2l black smoke

Martin diesels dont run rich (or lean). They run deficent of air - there's a
difference.

Ensure your induction system has minimum restrictions - including the air
filter. Do the same for the exhaust.

The naturally aspired 2L engine of that time was reknown for short of power
under the best conditions. The best fix is by replacement with a 2LT(E), 3L or
5L, or 5LE engine (note that ist 5L not 5 litre).

Injection pumps are a precision calilbrated item, and best left to the experts
with appropriate equipment. When have you had the injectors checked, as these
can also lead to a similar symptom.

You did not say where your located. If your located in Australia I can point you
to a competent diesel injection shop.
