I had a 2001 model Prius that came without cruise control. I
purchased a new steering wheel assembly (I don't remember what
company, it has been a long time ago), and my son removed the old
steering wheel, with a long break to prepare himself to remove the
air bag assembly, replaced it with the new one and it worked great
until "Snoopy3" (vanity plate) died last month.
We live in Bozeman, MT, about 85 miles from Yellowstone National
Park. My husband, Frank, had gone to the Lake area in Yellowstone
for a Memorial Service for a Park Service friend who had passed
away. On his way back through Hayden Valley, he encountered a group
of six bull bison running straight at our Prius. Five managed to
pass by on the passenger side, but one tried to climb up on top. It
stuck a hoof through the windshield, rolled off and ran off. Snoopy3
didn't survive the encounter. The weight of the bison torqued the
two engines and it was "totaled".
We have a new Prius ordered and it will arrive in December. We will
name it Snoopy3 in honor of our first Prius which I got in Tucson in
August 2001 and it had over 93,000 miles with no troubles. I always
said I would replace it, when the time came, with another Prius. I
just didn't expect it to happen quite this way.
