Dave,
The 1L motor is well & truely gone! In fact the 3L motor is running on its last
legs.
Almost all the later Toyota TD engines ( 1KD / 2KD & 1KZ) are now electronic -
mainly for emissions reasons.
I have a 1KZ (3.0 litre) TD in my Prado (think Lexus GX470 in USA but with 3.0
TD engine), and get just under 30mpg. However it is tricked up a bit (35% more
power than std), 4WD and I do DRIVE it, but a 'pickup' should have a lower body
weight.
I'm not sure if VW have a suitable engine about the 2.5 litre size. You could
look at the Toyota 2KD as an import (ex EU).

Subject: Need Source for Good Turbo Diesel Engine for my 83 Pickup
hi,
Anyone know a good source for a good Turbo Diesel Engine I can drop
into my 1983 Toyota Pickup DLX 2 wheel drive model?
I want a Turbo Diesel with Automatic Overdrive Transmission. I want
to get better power and fuel economy. I'm so jealous of all the
other diesel cars getting like 40 - 50 mpg and I'm only getting like
25-30 with my non-turbo 1L motor.
I'm thinking of putting a TDI VW Motor or something more modern into
my car. Is the electronic and wiring aspect just too much trouble?
Also, anybody know Pros and Cons about Propane Injection as a power
booster on diesels?
Please Advise me on this I'm slow on the loop here...
THANKS!
Dave
