I'm going to the Dearborn meet, in 0U11W702084--assuming nothing heappens on the
way, to prevent the car from getting there.
Anyone else plan to be there?

The Southlanders Edsel club invite all Edsel enthusiasts to join them
in a Labor Day weekend 2007 celebration of the 50th anniversary of
E-Day (which, as we all know was on Tuesday, September 4, 1957).
The 1957 calendar is the same as the 2007 one.
This will be a multi-day event (Friday, Saturday, into Sunday, but
not including Monday, leading up to the actual 50th anniversary of
E-Day) in the Glendale/Burbank area of Los Angeles.
It is being designed so that out of town guests can fly into the
Burbank airport to attend it (rather than the more crowded LAX).
Plans include a tour of sites where Edsel dealerships once stood,
parts sales (but probably not a formal auction), banquet with
entertainment, and an orphan car show (on Saturday morning).
If one is happening, participants may also be able to attend a taping
of the Jay Leno Tonight show on Thursday afternoon. (We can get
tickets--we don't yet know if the show is taping on that date).
Pre-registration will open in March 2007.
Think about coming to sunny Southern California for this Edsel
gathering, next year, when scheduling your vacation dates.
More details as we get exact hotel prices and locations.
Hi,
I'm new to this club. I'm a photographer with a classic car website,
motorlegends.com. That's me on the homepage, in my Edsel shirt. The Edsel image
is
silkscreened from a photo I took of Peter LaChapelle's (New England EOC) '58
Edsel. (There is a photo of Peter with his Edsel on the site.) I produce these
shirts and sell them on the site, and naturally I hope some of you will buy
them.
They make great holiday gifts.
There's lots of other fun stuff on the site, art cars, people & cars,
CarToons, and more. You can learn about Richard Nixon's biggest mistake.

1. Longer wheelbase
2. Different rear suspension
3. trim (as anyone can see)
4. Edsels have hood release latches inside car, 60 Fords don't (usually)
They share some (but not all) sheet metal and the windows with the
Fords (and Canadian Meteors), share most (but again, not all)
mechanical parts.
All 1960 Edsels (except a few pilot cars) were built in Louisville
Kentucky.
Not all 1960 Fords were.

Not quite. You got the number right. They did make 76 convertibles
(and 59 station wagons) out of 2,846 units altogether, but they were
produced for about 3 months.
The thing that was a month (actually a month and four days long) was
the time they were sold to the public.
The 1960 Edsel was introduced for sale on October 15 1959, and
discontinued on November 19, 1959. It never made it to its model year.

This may be a repeat e-mail for people on the other Edsel groups, but
just in case you haven't seen this yet, please read on...
I recently started making Edsel buttons--1.5" pinback buttons to wear
on your jacket/hat/etc--and I am now offering up some for sale. It
would be a group of 25 buttons featuring images mostly from the Edsel
Viewmaster reels. A set of 25 buttons for $20 plus shipping. Here is
a glimpse of what they look like:

If you are interested, please e-mail me off of the group.

There is what appears to be a 1960 Ranger Convertible on eBay. It's
actually a Ford. Seems some old geezer bought it and thought it was
an Edsel and 10 yrs later sold it to some dealer who ran the VIN and
found out it's a clone.
I can't believe that anybody would have been faked out so bad. It
looks real nice, has the wierd tail lights and all.
I'm not an Edsel expert but I wonder how much different the '60
Edsels were from the Fords. The dashboards for example?
It's a beautiful car none the less, They only made '60 Edsel
convertibles for one month and about 76 in all. It would be worth a
lot more if it were a real Edsel.
Anybody want a funky seafoam green '59 4dr? $3995 on some lot in
Sacramento. 59's suck.
Am looking for a '58 Edsel. Prefer Citation, but would consider
other series also. Must run and be drivable. Condition of body and
interior unimportant. would like it to be resoanbly close to St
Louis area....let me know what you have for sale.
Check out this place for Auctions and Fixed price Sales (No
listing fee).
I personally liked the amazing : "AUTO-RELIST UNTIL SOLD" option.

I recently purchased a 1959 Edsel Ranger and am now looking for
dependable car insurance at a reasonable rate. The only hang up is
that I plan on actually driving my car occasionally, especially more
than the 2500 to 5000 miles per year most Classic Car Insurance
companies limit you to.
Does any one have a daily driver that is insured with reasonable
insurance?
If you're talking about the one on the front of the group web site, I
don;t think so, sut Steve would know...

"...inspiration always seems to come easier with a corndog clutched

Hello All,
I'm new to these groups (sorry for the crossposting, hope that's OK)
and have a question.
I just bought a 58 Ranger Sedan with teletouch transmission... it has
a pretty wicked transmission leak... you can see the trail down the
street, it's that bad. probably some gasket rotted out... :)
so i'm taking it to a mechanic next tuesday, but in the meantime, i
was going to tighten up the bolts under the car (the ones for the
transmission pan -- sorry for the layman's terms)... there seem to be
just four to tighten... is that correct? any advice?
also, the dashboard lights do not work, but i've been unable to
locate the fuse box. any leads on a shop manual for the 58 Ranger?
thanks folks!

I don't like the new group format. With the clubs on the homepage it
always showed if there were new postings. Now I gotta go through each
group to see if anything's new. Oh well...............
