Hello SEVA folks:
Well the July 14th meeting was warm, sunny, and over $300,000 worth of
Electric Cars in the parking lot AGAIN !! One small hitch… The BIG
Church Meeting room, was still under repair and clean up from their fire
and smoke damage back in June just prior to our June meeting. But as
the body count was just over 40 this evening, we were able to use the
meeting room in the Mosaic Coffee House.
We started off with Representative Fred Jarrett, who is running for King
County Executive in the August primaries. We were interested to hear
from him for he was instrumental in passing the State legislation on
electric cars and EV charging that Jeff Finn and others had worked on.
We regret having to keep his presentation short, for as you may
remember, the Coffee House closes at 9 pm, not like our meeting room up
stairs where we often hang out till after 10 pm.
Stephen Johnsen and I showed our pictures from Gasless on Greenwood 09,
the Alaska-Yukon Event, and from Stephen’s trip to California to talk
with Eberhardt, one of the founders of TESLA, who is working on a set of
automated charging plugs for Tesla’s. They will be able to plug into
various voltages and current capabilities, and self adjust. Very
handy. Stephen and James Morrison may work on marketing such items.
But the REAL FUN was that Tesla folks gave Stephen and James a Roadster,
to drive for an hour ( in any way and any direction they chose.) Rumor
has it that they REALLY gave it a Test to Remember.
Larry Gales gave an interesting talk on comparing a normal family, home,
car… with an efficient “net zero” energy home, and car.. Even though
the up front cost might be higher, the life long expense could be HALF
or less. He has put all the facts and figures on our SEVA Forum.

An interesting READ we should all be familiar with…
Larry ? from Shoreline Solar came by with post cards and Posters for
their 18th Annual SOLARFEST. SEVA members with cars to show are
encouraged to attend. They have room for as many as we can muster.
Also there will be some EV Charging. You can come early and leave
early. I encourage you all to try and attend.
For more information see their web site at: www.ShorelineSolar.org
Don “Father Time” Crabtree spoke about an interesting KosTov motor
failure. Don said that massive plasma ball ruined the inside of the
motor. I guess that makes Don’s NEW NEK NAME “PlasmaFather” I’m sure
Plasmaboy Wayland won’t mind. The FIX however was even more bizarre.
Don drove down to Jim Husted’s digs in Oregon (
http://www.hitorqueelectric.com//index.htm ) There the EV Motor genius
put together the Case and Field of the KosTov., The armature of an 8”
ADC, the End Plate of an 9” ADC and fan… I jokingly said that if Jim
and Don went to the big EV Show in the sky, and some one came across
this strange composite motor, they would think it Came from MARS !!
With any luck, Don will have the motor in his Ride, and will show up at
the Wayland Invitational. He also reminded all of us of what a GREAT
EV-ent this is going to be, starting with visiting with John and the
Wayland Juice Bar Friday afternoon…all the way to Sunday morning
Breakfast. Any one who can should try and attend.
Steve Lough reminded folks that he is willing to SPLIT the cost of his
Hotel Room close to the track.
Call him if you are interested. ( 206 524 1351 ) No smoking or snoring
please…
See you all in Portland on the 24th !!!
I think that is about IT for this months meeting. The folks at the
Church are confident that our meeting space will be back up and
available by the August 11th meeting. But THIS time I will check in
Advance.
And again, as always, feel free to go to the SEVA Web Site and Add,
Edit, etc. as you see fit, if I have left something important out. SSL
