Description

The group is to share information among owners and others interested in the Toyota Prius. This is the first mass-produced hybrid gasoline-electric vehicle in the world, with 100,000s having been produced world-wide since 1997. A new, improved generation of Prius, the 2004 model, became available in the USA in October 2003.

While many Prius owners would like to discuss climate change, energy alternatives, and related political concerns, the Moderators will be blocking or deleting OFF-TOPIC posts - please direct such discussions to other groups.

If you are interested in the 2004 and subsequent model year Prius, you can also join the Prius-2G group at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Prius-2G/

IF YOU ARE NEW to the group, I suggest you explore the "Files" and "Links" pages--especially the "FAQs" folder in "Links". Also, all new members are initially on 'moderation.' IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT A PARTICULAR PRIUS, please mention the model year, due to significant model year differences.

If you are posting a vehicle FOR SALE message, please make sure that it includes the following information: model year, new or used? (condition and mileage if used/preowned/demo), location, PRICE, option packages and accessory information, availability, and your contact information.

NOTE: Due to the extremely large size of the group, the default reply-to setting is to the author of the message that you are replying to, and not to the whole group. REPLIES YOU SUBMIT TO MESSAGES WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO TO THE ORIGINAL SENDER unless you use the drop-down menu on the reply screen:
"toyota-prius@yahoogroups.com" --> reply to the whole group;
"toyota-prius-owner@yahoogroups.com" --> the Moderators
or use the "reply to all" setting in your email client. --Eric, Sam, and Michelle, moderators. (update 8/25/07) (Photo from Eric--a 2004 Prius containing and carrying 2 kayaks

It would use less energy per mile with the electric recharging. But the extra cost for the car wont pay off the difference. On the other hand...if instead of

The utilities back-off the input energy (coal, gas, diesel etc) when the loads are light. While the generator speed is held constant (60 cycle) they first

Re: Prius plug-in idea.
One concept thrown around on at least one of the DIY plugin Prius forums (may have been a PriusChat thread) has been to force the engine to run at the 15kW
