Hi all just wanted to announce 2 up coming events in april. The 1st event is
scooter commuter day. The 2nd is a rally to help support SMF Cycles in front of
the newnan board to let them know scooters are wanted and needed. So here are
the details:
Scooter Commuter Day '09 is on for April 1st.
Adam at Eco Moto (corner of 7th & W. Peachtree) will have coffee and donuts for
us and we'll leave from there and ride together to Turner Field.
We will be staging at the Gold Lot at Turner Field at 9am, then riding over to
Washington St. for a press conference (police escorted, of course).
We're rallying in support of SMF Cycles (a scooter store in Newnan, GA) on
Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
Here's the story:
We've just gotten word that SMF Motorcycles, a scooter store in Newnan, GA going
in front of Newnan's Zoning board to defend their occupancy of their new scooter
store. After getting the green light from the zoning department for occupancy,
SMF began remodeling of an awesome old-school gas station for a new scooter
store. However, just before they opened their doors, they received a notice from
Newnan saying that they could not occupy the building due to an oversight in the
legal definition of a scooter.
Matt Wilson in Atlanta has put together a ride starting in atlanta. If you want
to join in Atlanta and ride to Newnan or if you just want to meet us in Newnan
that would be great too we need as may scooter peeps as we can get.
We will meet up at 7:30AM at Aurora Coffee in L5P. Coffee/drinks on the house
provided by the 22nd Scooter Brigade that morning as we head out for a good,
beautiful ride to Newnan, GA (about 50 miles one way). We have rest stops
planned, so our scoots won't overheat on us, and we'll have a recovery vehicle
available on call. We should arrive in Newnan, GA at around 9:30. SMF goes
before the board at 10AM. After the board, we'll stop to eat one of Newnan's
local restaurants, and then make the ride back. Should have you home before
traffic hits in ATL.
Just remember, this is an opportunity to help shape how GA law is interpreted
for scooters. These laws affect you on a daily basis. A few hours missed, or a
"sick" day would be well worth having the opportunity to NOT be treated as FULL
Motorcycles (like licenses and tags!)
Have fun, scoot safe and scoot smart.
