Hey Richeich,
do you still have your SVX, please write me if you do. I want
to talk to you about it. address is rayatkc@... call me at
816-313-1893

thanks,
Ray
As much as I love my SVX, I'm looking to sell it.
You guys know the details. Pictures are in my
briefcase. I've got access to a really good deal on a 98
Legacy GT 5 spd that I "cannot" pass up. I could use the
four doors, and the 5 speed sounds like fun. Anyway,
if anyone is interested, you can e-mail me or post
questions here. (like anyone needs two
93's!)

Rich

(Oh yeah, asking $10,000)
Hey, I think I've figured out a way to tell if
that red SVX you've spotted is a 93 or not, without
memorizing the VIN.

There were no red ones in 92, so
that possibility is out. If it's got any interior
other than the tan leather, it's not a 93. But if it's
a fully loaded red one with tan leather, how do
know if it's a 93, other than the possible Anniversary
sticker? Well, the 93's should be the only red SVX's with
the motorized seatbelts. In 94 they went to dual
airbags and did away with the motorized seatbelts! That
might not be the kind of thing you can spot going down
the road, but if you get enough of a glance at one,
you can tell pretty easily.

Rich (with too
much time to think)
I talked to dad about this tonight, and got a
possible explanation about the difference in numbers
(301/350). He explained that the number he looked at was the
number of US spec cars imported, which was 350.
Apparently, US spec cars also go to the Carribean, Puerto
Rico, Guam, and Hawaii. The cars that are sold in those
areas don't fall under SOA's sales umbrella, and
therefore wouldn't show up in their sales numbers. Do you
all think there could have been 49 of these sold in
these other areas? That seems like a lot to me. I asked
him if some could have gone to Canada, and he said it
was possible, but that's not the normal way things
are done. Anyway, I thought I'd pass along the info.
It seems interesting to me, anyway.

Rich

SOA actually answered when I asked them exactly
how many Anniversary Edition 1993 SVXs were produced.
The answer follows:

Dear Mr. Owens:

I
have received the information that you requested on
the number of '93 SVX 25th Anniversary models sold in
the United States. There were 301 of these vehicles
sold. I hope that this clears up your debate. Best
wishes!!

John J. Mergen
Subaru of America, Inc.

It
only took them about a week to give me a final answer.
Not bad.

END OF LINE
Thanks for the info, i am going to go see if i
can get the new gaskets from the auto store today and
buy some rtv as well. I am pretty comfortable with
changing them out, but i'm not so sure about drilling the
holes. So i think i will just see how it goes without
drilling for now. Thanks again...talk to you guys later

<Are the new gaskets the final cure for the
moisture, or do they let water in, but not as
much?>

New gaskets, properly installed, should stop the
water for a while. The problem is that they are not
very well designed, so they will begin leaking in
time. I used some RTV on the top, changed gaskets, AND
drilled holes in the bottoms. It works pretty good now.
Are the new gaskets the final cure for the
moisture, or do they let water in, but not as
much?

What do you think about just sealing the lenses in
with some RTV or similar silicone sealant?

I'll admit I haven't taken mine apart to look at it,
but I've got moisture a'plenty in all my lights that
I'd like to make disappear as soon as it warms up
around here.

Original Message:

it very difficult? >

Not at all. You just
open your trunk, and unscrew a bunch of 12 mm (or
10 mm) nuts and out the lenses come. You will then
find a TON of built
up dirt that you will want to
remove, so it does not eat into the new
gaskets. I
also added bathtub caulking to my lenses, on the top,
where it
appeared some water could leak in.

Replace the gaskets that go between your lights and the car body. That's how
the water gets in. It will eventually go away after you get rid of the incoming
water problem.
Hi!
I thought I should say a little something
since I joined the club *smile*
I don't own an SVX
but I think it's a beautiful car. I'm Ray's
girlfriend (aka Halistan) I am the one that helps him wash
his car *smile*, helps him a little with his SVX
site, and listens to him go on and on for hours about
how much he loves his baby and how cool she is
*smile* and I have to admit he has a lot to brag about.
The SVX, as you know, is a beautiful car with sooo
many cool features, and I'm so glad he bought it
*smile* I personally just love the windows *smile* I can
never look at another car without thinking "It's no
SVX!" *smile*
So of course joining the club about
the beauty that has replaced me was a MUST
*smile*
Thanks for making this club.
*smile*

TTYL,
Marisa
Hey guys, thanks for the welcome...hate to tell you this but i'm a former Okie,
just graduated from OU, now i am here in KC working for Sprint as a technical
Analyst
Ahhhh. the list grows now.. up to 8 confirmed
owners (myself, shotsky, richeich93, RSVX, barcelonared,
lygeia88, cube47, and halistan) There are 14 members of the
club, but not all have 'fessed up to owning a '93
yet.

I've gotta say 'ouch!' to what happened to your SVX!
Hate to see such misfortune set upon one of our
'babies', but good to hear that it is back in proper shape.
Now...where's that after photo?

I think a guy at work
has a DeLorian that he only brings out in the summer.
Can't wait to take a closer look at it now that it's
kinda like family.

It is true, this is not an
over active forum, but the main board has lots of
action.

-Steve
All right! Not only another 93 SVXer, but an Okie
as well. At least that's what I assume since you
flew out of OKC. Welcome to the little club Ray. We're
glad to have you and your car with us. There is a main
SVX club site, that has a lot of activity and
friendly banter going on. Check it out at
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/subarusvx .

Rich

-PTL-
Hey there true believers :-)

I bought my
car in Big Sur California. I flew out there from OKC
and drove it back. I got it on Jan. 5th,
2000.

It had 120K (highway miles) when I bought it, now it
has 128K

It is in fantastic condition. The
previous owner (who bought it new) kept it in great shape.

Problems...well...just one. I wrecked it on Jan 23rd. Although, the lady
who caused the wreck, insurance company fixed it. The
front end got bashed up but no real damage was done. I
have it back and it drives and looks wonderful. The
dealership did a great job on it.

I definitely think
it will be a collectors item in the future. A car
that gets this much attention has to become a
collectors item.

I love this car. It is great having
the older brother of the famous Delorian. A few weeks
ago my girlfriend saw a Delorian. I parked my 93 svx
next to it and compared the two. The likeness is
remarkable. The SVX is just larger and more rounded. Even the
interior is similar. I have always loved the Delorians
unique style...now i have an upgraded and newer model
Delorian *grin*
I've used the Zymol on mine, and it helped for a
while. The fade just comes back, however. I plan to
repaint the whole car this summer. I will be sure to tell
them to put the extra coats of sealer, paint and
clearcoat on those plastic parts so the paint will be
sealed in place.
Actually, mine look horrible!! Its almost like another shade of red!!! and the
Plastic pieces that used to hold the SVX emblem below the rear side stationary
windows are oxidized too!!
