The timing belt is an extremely important piece of maintenance. If I remember correctly it's supposed to be replaced between 60K and 80K. I wouldn't skip this....

The older Imprezas are notorious for this problem. Many people were replacing failed bearings every 15-20K miles. I think the fix was to use legacy bearings...
