Has Triumph Abandoned us riders of standard motorcycles with some real power?
I have nothing against the Boneville models but I want to beable to at least
roll down the highway tank after tank of fuel at 110mph like my TBS does.
I like sitting on a classic bike with a real motor with some oomph, amd can run
with streetfighters and some sportbikes while still looking old school.
Well it looks like as long as I can keep it running i'll be running from
cruisers and chasing the squids.

Guy.

I just purchased a like new 2000 TBS and drove it just a little over last
weekend. Awesome bike, and I can't wait to get back on it this weekend.

The bike came only with the solo seat and seat cowl. I also need to source a
two-up seat, and would much prefer the classic bench style as opposed to what is
offered by Corbin, or the King and Queen seat, etc.

Will any Thunderbird seat work,or does it have to be a TBS seat? Any ideas
where I can find one or what other options I have?

Thanks!

Thunderbird and TBS seats have different locations for the rear latch pin. You
can modify (move) the pin on the early seat to match the location on your bike.
Let me know if you want to sell your solo seat.

I had the exact same problem, the TBS I purchased was also a solo seat only set
up.... looks great, is comfortable even on long runs.... but I needed that
second seat.
Tried posting here for seat..Ebay, some of the after market guys...and like you
did not want the Mustang or Corbin options.
Even tried scrap yards over the fall and winter.... even some of The British
aftermarket guys...NO good. Not even a base to be had to re-cover.
I just last week had to bite the bullet and ordered one from my local Triumph
dealer. Not Cheap, but I know it will fit and has all the parts needed.

Good luck on your search...but if you keep that expectation in the realm of I
might need to buy a new one, it will be easier if or when you do.

These bikes are cult bikes, and are getting more difficult to find in good
shape, and those that do have them don't let parts go to easily. They are great
bikes...no argument there, like a Bonneville on steroids. But they did not sell
a lot at first and the aftermarket reflects that sadly, as even those that did
make parts, have stopped.

Again, not trying to shatter your hopes.. just trying to have the right
expectation.
As I also thought " hey no problem, just find the owners group, there will be
some one out there that wants to get rid of parts."
These are good guys and quick with answers, but they know when to hang on to
stuff as well.

You can get a seat from any local dealer or right from Bike Bandit.com as well.
If an AMA member you can get a discount on your order too.

I have an immaculate bench seat for sale, the standard one from the TBS.

They're $650 from my local dealer - make me an offer?

I have a gently used TBS stock seat if you are interested in a trade or
purchase. I replaced it with a Sprint Manufacturing seat on my '98 TBS soon
after buying it, so it is just sitting on a shelf.

Let me know if you are interested.

Actually there is no latch pin at all on a stock thunderbird seat, the bolt
on with two bolts screwed into the ends of the frame tubes under the rear of
the seat. I believe that the TBS has the threaded holes on the ends of the
frame tubes even thought they were not used from the factory, so if you had
a tbird seat and the bolts it shoud fit fine. Hope that helps.

I don't know about the last production run of Thunderbirds but the earlier
models and the TBS seat were attached the same way, a single pin into a
latch that is operated with a remote key lock located in the left cover
attached to the auxiliary chamber. The Corbin saddles listed as Thunderbird
95 - 97 are designed for this type of attachment. The orientation of the
latch pins were opposite of each other. In the past TBS owners have fitted
the Corbin saddle by reversing the latch pin.

http://www.corbin.com/triumph/tbird.shtml

Looking at the parts schematics for the Thunderbird at bikebandit.com there
was a change in the several parts at serial number 71699 and above. One of
those changes is switching from the earlier remote locking seat latch to the
bolt on style seat. I was unable to tell what year that took place. I
believe that the bolt on seat attachment was Triumph using up left over
Legend TT stock.

So if you are looking for a Thunderbird/Adventurer/Legend TT two up seat to
fit a TBS simply match up the attaching method.

Hi
Something like that happened to me. It warmed up good, but after 15mins on the
roa d it would cough and ran weak, like on 2 cylinders, when it cooled it ran
fine again.I had the carbs checked and cleanedrefilled the radiator, and it
returned after 15-20 mins into the ride I had to change the coils to nology
coils, now it's good again.--look out the T-bird is back.

Good day...had similar problems in 2008.... it got continually worse... while
riding to Myrtle beach from Ohio...the igniter lost one cylinder... ran 500
miles on two cylinders...every once in a while it kicked back in.   She was at
dealer for two weeks as we mades sure and awaited the igniter.   Expensive
repair... but since then...runs like a top.  Crossing my fingers she runs fine
for 2010!

If you have "Gill" coils, I believe it's just a matter of time before they go
bad. And, I've heard they can cause other components to go bad too.

I put a set of Nology coils in my 98 TBS at the beginning of last summer. Ran
better and my gas mileage went up a bit too.

Those Nology coils work way better than the Gills, the Lucas Electric coils of

Hi, I had this problem before December. Finally it has turned out to have two
main causes (up to now) : first, I took the bike to my local dealer and found
that the air box was cracked; secondly, coughing happens whenever the engine is
cold (due to the weather ot to a long pause).

Replacement value question for TBird owners.

After a buddy of mine totalled his bike and found a 3500 differnce in "Cash
value" insurance and exact as possible replacement... I contacted my insurance
company.

My 2001 Jet Black with Lucifer Orange infill and gold coachlines  Adventurer has
a cash value in 2010 of $3700-max 4500 with accesories.  They will total bike if
any repair is above $3500.  My bike has 26000 miles.

I have asked to change my insurance to replacment value.  Nationwide does not
have a "replacement value for Triumph Tbirds/Adventurers"

I was told to come up with the replacement value and they would rate that
number.   A little help.

If I wished  a replacement; same Black/Orange, Triumph full windsheild (value
500), Adventure Saddle Bags (orginal were 550), NEW Tires-brakes, Aux-
headlights, Amplified speakersystem, orange LED engine-wheel kit, Lighter/GPS
mounting, back seat rest/ssisy bar(295 new)/ ....

Any ideas the MAX I would/could  pay to replace my Adventurer?    (cleveland
dealer sold a 2001 T-bird/saddlebags/full shield last year for 7300)

I will price with Progressive & Nationwide.  If and accident happens, even
stolen... I do not wish to be under insured or screwed because of the rarity of
our Triumphs.

Thanks in advance,

I'd think the Tbird and the Adventurer would be worth about the same amount. A
quick peruse of Ebay should give you roughly what you can get the bike for.

My '99 TBS needs new tires.

I like the Dunlop Roadsmart, but it seems they don't make a 160 70 only a 160 60
and I've felt like the Diablo Strada 160 60 I have on the rear now is too low of
a profile--the bike looks lower and I swear, somehow has made the speedo off.

I welcome all tire opinions for the Thunderbird Sport. I ride pretty big miles,
not too sporty, but I want something that will really grip when I do.

Thanks in advance!

Avon Storms. I love them, and great mileage too. I have run Dunlops and Metzlers
and must say I like the Avons and Dunlops equally and the Metzlers not so much.

Try Bridgestone Battlax BT-021's. I had three lots of Avons before giving thee
BT's a go. I find the Avon rear only lasts 4-5000 miles where the Bridgestones
go on for a lot further. They also seem to give a quicker turn in on the front.

+1 on the storms. I put a set on my 98 and they work great even in the rain. I
put about 3500 miles on them last summer still look great.

I'd second that on the BT-021s. The back esp is much better in the wet (the
stock Avon's were mighty slick some days with no groove in the middle) as
well and I found it transitioned into corners a lot more predictably. Price
was decent too.

Hi:

I'm noticing the clutch seems to be locking up a quicker these days. Is
there any easy way to find out how much it is worn?

There are no obvious problems of excessive wear like slipping.
