Do any of you have a set of STI wheels (preferable gold but silver acceptable)
that you would be willing to sell at a reasonable price? I need a set for my
winter tires.

Thanks for the info all I can get helps, I know I actually felt that
in the tires, I even said to myself the car is not even lower how
come I could feel everything in the ground. I will keep everyone
informed when the time comes that I've decided to lower it a bit.
thanks alot.

raise your 0-60 times since they are slightly taller. That's the

yeah just bought a 2002 impreza, blue with 18 glod rima and tein
lowering springs with aem cold air intake. its clean and nice ride.
foud a good prized body kit for it and a lot of tuner stuff to go a
long with my project. As soon as all is done with post pic of the
finished model. peace
hey if you like all kind of tuners cars then check out my group called
P3powerperformancepride it in custom cars not only do i have aswome
pic but some really good links that will help you stay in tune with
your car peace jay out
For Winter Tires do the Michelin Pilot AS. Excellent snow and wet traction. It
is a little softer than the stock tire so you get a little better ride quality
at the sacrifice of a tad of handling. Overall an excellent tire but I am
putting the stock ones back on after the last snow. You can buy them through
Subaru cheaper than you can get them straight from Tire Rack but watch out for
the $80 mounting charge and the dealer shop supply charges. my cost was just
under $800.
As far as insurance goes the Sti is now a 26. Subaru has a special deal with
Liberty Mutual. With my STi and 2002 Aztec my monthly payments dropped from $169
per month at Nationwide to $101 per month with Liberty. I did bump up the
deductibles but it did not effect it that much. A ton of savings none the less.
Good luck.

I've put about 5k miles on my 2005 Wagon since I bought it in October
and I love it but I do have two complaints.
The stock tires suck in the snow. (I got Dunlop M3s on steel wheels
from Tire Rack for under $700 delivered and they are great)
The insurance turned out to be really high on all Imprezas. For 2002
and 2003, it was a symbol 17. (not too bad) For 2004, it was a 19.
(getting pretty bad) For 2005, it is a 23! (the highest you can be
is a 27; give me a break) The worst part is my insurance agent
quoted me a symbol 17. That was a nasty $400/yr. surprize when the
increase became known. Make sure when you get quotes that they are
for a 2005. (both symbol and rate) The lowest Impreza now is a
symbol 19. This is going to cost Subaru a lot of sales.

I want to make sure the fans are working on my car. The A/C
compressor makes them both come on but no amount of idling would make
the cooling fan come on. (it's only in the high 30s here) Guess I
will have to actually drive it to make the fan come on. Does this
fan behavior sound correct?
It is an electronic sound and my first thought was that it had
something to do with the chirping speaker for the subaru alarm but
cycling the alarm didn't fix it. A drive around the block did. I
also suspected any relays/solenoids that may exist for the fans so I
tried to get them to come on today. The A/C compressor makes them
both come on but no amount of idling would make the cooling fan come
on. (it's only in the high 30s here) Guess I will have to actually
drive it to make the fan come on. I just want to make sure it
actually works.

I had a high-pitched tone coming from my '04 us spec STI once after driving
for a while.
It was raining heavily, and looking under the hood it sounded like it was
coming from the front of the engine bay, on the right side. ( the core
support near the air intake side) possibly dampness affecting the
electronics of the alarm horn, or something?
I restarted the car and pulled out of and back into the garage, and it
seemed to go away.

Greetings all,
I'm thinking of starting to do some mods with my car but I can't seem
to put my finger on a particular piece of information: what's the
diameter of the stock exhaust system? I want to do a stage 1 type set
of mods but I need the info to know what to get regarding the exhaust.
Thanks,

John,
A set of pulleys is probably the first thing I will do. After that I've been
thinking about a cold air intake. I've also been looking into larger and
possibly front mounted intercoolers. What do you know of these? The only problem
with trying to learn about the utility of such products is that you mainly find
information about them on sites that are selling them - not proof of dishonesty,
but at least possible bias.
Does anyone know of a good site for unbiased information on the different mods
out there?
Thanks,
Bob

John,
Well, I certainly have noticed that I'm changing gears quickly as I get going.
I'm sure this is very important if you want to be able to keep within a
relatively small RPM range as you zip around corners but as I don't compete I
sort of wish the gearing was a little bit more spread out through the first four
gears.
As my more competitive years are a little behind me I'm a little more interested
in tweaking the most power I can so as to still have the fun but also with an
eye to the fact that a car with more power uses less gas at a given speed than
it did with less power.
I hear that replacing the pulleys with either underdrive pulleys or even just
equal sized but lighter pulleys can be rather helpfull.

You'll notice a big rev drop going up into 5th. Then 5 to 6th seems
close spaced again. The shorter JDM gearing lets you use 6th more
often at legal speeds. Our STi is so high geared in 5 and 6th that the
theoretical tops are like 143 and 174 respectively! I've seen a price
for the JDM 5 & 6th set like $1200 and requires skilled install.

Cool Than, the stock intake silencer is a piece of
plastic that lives in your front right fender
outside(passenger side) it is junk you remove it and
good free air.Go to scoobymods.com/forms there is a
detailed outline on how to remove it.It took me 30 min
solo. Search Intake Silencer Removal AKA Snorkus Is it
free power gains???? but it sounds great, turbo and
BOV sounds wicked. Plus put a KN panel in. More air
more power.-For power issues complete Turbo exhaust
Decat if you can, header there'er good on the STi's.

Thanks for the input. I'm mainly looking to deal with power issues for now. I'll
look into the silencer and filter issues - what's the deal with the intake
silencer anyway?

the intake silencer in the right front fender and put a KN panel
filter in.

John,
A snow tire package is at the top of my list but here in southern NY it's not up
for debate. I'll look into the inlet to see what I can learn. What do you mean
about the gear ratios? What is JDM ratios?
Thanks,
Robert

My friend who tunes exotic cars made up a street legal exhaust for a US
04 STi. He found the most obvious improvement over the factory system
to be at the inlet to the pre-cat just after the turbo flange. This
may be different on an 05 but the turbo outflow is really restricted on
the 04. Prodrive makes good exhaust parts but they may do away with
pre -cat and not be for street use.
My 04 is stock but my first mods would be exhaust or change the 5& 6th
gear set to JDM ratios. Probably wheels and snows will get first
priority :~))
