Andy, IF indeed you have an alternator, you have blown out a few diodes in the rectifier. If the car has an alternator, then it should be NEGATIVE ground....

Ian, The RC40 will fit, but you need to rotate it through 90° so that it's 5" high and 3" wide. That way it fits nicely between the spring and the fuel tank....
