Replacing a clutch isn't hard. But there are a a lot of steps. I haven't done a subaru so can't comment on particulars. I don't see the value of the dealer...

The head gasket issue is in the 2.5l engine, isn't it? I believe the 2000 OBS is still the 2.2l. Underwhelming, but near bullet proof engine....
