well i parked it about a year ago because it was running bad and did a
compression check and #1 cyl had 0 compression. so i figured it needed an
engine. well friday night or saturday morning someone stole my pick up. you know
that your day is going to be bad when you wake up to a call from the sheriffs
dept. they asked if we owned a truck and said it was in the ditch on its side.
so we drive out to where they found it and it was totaled it had been rolled. so
i had to get the tona running. i pulled the head and all 4 cylinders were
cracked and the head gasket was blowen in 2 spots. but luck would have it i had
a few spares around. got it going today and it runs beter than it did in the
other tona ever or the spirit it come out of .

Red w/white top & gray vinyl interior, located in Dover, PA 17315 It's in
good shape & a pretty solid car. NO RUST. Definitely not a parts car, and
I can't imagine there's many other 88's out there in better physical shape
with 127,000 miles on them.

Here's the GOOD:
It was garage kept & only a fair weather car when I bought it in 11/02 with
76,000. So the undercarriage is clean, clean floors.
It was never hit before I bought it, that I know of, nor while I owned it
(since 11/02).
A/C is COLD.
The top is good, but too tight. I was hoping to replace it either this year
or next.
All windows in working order.
The top motor works fine, it was taken out of a newer vert that was totaled.
The interior is flawless too, with the exception of the right side of the
driver's seat starting to get fold cracks, right under where your right
thigh rests.
Both axles are new within the past year.
New 14" Dunlops in either 8/04 or 6/05, I can't remember, but can check.

Here's the BAD:
The headlights stopped closing some time ago.
The temp gauge stopped working & I never got as far to figure out why.
A lift & slip was done about 2 years ago on the head gasket & it started to
leak again this year, but never more than a quart between 3,000 mile oil
changes.
I put a new rad in about a year & a half ago & it started leaking again, so
I had to keep up on the fluid level. Was planning to replace the rad about
the time she left me sit.
Bernie said there's no compression at #1 & #2. He said the head should be
gone over at least, just to be safe, but thought it might be less work to
just exchange motors if I could get one that's pretty much ready.

I did all my own oil changes, unless I had it at Bernie's for some work. He
did all the work on the car that I couldn't/wouldn't, so he probably knows
it better than I do. That's where the car is now, in Dover. I sure do miss
driving her, there's just something about those Jbody Lebarons that's cool!
But I just don't have the need for another vert. I'm sure I'll have enough
headaches once the Shelby is back on the road, and I definitely need a car
that's less work & is under a warranty. THAT part is nice about my new car.
Would you believe I haven't bought a NEW car since 1987!?! That was the 1st
time too....LOL! All used Mopars ever since.....9 of them! I don't know if
that's good or bad....LOL! Email for pics if interested, I have a ton!
Asking $1000, may be negotiable.
Thanx for your interest.

If anyone in the NE Texas area is interested in a black 85 LeBaron
GTS for practically free hit me up. Car is black, T1, automatic & ran
when parked but hasn't been driven in several years. Car is fairly
clean with one dent in the drivers rear door but has typical
fading/peeling paint. Currently the radiator is
off it along with the airbox pieces, but I think I may have all of the
stuff to go with the car. I've got the keys, two or three spare rims
pizza,
but no title currently although it shouldn't be a problem to get it
since it's in the family. My father passed away suddenly this past
saturday & it was in his name but I've been unable to find the papers
for it. Unfortunately everything here is in such disarray & I may be
forced to have everything out of here soon. I'd really hate to see the
car go to the crusher, so I'm
offering it up here first. Car is located in Paris, TX, which is about
110 miles NE of Dallas. Bring a trailer, or a dolly & an air tank to
pump up the tires if you're brave. If anyone wants pics let me know,
although it could be a day or two before I respond since we're still
trying to sort through everything here. Feel free to call, someone
should be around most of the time. Thanks,

2.5's used the same cam as 2.2 TBI. The 86 and 87 2.5 tall deck used the same
slider cam as 2.2 tbi/carb motors. It is slightly more aggressive than the
tbi roller cam.I found some specs. Looks like there were different roller cams
for 2.2 and 2.5 in 88. I believe all TBI rollers were the same, I have seen the
part numbers, matched. Here is the page:

Would like to know more about the PT lifters in a 2.5.

Hey everyone, I know I haven't posted in a while but I was away at
college. But I have a 88' shelby daytona, and I recently blew my
engine. I wanted to know if having the PCV hose hooked straight to the
manifold could destroy a motor. Cuz #3 Piston is in the oil pan in a
million pieces, and the cylinder half wall is shattered. I figured
with the PCV system being pressurized at 21psi it helped cause this.
If there is any feedback on this please let me know. And if there is
anyother way I could re-rout the PCV hoses I would like to know thanks.

I ran 13.90's with a stock 2.5 bottom end on 13-15psi with a stock head,
stock intake and a stock i/c on street tires in a pig heavy 87 ShelbyZ.
They put up with with way lean a/f ratio's too. If they're mahle pistons
you're good to go. If they're not and they are anything close to a
Hyperutectic piston look out. You can crank the boost on them but ANY
detonation will kill them. But with your low boost levels and if the
pistons are Mahle's then you should be fine. Didn't know they made a 2.5
slidder cam. Be interesting to know the specs on those. I prefer the
rollers myself. The 89 Turbo cam I've been running has been great.
Backed up by PT cruiser lifters I've had no problems moving the air.
I've had problems getting enough fuel to the motor till recently. Good
luck. You'll love the 2.5.

Subject: charging system problems. any suggestions?
jeremyllawson

I started having charging system troubles on the Daytona last week,
and this one currently has me stumped. Car is an 86 Daytona & had the
original style alternator on it. Evidently the voltage regulator
started acting up in the PM, causing sporadic problems. Finally the
other day it must have full fielded the alternator as it's toasted. it
got HOT. So I've got a friend who owns a starter/alternator shop and he
hooked me up with a 120 amp ND alternator and a two wire external
regulator. The regulator is a Transpo unit and has a pot adjustment on
the back to fine tune the voltage. I've mounted the alternator, went
ahead & ran an extra 8 gauge ground from the alternator case to the
negative battery terminal, and mounted the regulator. One wire on the
regulator is key switched, and the other wire goes to one of the small
terminals on the alternator. The other small terminal on the alternator
is grounded with a small loop that hooks it to the same spot that I
grounded the alternator case. Now here is the problem.. I can make it
charge, but anything above about 1500 RPM and it's running the
alternator wide open. I've tried turning the regulator down with the
adjustment, I've ran a ground from the regulator case to the battery &
and no changes. It really has me stumped.

I think the next step is to run a new wire from the post on the
alternator directly to the positive post on the battery & probing the
old wires if I can find my good meter. I've never seen one act like
this, and my alternator shop friend is stumped by it as well. Both the
alternator & the regulator test out fine on a bench tester. Ideas
anyone?

Fel-Pro makes a one piece oil pan gasket for the 2.2 and 2.5. It is
called the Perma Dry Plus. The year listed are for 88-95. Does
anyone know if this gasket is designed for the common block engings?
If so would it work on a pre-common block engine? Such as my 85 2.2
turbo.

I have used their Perma Dry Gaskets on small block Chevy's before and
liked them.

I wouldn't go thru the trouble to do a manual
conversion for a 525. They're stronger than most give
them credit for, but still not strong enough to
warrant the work of the conversion. 520's are readily
available in boneyards, as are 523's. 555/568's are
stronger, but a bit harder to find. But any of those
choices will be the same work to swap in. You'll need
a correct flywheel for your engine (6-bolt for 85, 8
bolt for 86-up), 87-up 5-speed axles or 88-up
automatic axles, the matching shifer and cables, and
then the clutch of your choice. And of course you'd
need the pedal assembly and cable from a G or J body
car. Ideally, you'd also want to swap the K-member
for one from a 5-speed car in order to have the
mounting tabs for a bobble strut, but you can get by
on a solid front mount from polybushings.com.

Ok I finally got the rear cross member replaced. That took longer
than I thought. Went trough an entire two pound spool of wire. The
old wire was really old I bet twenty years old. The new spool welds
soo much better.

I was horrified that I put two pounds of wire into my car. SO much
for keeping my ride light in weight.

I am hoping to have the replacment engine built by the end of March.

Just one question. Actually I am just seeking everyones opinion.
Right now the car is an automatic, an A413. I have the means and
parts to convert it over to a manual. Probably an A525. Should I
make it a manual? The XT has T-tops so structurally it is the weakest
of all of the styles. However a manual might be fun...

Ok I will have to pull the carpet up and take a look back there as for the
heater core it is only about two years old so I do not think that could be it
and since it is a C/S there is no AC to worry about.

I was planing to paint the car in the summer so I think I will deal with rust
then.

Could be the heater core leaking. Other than that, it could be rot

The switch for the rear wiper is in the console near the power window
switches and the rear defrost.

Hi All!
I have 4 full doors for $25 each if you come & get them. They're not
perfect, but if you need a complete door, they will do. I think I have 2
for each side, but I'd have to check. They're packed in the shed & the
weather here isn't the best at the moment, so I can get pics in a few days
if need be. I'll be moving soon & really don't want to haul them with me
due to their size, if I can help it.
I also have other parts too if you need anything from an 89 Daytona CS. The
car was red w/gray interior.
All parts are located in the Harrisburg area.

I have that on my 92 TBI. Get it taken care of. Mine lay dormant for

Could be the heater core leaking. Other than that, it could be rot
behind the passenger side strut tower. G's rust there constantly.

The switch for the rear wiper is in the console near the power window
switches and the rear defrost.

Hello everyone I have a few questions the first one being Rust but not in a
normal place . The rust is forming in the A pillars under the rain gutter seal
??? The car has been parked for about 1.5 years on a gravel drive way this I am
sure helped keep the under side of the car from rusting.

I have owned a number of G rides (eight) three have been 88 cars and I have
never seen rust in this area. If anyone has seen this can you tell me if this
is major issues or nothing major??

Also I have noticed the pass side floor is damp at times there is no leak around
the glass or door anyone know where the water might be coming from?

Has anyone added a rear wiper to there car I pick up the whole rear hatch but
have not had any luck finding the switch or how it is wired up.

It is not that my friends think I am crazy for rebuilding a Laser.
It is that they think I am crazy for fixing up a car with that much
rust and needs that much work. I myself have laid under the car
thinking "why am I fixig this? I should just find one with less
rust." Heck I am even replacing the rear cross-member.

It is just that I love this car. Went I was driving it, it was the
most responsive car I have owned. Not the fastest, but the most
responsive. That was with over 100,000 miles. It will be
interesting to see how well the Laser performs when every thing
is "right" on it.

I am seriously considering attending the Chrysler Nats. in Carlisle
this July even tho it is over 1100 miles away. Maybe I will meet
some of you from is group there.

Anyone know where I can find one of the mopar performance top mount
intercooler setup to go on my 86 Daytona? I'm in the process of
building another engine to go in there sometime this spring & I'd like
to intercool it while I'm at it. Thanks,

Hello everyone;

I am a newbe on the mailing list. I currently have a website to show
my support on Mopar. My website is
http://www.soulserpentmedia.com/DodgeShelby/DodgeShelby.html It's mainly a
huge registry. I want to learn as much as possible about Mopar and I also
want to teach from my peers. I currently own a 1987 Shelby Dodge Charger
GLH-S #324. My site is designed to help me grow as a mopar enthusiast, and
to help others grow. So if everyone could please check out my site and tell
me what you think and if there is anything that needs improvement on it I
would love to hear from all of you.

Thanks;

Nate,

Don't be swayed by the naysayers who think you are crazy. My 86 Laser XT
has been down for over 3 years, and I have completed overhauled and restored it
(it had severe rust, amongst other things). I am willing to bet my rust
problem was worse than yours (I went through 7 wire wheels, and 2 GALLONS of

It has been a VERY long, enduring project, but seeing it come together at
the end makes it all worth it.

There is an SDAC annual event out in KS in 2006, and you can show up either
as a patron or a participator with your car -- it doesn't just apply to
"Shelby" models. More info is available at _www.sdac.org_ (http://www.sdac.org)

Where in Western Iowa are you located? A couple of us
are hoping to get together Friday night in Omaha,
probably just meet up for some grub and drinks.
Otherwise, SDAC-16 is being held this year in Topeka
KS. See www.sdac.org for more info. Just being an
enthusiast is enough, no ownership is required.

Don't feel bad about what your friends say, we all get
the same stuff for ours. I have a beat up 86 Daytona
for a daily driver. She's ugly, but I love her. I
also have an 88 Shelby Z (which I unfortunately
recently wrecked) and an 87 Shelby GLHS in storage.
Get back to me if you're interested in meeting up, or
if you need help on anything!

Later,
Adam

It has been awhile since I posted last. Seems to be little activity
in this group right now.

I might have asked this question quite awhile ago, but...

Are there any Daytona or Dodge related events coming up this next
summer? My Laser XT will be back on the road this spring and I want
to attend some events and meet others who like these cars.

I live in western Iowa so events in the central US would be best.
Also as I do not have a Shelby I don't know if I would be welcome at
a SDAC event.

I will keep people here posted on my progress. Possibly with some
pics. I am replacing nearly all of the drivers side floor pan.
Really bad rust. I also need to replace the engine it went bad two
years ago. My friends think I am crazy for fixing it up, but I
really like the car.

I just put up for auction a set of pumpers up on eBay. Auction number

have any??

I would be looking for the front seats and rear seats. (I would prefer
to just buy the covers and not the actual seats themselves)

thanks
