Take a look at C5martins website- hes gone into some detail on this. Cif is good and washing-up liquid. Probably best advised to remove the pod and elecronics...

Clean all the terminals... sounds like the voltage drop as the motor gets power is kicking out the relay....which drops the current demand so the voltage goes...
