers both times.   Prices came in right about half of DAS.

These were both open transport jobs, but the truckers were good folks, on time and no surprises.  In both cases they did a full vehicle inspection at pickup and then went over it with me and the car at drop off.

I'm looking into getting a 96 shipped from near Seattle, WA to Louisville, KY. Any recommendations for someone good to ship it? I did some research recently and was pretty discouraged, even Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS), which I believe was the eBay-recommended service at one time, had a lot of bad reviews.

I had trouble finding a shipper willing to deliver to the upper left coast.  BATS MotorSports is a NW company (Wasco, OR) and provides enclosed transport, for me from NY to OR.  I had excellent communication throughout the process.  They work only on a referral basis.  Call Karen at 541-980-3153.  –Cliff Johannsen

Ah--the rear main seal!  So I won a case of Mobil 1 at SOC06, started using it in my V4 Sonett, and alas developed a monster oil leak at the rear main seal--manifested in a slipping clutch--At SOC07. Limped home. My theory is that the synthetic "cleaned up" the crud keeping the seal tight. So I had to pull the engine. So the plan was the lightened flywheel, new clutch, new throwout and rebuilt throwout fork--then did the add-on stuff discussed earlier.
