I own a 2000 Legacy Wagon and would like to avoid going to my very expensive
dealer. I
need to change the headlight bulb only on passenger side. The high beams work
and I don't
think it's the fuse. How easy is it to do? Does anyone have a clear simple set
of step by step
instructions? Thanks!
It isn't alway low on power when you *start*... excelerate. But it is
sometimes... and at unpredictable times. i'll be just driving along, and need a
little extra power (going up a hill or something) and it's not there.
Would it really be ok to use a *used* turbo?
And, if so, were would you (we) look to find them?
The Subaru dealer says new ones are $1,100.+... but it often seems as if they
really don't *want* us to keep our old car. They've actually told us to *junk*
it a couple of times.

ps... thanks for your response, it seems as if this group is now mostly for
*spammers*.

We have a little 1987 Subaru *turbo* wagon.
It has recently started *smoking*... irregularly.
A friend of ours, who is a very good *all around* mechanic... and who rebuilds
engines (for the military) looked at the car, and *thinks* that it is the
*turbo* (a very expensive part) that has gone bad... although he is quick to
point out he isn't sure.
He had the engine *apart* last year to check the heads (the car went through a
lot of water and we took it in to the local Subaru dealer who thought one... or
both of them was probably cracked... neither was)... and replaced a gasket that
was the problem.
Anyone with any knowledge, thoughts, ideas about smoking cars and turbos?
---thanks in advance for any help, linda
ps... any ideas of what's the best way to get the lowest price on a turbo?

spring compressor is a must as well as realignment after you have changed them.
This is NOT the same thing as changing a shock. The biggest hazard in changing
them is the springs If you dont have a clue about what your doing its better to
have someone with the equipment to the job.

Replace ALL the rubber brake lines. If you look closely at them you will
probably see some swelling etc going on. Also, do a reset on the ABS if it has
one. If this does not cure the problem, the master cylinder should be checked
again.

Curcit City and Best Buy are just installers and dont know or want to
troubleshoot a wiring or radio problem. They wnat to sell and install new not
fix your old OEM equipment. Your problems are most likely within the radio/CD
players and not the wiring harness. The new equipment does not have the same
harnesses so they cannot be used.

Also im still lookin for a governer gear shaft.. if anyone knows where
i can buy one for my 86 GL-10 turbo Automatic, please email me
Has anyone played with hardwiring an ipod to the radio? Is there a CD
changer plug assembly that might be used? The wireless FM transmitter
doesn't work worth beans (probably becuase the antenna is in the rear).
Wo makes the standard radio with 6 CD changer that comes with the
outback?
Thought Id share something with ya'll. Great fun and it actually works.

thanks . the fluid and filter are new, and all the lines are on tight,
so i guess ill take a look at that govener shaft this week. Anyone
know where to get a good used part like that junkyards round here dont
carry one. Also subiegt94, can you ask that ultimate board how one
would do a auto to manule trans swap. It sounds liek a good summer
project if i had a doner car by then. Are there any documented
procedures that i could use as a guide?

Harry Fong,
I had that happen to my 1976 Automatic DL. While under warranty in 1978
with 40000 miles. The reduction shaft in the transmission is broke. The
car like said can be manually shifted 1st to 2nd and reverse. The dealer
let me take it home until he got the part. Returned a week later and the
differential was also damaged, possibly driving in 2nd gear at too high a
speed 40MPH or so. Everything repaired under warranty 30 days or so
later. Good thing that my 1968 Chevy Nova was running well.

i posted your question at U.S.M.B (ultimate subaru message board)an so
far this is the first responce i got-
[it's an automatic is your problem not kidding
the 3 spd auto stinks and they suffer from a wide band of problems if
it was me i would swap in a 5spd d/r
it will make it faster and they have much fewer problems plus way
better gas milage]

Thanks. I was able to figure it out. I had troulble finding the
little strap to release the seat. Yes, reading the manual does help.
I had only read the first page and failed to go to the next page
which is very complete. I'm going to try to remove the four screws
which hold the bench seat to the hinge. It appears that the hinge
plays a role in holding the backrest of the folded seat in the proper
position and therefore needs to remain in place.

yup i had to do that, except i lifted engine from below an place some
wood in to support it.
Is it possible to remove the lower section of the rear seat in an
Outback? When folded down the result is not a flat surface. I need
every bit of space to carry boxes in the rear. Will not need to carry
passengers. Any ideas?
Bob
I cannot believe it. I went to change the oil pan, which has a minute
hole in it and I found that I have to raise the engine by 2 inches to
do it!!!
So I guess that means loosen the engine mountings, getting a hoist and
raising it up?
Has anyone else faces this issue?

Allthough my primary reason to read Subaru yahoogroups is to learn or
share maintenance help on my two Subs 93 Legacy and 03 Baja, I'm
willing to make a few statements on religious feuding in an
automobile web site.
I do have an English version of the Koran ( a document which was/is
not allowed/valid to be translated possibly only valid in Arabic) and
the King James version of the Bible. If you ever get to read the
Koran you will see a document narrated by Mohammad over few years
very dedicated to defining a social structure on how people should
live in addition to finding salvation for your soul. The Christian
Bible is very different a series of testaments with many differnt
messages over many centuries narrated by several prophets also
defining how to find salvation for your soul. Acknowledging and
finding salvation for your soul and belief in God may be the only
truth that these two religions share.
No one reading this site will be persuaded or convinced from any
religious statement delivered how ever well intentioned.
Evangalization Christian/Moslem/Bahai/Jewish/Hindu/others has its
place and time and it has little to do with Subaru up keep or
performance.
Do the writers of religious messages with opposite religious views
actualy own Subs? And isn't the Sub the only thing they may have in
common. Enough said, hopefully non-Sub topics will not terminate this
