I was just sitting here wondering? were does everyone on this group go
for the winter?
Do you have a special place that you go every year? or do you pick
differant places?
could you tell us why you pick the places you pick? and what do you do
when you are there?

Hi Lilli, Sharon, Richard and other group members,
Thanks for the welcome. I was born in Forest Grove, Oregon 67 years
ago. I grew up in Redmond and have fond memories of enjoying
fishing, hunting and camping in Oregon. Not so much fun was when the
water pipes would freeze but I liked to ice skate and ski (until I
broke a leg at age 20). I joined the U.S. Navy after high school and
have lived in California since. I now have a home near Lake Tahoe
(the best investment I ever made). I am thinking of selling my home
next year (before the housing bubble bursts) getting an RV and
seeing some of the USA that I haven't seen before.
I don't think I will be a fulltimer though because I'm too
interested in computers and the internet and although it is
possible, it is too expensive for my taste (getting a Class A with a
generator and an uplink satellite dish and $90 a month for an ISP)
or parking the rig somewhere with a full hookup. When in the RV, I
will probably be boondocking. So I will need a homebase. I've been
checking out real estate and think that La Pine might be a good
spot. It's not too far from Bend and near hunting and fishing spots
and real estate is cheap (compared to California). If anyone in the
group has any information (pluses or minuses) on La Pine, I would
like to hear them. I'm also interested in hearing about campgrounds
and RV friendly towns. I read in the New York Times recently that
Hermiston (of all places) has installed a free wireless broadband
network. Does Bend or Redmond have anything like that?
I must confess that I haven't had a chance yet to read all the
archived posts in this group or the files and photo section yet but
I plan to. I'm mainly a lurker but when I read a post and think I
can contribute something, I will.
Thanks,
Gary
Welcome Mike and Gary, and anyone else that is new i missed. Will
be anxious to hear some of the places you have visited and enjoyed.
We are still in Bend for another two weeks then heading hopefully to
Glacier Park for a week then work our way through washington and
back to seaside oregon.

HI Jaynee,
Ok well i am going to take a bit of time here and see if we can't
get some answers to your questions.
First off how big is your rig that you have now? we have a 23ft
motor home so if we went full timing that is never going to be big
enough for us and 10 cats, so your talking 3 people, any pets? and
were are you planning on going? remember that you can't fill the 5th
wheele up with unnessary things, or a motor home, only things that
you will be using, meaning grandmas antiques can't go with you..
As for a motor home versus a 5th wheele, well i know we also have a
30 ft 5th wheele that we hate, bought it and used it twice and then
parked it, nice for the extra tow but not worth it to us when we
couldn't go were we wanted too in something that big, we like to go
in remote places and rememeber also some places you can't take
something too big in, all of this has to be something to consider,
if you already like the pulling part thats great, i like the idea
when i have to potty i can get up and go do it and not have to stop
so i can....My preference only....
I have to agree with you on Molly having a good education when you
can experience all the beauty of what this great land has to offer,
with all its history...also have to commend you for home schooling
as i would never be any good at that...
Mail, well there are several mail services that folks use, ok some
of you shoot those addresses out to her i know there are a few of
them that are real good that people use, so folks help her there as
i am totally blank on that one, altho the guy that made my website
had a mail service business in Pyrump Nevada i think i spelled that
wrong.
Anyway i hope that some of the folks out there will helpo out with
some of your questions as many of them are fulltimers , and tell you
what they use....
also be sure to check out the files, links, as some good stuff is in
those folders... they are located on the main home page on the left
side. just click on those and it will open up...

As Lilli said, I am also from Roseburg. I have three kids that are still there and one that wants to go back. I met Lilli there many years ago. When I left there the last time I swore that I would never move back to Oregon. But here I am in La Pine, OR. I like it here. Glad that you can be on here and I hope that you can get your answers to your questions. I am sure that there are others that may have some of the same question you do. My hubby and I hope to go to AZ this winter.

Thanks Perry! I use to drive my mom to Rasm Farms all the time, so I know where that is. I did go surfing the net, and found a great web site, with lots of *farms* on it. Dont know if the map matches the farms on the web, but hey I'll stop and pick one up!
We are coming up Sat.... I will try to get by and rattle your cage. Depends on the other half thou :) He is always in a hurry, no matter what we do.
But I want to check out your park for future visits.
We're coming on hwy 35, I think.

Close to town, on Orchard Road, is a stand called Alice's that is nice. Also, a must is to stop by Apple Valley Store...they have great huckleberry milkshakes. Rasmussen Farms is another great fruit/farm stand.
Two options would be to stop by the Visitors Center (Exit 63 on I-84, north side of freeway) or follow the directions on out to Tucker Park, stopping by and saying hi. Either way, you can pick up a "Fruit Loop" map and will help you to identify several of the fruit stands, etc. I'm not at the park, Monday thru Friday, during the day, but am there early in the morning until 10:00 AM and there after 5:00 PM, and of course I'm there weekends.
Let me know if I can assist you further. Hope you'll stop by and say hi!
