Hello. Just joined Socalvettes and saw your e-mail queries.

1 Join up with sanfranciscocorvetteclub in the Yahoogroups. I just
did, if you're from NorCal.

2 For headers, go for Hedman Hedders as they have the smog tubes for
hookup, even though the 1975 is Calif smog exempt now, you might
still want to do that. I have a set for my 1976.

They also sell standard headers without tubes if you want that, but
regardless, the Hedman ones are very heavy duty compared to others.
They were the company that invented headers. Best price is thru Jegs
catalog www.jegs.com or the Summit Racing catalog.

3 The answer with the 2 cats for true dual exhaust by the other guy
is correct. Best price is through Corvette Central catalog over all
the others, as they throw in the mufflers free and all the other
catalogs charge the same price or more, with mufflers extra. Or have
it welded locally at a shop, but make sure the guy knows corvettes,
as most shops don't have a clue how to bend the pipes correctly
around the spare tire area, both the lift and the angle, and usually
get it wrong. Check if they do C-3 corvettes and see the work first.

4 Many non-computer, physical attendance clubs in NorCal. I am just
beginning to get bolted into all of them, as I needed to do a lot of
summer car work before socializing. Now I am ready to jump in. More
heavily represented in the San Jose area, than the North Bay, but
there are a bunch of them out there. I just missed one in San Jose
that was at a Hamburger stand in late August and 50 cars showed up.
This I know because I bought wheels from one of the guys that
attended and I was dealing with after-work traffic from Walnut Creek
to San Jose and missed an opportunity.

Best regards, Jim.

I drive a stock '74 350 almost daily. I have seen ads about the new
HEI distributor conversion that require no more points and installs
easily.

What is the skinny on the installation, performance and durability of
the new wonder? Eckler has this part marked down from $500 to $1.79.
It sounds too good to be true.

Saw the link for this club on a website, so I thought I would stop
and check it out.

Well, first I am the proud owner of a biege/bronze 1981 Corvette. I
have been rebuilding my car for almost 2 years now. And when I say
rebuild, I dont mean restore. I am not much on restoring classics
(no offense anyone). Rather, I like to improve on a classic
design. So far, so good.

I noticed by some of the pictures that some people have done one of
the modifications I would like to do: install an LT1 engine. Any
advice on how this worked out? Any tips?

Anyways, hello all. Look forward to yapping at you all.

The easiest thing would be to get 2 cats and make it a true dual
exhaust. But if you are in CA, you cannot do this because it changes
the backpressure and factory exhaust configuration which is against
smog laws.
Here are ides if you are going to use long-tube headers. If it is a
manual car, it would be fairly easy to run a pipe under the car to
the passenger side. Now if it is Auto, i don't know how this will be
done easily.
The best thing to do is find short tube headers from something like a
1982 Corvette. Then they will bolt right up and you won't have to
worry about the clearance or routing. And unless I remember wrong, a
3" pipe will fit snugly in the crossmember to eliminate the need for
a dual exhaust. Good luck.

Question on Headers and exhaust systems. Adding headers to a 75
corvette it has the y pipe to go into one catalytic converter. Can
you add a second catalytic converter to make it true dual exhaust
and if not how and where do you do the new y?

Check and see if the fault is in the HVAC controller or a blown fuse
in the fuse panel at the end of the dash.

To enter HVAC self-diagnostics, press and hold the fan up and down
buttons at the same time for about 5 seconds. HVAC display will show -
00. Press fan AUTO button. LCD will show fault codes stored in the
system. Let me know what they are.

In diagnostic mode, checking several different system parameters
(circuits or systems) is possible. This is done by pressing either
the fan up or down buttons. Once the parameter is chosen, press fan
AUTO button. LCD will display a diagnostic value.

You may need a scan tool to help on this one for the cruise control.

Good luck and keep me posted.

I don't know how to replace one. My car is a 73 vert. The last year
of removable rear window was 72. Find a local glass company to do the
work.

Thanks -- I had myu smog pump rebuilt and it turns smoothly now. Any
suggestions on having a rear window resealed? If I remember
correctly, the '73 design has a nice little removable rear window.
My '74 is not removable, but requires a typical ribbon seal. I do
not know of any good local body shops.

I recommend changing just the mufflers. Then buy your flowmasters and
have them put on. Don't worry about a cat-back.

change the exhaust system and add a high performance computer chip.

I would not put dual quads on unless you are
going to do the cam and the cylinder heads for sure. A
single holley 750 (3310 model) will work great. Dual
quads will only suck gas and look cool. Not much more
for the HP arena.<br>You are pulling the intake,
which is 1/4 the battle of the cam replacement. Pull
the oil pan, front cover, radiator, condenser, hood
and you are there. Plus you know it won't leak oil
since you are touching every seal on the engine. <br>I
think a cam, intake and carb are what you are looking
for. <br>Flowmasters are cool, and sound great but
consider putting the big ones (big block mufflers) under
the rear and eliminating the spare tire. You can fit
dual 3" pipes under the car, but get rid of the
flanges between the headers and pipes, and switch to slip
in with exhaust sleeves (like semi trucks) to
eliminate catching them on speed bumps.<br>I personally on
my 350 have 2 1/2" pipes with Ultra Flow polished
stainless mufflers. They look great from behind.

thanks vettevert for the info regarding more
horsepower. is there a more simpler way then to replace the
cam? i figured i would have to replace the intake. i
was going to replace it with a duel quad intake and
use 2-4bbl hollies. what would that do in terms of
additional hp? for exhaust, i was thinking of duel flo
masters. any thoughts?

Change the camshaft, intake manifold, exhaust,
recurve the distributor and maybe change the Quadrajet to
a Holley. My buddy was in the same situation, but
he bought the car new in 74. What he did was buy and
LS6 aluminum head 454 with a 3x2 intake manifold and
carb setup for a 67 427. It flys with 13.5:1
compression.

The gas is not supposed to be a steady stream.
The injectors pulse and make a clicking sound. Check
timing, TPS (throttle position sensor) not adjusted
properly, MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
defective, faulty ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor.
Give me more symptoms. When does it do the rough
running. What temperature is the engine, what temperature
is it outside. Did you change the fuel filter?

you can see the gass but it sputters out.not in a

nothing but code 12. so what could make it run bad?

Rough could be a number of things. Timing, TPS
(throttle position sensor) not adjusted properly or
defective, fuel pump going bad, MAP (manifold absolute
pressure) sensor defective, faulty plus, cap, rotor, wires,
faulty ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor. If the
check engine light is on, there is a DTC (diagnostic
trouble code) set. You will have to find out what is
going on. Give me more symptoms and things you have
done to the car. As far as the headlights, they are
vacuum operated and first thing is to check routing. So
get a book for this car before anything. I don't
recommend Haynes or Chilton, I would get a factory set from
ecklers or even GM. Talk to the dealer. well worth it if
you plan on owning this car for any length of
time.<br><br>Let me know more-<br>Demian Hurst
