Well not a tremendous amount but enough to say it
was worth doing. And it sounds great, that growl at
around 3 to 4000 rpms is so sweet. It appears that I
have a quicker pickup , but it could all be in my
head. But its a mod I highly recommend none the less.

That's cool that you were able to do it without
taking out the battery. I would like to put it there so
the car would be able to get the air quicker than it
would if I had to have a long pipe running up to the
front of the car.

Did you notice an increase in
power after you installed the CAI?

Hey I did the CAI intake in my 87 max and I
didn't take out the battery. Everyone told me it
couldn't be done. So I did it :) N e wayz I will post the
pics. And the cool thing about it, only cost me like 30
bucks. Bought the cone filter on ebay and 3 inch sewer
pipe for Rv's at walmart and some liquid nails, with a
lil custom adapter thankz to Nismo87 and about 30
minutes and wala. CAI

I don't think the Air Scoop aka Induction is
worth the cost or the trouble if that's the only mod
you're doing to your car.

However, I think a
1993 Ford Mustang Cobra Air Scoop (located on hood)
will work out for our cars with some modifications.
But the cost is ridiculous. You'd need a custom hood,
custom ram, custom piping/wiring/set-up. Might as well
get a turbo and custom intercooler for the same
cost.

CAI is the way to go.

-A

I still have the stock struts on my car. They are
not the adjustable ones though. I'm going to have my
suspension completely overhauled next year. I'll probably go
with the KYB shocks and struts, and either a set of
Eibach, Intrax, or ST lowering springs. I am kind of
worried about scrapping my car, but the springs should be
a lot stiffer than stock ones, so hopefully it
won't be a problem. I just love the look and handling
of a lowered car.

Yeah, I got banned from that club too. That is
total bullsh*t since we contributed so much to that
club and that dude has to be an immature, dork ass
loser. Just because he couldn't afford to mod his car
and he's driving around a piece of sh*t Explorer, he
has to dis everyone who customizes their car.

I hope everyone else that is interested in modding

I'd hate to see people support a club run by a piece

I was thinking about making either a ram air
induction system or a cold air intake for my car. I don't
want to take out my battery though, so I'm going to
see if I can run the intake up to the front of the
car. I already know how to do the CAI, I'll just have
to get the parts and make sure everything fits. I'm
not really sure how to do the ram air. Does anyone
have a car with ram air or know anything about how
this setup works?
What are the differences between
a regular CAI and the Ram Air? I really want to put
in the ram air system if I can, since it'll also be
a cold air intake as well.

You probably just bought the original hydraulic
shocks from Nissan. Original is up there, $500-600 a
piece (not including installation). Yes, it does
suck.

You should have gone with KYB Gas shocks, their top
of the line is around $80-90 each. They stiffen up
the ride vs. original quite a bit (I like it that
way).

Also, depending on your mileage, you might need to
replace the factory springs as well. Once you hit over
150,000, they usually are not good anymore (unless you
drive in flat country all time with no speed

I just had mine replaced. I don't know the brand,
but they were $600 a piece! I have the adjustable
shocks for my 87. But I can tell you they aren't that
great. Every dip in the road hits HARD. I am curious to
know if I had some other alternatives with the
adjustable system. I'd like to know what other people think
of this shock system.

Just wondering what everybody is using for
struts. The fact adj. are too expensive so I opted to use
Gabriel VST's. The car suspension is really soft now. I
have tried to find other struts and it seems that
everybody is discontinuing them for our cars. I think KYB
is the only maker of premium struts for them now.
Does anybody have any experience with KYB's with the
fact springs? I'd rather not lower the
car.

Thanks!

If we get enough members that have pictures of
their rides, I was thinking of doing a car of the
month, similar to what http://www.maxima.org has. I
would just put a picture of their car on the home page
of this club and they could post a message that
describes a little bit about their car, what mods they
have, and what they plan on doing in the
future.

By the way, for anyone who is new to the club, the
white Maxima in the picture on the home page belongs to
Avalon42. You can see more pictures of his car under the
album White Knight.

Eibach doesn't make lowering springs for our cars
anymore, but you can still find some left over. I think
http://www.stillen.com still has a
few sets left. Also, Intrax makes a
set of lowering springs for the 2gen Maxima's,
http://www.intraxsuspension.com I'm pretty sure that they lower
the car more than
the Eibach's do, but the Eibach's are probably a
little better.

Also, I think that you have to
change the struts when you put a set of lowering springs
on. You might as well get a new set of dampers while
your at it too. I don't know about all of the other
parts that you might have to change or need though. I'm
getting my suspension overhauled next year and I'll
probably go with the Eibachs if they still have them,
otherwise I might go with the Intrax.

Your car is
looking really good by the way, it's in really nice
shape. The wheels definitely add a nice touch to the
car. As for your next appearance mod, you should go
with the Kaminari body kit.

Hey, we're glad to have you here. It definitely
is hard to find parts for these older 2nd Gen
Maximas. We'll try and post as many links as possible. I'm
also considering in making a website if I ever get
some free time, and putting all of the information
that I can find about 2nd gen Maximas on it. If you
have any questions about how to fix something or you
need a specific part, let us know and we'll try our
best to help out.

P.S. Nice profile by the way.

GTS also makes headlight covers for our cars,
http://www.gtstyling.com I got
GTS headlight covers for my Cavalier and
they wrapped the whole way around to cover the
sidemarkers, so I'm assuming that the ones for the Maxima will
too.

Bad news is that they don't offer them
for the 85-86's and they don't have tailight covers
either.

I was thinking about using the mask kit and making
two round headlights on each headlight cover. I want
to use the tint spray to smoke out my tailights, if
I can find the spray. I'm just going to take off
the tailight and paint it while it's off and then put
it back on once it's dry. Since no one offers
tailight blackouts or clear lenses, it seems that it's the
only custom way to go.

Also, I'm going to go
with a custom mesh grill and when I get the Kaminari
ground effects kit, I'm going to put mesh in the bottom
openings too.

This message goes out to all of those who
received invitations to this club. If you received an
invitation, it's because you belonged to the other Second
Generation Maxima Club.

This club was founded by
former members of that club. Less than a week ago, the
founder of that club decided to post some very harsh
messages to those who enjoy modifying and customizing
their Maximas. In addition to that, he threatened to
delete members' pictures if they didn't follow HIS
rules.

Some of us responded to his messages in
order to defend ourselves. We spend a lot of time,
money, and effort on our Maximas, and we were very upset
and angry that the founder of the club would cut into
us, someone who doesn't even own a Maxima and hasn't
participated in the club in over a year.

The responses
to his harsh comments were deleted by him and we
were banished from the club, even though we have put a
lot of effort in helping out other members of that
club.

Therefore, we started this club as a continuation of the
previous Second Generation Maxima Club. If you are still
interested in 2Gen Maximas, we welcome you to join us. You
have my personal guarantee that you will never be
critisized for what you do to your Maxima and I will never
threatened to delete your pictures or your comments, and I
certainly won't banish you from the club.

Thank

True. I'm actually very fond of the gray
interior, but my parents opted for the tan at the time
(1988).

I saw one 87 Maxima down in Santa Ana, CA. Had
nasty white and red leather, outside was the beige

I deleted the default album, so you guys can make
your own albums for your car. I'm not going to be a
d*ck like the other guy. Feel free to post as many
pictures as you please. I'm going to post some pics of my
car pretty soon, I want to wait till autumn to get a
nice background.

Also, bashing other people's
Maxima's, like the founder of the other club did, will not
be tolerated. Many people, myself included, put a
lot of time, money, and effort into their cars, and
they take a lot of pride in how the modify their cars.
Remember the old saying, if you have nothing nice to say,
don't say anything at all. Constructive critisism is
certainly acceptable, since it helps everyone improve their
cars, just as long as it isn't derogatory.

Another thing, I'll be supporting this club a lot, unlike
the founder of the other club. If for some reason,
like my Maxima gets totalled and I'm unable to get
another one, I'll hand over the foundership to someone
who is very enthusiastic and actually owns a 2 gen
Maxima. I highly doubt this will be a problem as I plan
to keep my Maxima for life, and it's in great
running condition with only 95K miles on it.

Well, that's about all I have to say, if you have any
comments, questions, or suggestions, feel free to
post.

Later.
