Greetings All,
I plan to arrive in Clayton, OK between 11 AM and Noon Friday. Will NOT be driving my 4x4 Cherokee due to the long drive (over 1400 miles round) and short trail time opportunities. Will be driving my venerable white Mazda Miata.
I expect to be in Shawnee, OK Thursday eve. Will be staying at A & A Motel Friday & Saturday. A marathon return to New Mexico Sunday is planned.
If I can meet up with any Lone Star Jeep Club (or SWFWDA) folks Friday mid day for an afternoon run, it would be greatly appreciated. Or, someone let me know where/how I can drive up to view/photo some 4-wheeling in my low-rider.
Too, a ride on Saturday would be great, after the SWFWDA biz meeting. (I will pay any state warm body user fees required of me, of course.)

The actual SWFWDA meeting will be at noon either at the OHV park or at a location in town. BRING A CHAIR!!!!! Final determination will be made on Saturday. Three big business items at the meeting are voting on a bylaw amendment, voting on a budget, and installation of officers.
If you're still trying to decide whether or not to make the drive to Bridgeport, Texas, here's a few last minute notes from LSJC:
Late registration fee has been dropped; event fee is just $40.
Saturday night meal has been added but a good head count is needed. Send an email to bkrrice@... immediately with the number of people in your group that will be eating Saturday night.
There is a possibility of a small raffle Saturday night. If it happens, it will be sort of like a door prize thing (you get a ticket with registration; no additional ticket sales).
The 4 Wheel Drive Lines newsletter editor will be present and taking lots of pictures. Come on out...you might make the next cover!
Lone Star Jeep Club has the registration form online. Link to it from their
homepage http://www.lonestarjeepclub.org/ Open to all; spread the word.
Limited to 100 vehicles. Cost is $40, shirts are extra if you want 'em.
And don't forget to check www.swfwda.org for other news updates or event info.

Fall '08 Quarterly Information
Lone Star Jeep Club is still working out the details. I have authorization to
relay the following few tidbits:
Bridgeport, Texas (city-owned park in an old rock quarry with some surrounding
woods/hills). October 18 is the date of the actual quarterly meeting; precise
location TBD. Registration fee will be a max of $40 for the weekend (just enough
to cover actual expenses); attendance will be limited to the first 100
registered vehicles. Pre-registration cut-off will probably be October 8. Check
www.swfwda.org and LSJC's website (link from SW) for more details.
This will be the first unofficial official trail ride at the park. It looks like
it could be another year before they officially open the park to the public.
There are ZERO ammenities at the park right now (LSJC/Brideport Parks will have
porta-johns onsite). Civilized amenities are only a couple of miles away (food,
fuel, etc.).

There aren't any service projects or good deeds your club has done in the past 6
months (or is gearing up for) that you want to share? No pending trail closures
in your nearest National Forest? No politician that's taken a logical position
that supports off roading?
Get your articles to editor@... by Sunday, 6/22/08 please. Long or short,
a paragraph or a multi-pager, a story that was already published in your club's
newsletter; it's all good. Links to online pics or reduced-file-size attached
pics are better for our editor's internet connection at this late date. A CD
copy of pics mailed to him is better (but too late maybe).
If you didn't write it but you know who did, ask them to send it in or ask if
you can send it in for them. 4 Wheel Drive Lines is only as good as YOU make it.
Did you read a good trail/event report on a message forum somewhere about an
event you attended and/or was hosted by one of our member clubs? Send a link to
the editor; you'll get credit for the submission or heads up.
Thanks,
Alan Hatcher

Howdy fellow wheelers.
Who has pictures from the Spring Quarterly in Clayton? If they are already
online in a photo album, send a link to editor@...
How about a story of your adventures at the Spring Quarterly? Or pictures and
stories from any local events your club participated in? We all enjoy reading
about what other clubs are doing (so we can get ideas!) and what better way for
you to tout your accomplishments than if you write it. Don't worry if it's a
story that was already published in your club's newsletter...most of us don't
get get that one in the mail! :o)
Got a local political or environmental issue that the rest of us might want to
know about? Write a little something and send it in.
The deadline will come up fast if we are to get the next issue in the mail prior
to the Summer meeting in Colorado August 2. Don't delay...write today!
Thanks,
Alan Hatcher

Current SOPs are now online, along with the bylaws that have been up there a
while now. See the History/Mission page.
Notes on the home page for recent and coming attractions.
Events page updated.
Please mention at your club meetings that anyone can be added to the email
update; details found at the SWFWDA website.
SWFWDA will decide who hosts the Fall 08 Quarterly meeting at the Spring 08
meeting (May 24). Any member club wishing to submit a proposal for consideration
by the association should email information to president@... no later
than noon May 23 or present in person at the May 24 meeting. At minimum, provide
date(s), location (park?) or event info, and lodging info. October-November
prefered (to keep our quarterlies spread out).
Don't be timid. There is no requirement for a big, fancy event. Any sort of off
road "thing" is fine; just have a place for the association to meet that is at
least semi-comfortable. Chairs and a roof over our heads is kinda nice :o)

Hello Fellow-Wheelers,
The Fort Worth Dallas – Four Wheel Drive (FWD-FWD) Club extends an open
invitation to your club and its members to join us in Clayton, Oklahoma, for our
16th Annual Memorial Day High Country Trail Ride. This year, 2008, we are
hosting the Southwest Four Wheel Drive Association’s Spring Quarterly meeting
Saturday morning (7am).
We encourage everyone who has ever considered a visit to Clayton (but thought
there wouldn’t be anything to match your capabilities and comfort level) to
come on out and let us show you around. This is an excellent opportunity to
learn which properties and trail systems to wheel [plus some new trails are open
this year]. Our experienced trail leaders will guide you through trails
specifically tailored for you and your vehicle’s ability and comfort zone.
The trails range from scenic and mild to extremely wild. There is truly
something for everyone! Guided trail runs begin Friday afternoon and continue
through Sunday. Sunday morning we’ll have an optional M.O.R.E class (More Off
Road Enjoyment). Think of it as Wheelin’ 101.
We know you’ll agree that our Saturday night dinner and raffle are among the
best you’ve seen at any off road event. Our “everyone wins” kids’
raffle puts a smile on every Child’s face. And if you arrive Friday evening,
come on over to the county barn (event HQ) for the Ice Cream Social.
Hurry! Early registration ends May 4th 2008. Visit our website www.fwd-fwd.org
to download the registration packet.
SEE YOU THERE!!!

Event Chairman Leon Duggar is bundling up your raffle tickets and sending them to you this week. You don't have to wait for individuals to buy all the raffle tickets you receive; your club could pay for all tickets you receive now, then keep the dollars as you resell them and throw the rest into the pot as multiple chances for your club to win prizes for it's next event/raffle.
Thanks to all for all your efforts past, present, and future in support of SWFWDA. Raffle proceeds are what will allow Southwest to re-energize in the struggle to keep all offroad venues open.

Things to remember about raffle ticket:
1. Unlike many prize raffles, _YOU_ don't have
to be present to win, but your ticket stub must be present (in the pot/tub/bucket).
2. Ticket stubs must include contact information (don't forget area code) if you will not be present; at least your name if you (or someone proxying for you) will be present (might be a good idea for your proxy to also carry your tickets).
3. Payments by check for tickets should be made payable to Southwest Four Wheel Drive Association.
4. If you do pay up front for all your tickets before reselling, please include a note with payment ackowledging the ticket sequence (numbers) you are paying for.
5. Stubs and money or unsold tickets need to be given to Events Chairman Leon Duggar on the stage prior to the raffle start Saturday evening or mail to the address below. NO CASH IN THE MAIL. Mailed stubs WITH PAYMENT must be received no later than Feb 19, 2008.
