Thanks for that Steve and welcome to the Group, BTW, I've got a few
thing s to catch up with you on, so I'll e-mail you off the forum.
Graham
I'm happy to report that RML2271 passed her MOT this afternoon. Apart
from a slight problem we had with her not long after John and I
brought her up the road that resulted in the gearbox piston seals
needing renewed, she has performed admirably in the 11 months John and
I have owned her, and has been displayed at three Bus Rallies this
year, so here's to another year of deriving immense pleasure from
driving the world's greatest bus.
Thanks to members Alex Cunningham for the photo of ex-Clydeside RM54,
Dr. Chris Dobbing for two photos of his bus; former Kelvin RM471 and
Bob Lear for the creation of a Scottish Routemasters folder. There is
actually a photo on one of Stuart Till's websites of RM471 still in
Kelvin livery on the 6 Route in Easterhouse, it's very possible that
it is me driving her as 471 was frequently allocated to my duties
during my days as a Crew Driver at Stepps Depot.
The surviving heroes on the 159 provide a nice little numerical tongue
twister, as the following stagger on under increasing layers of dirt.
2307 and 2703; 2375, 2573 and 2753; 2572 and 2752.
In fact stagger is not quite the right word, as several are really
quite spritely and the drivers certainly seem to be able to get the
best out of them. Like the 38, the 159 carries heavy loadings for a
considerable part of the day. Some have been treated to a clean too.
The following seem to be the best, although without taking notes at the
time I may have mixed up a couple or omitted one or two.
895 (noisy g'box) 1975 the best of the lot 2307, 2366(very noisy inside)
2577, 2636, 2619, 2759(bangs and rattles)
What stood out to me about the last buses on the 13 38 and 159 was the
number running around with obviously quite noisy defects, that sound
like like B frame locating bushes and exhausts fouling. One can't
really blame the companies as wear in some parts can be gradual,
expensive to repair and once done someting that then has a lifespan of
quite a few years. With the axe hanging over RMs since 2003 it is
hardly surprising that certain jobs are left until someone finally
refuses to sign the vehicle off as serviceable and it is then
cannibalised instead.
Hi all,
have opened a new photo album called Ex scottishn Routemasters.
1 pic so far RM54 at Streatham.
Will list more when I can.
BOB
http;//bobsroutemasterpage.fotopic.net/
In addition to the ex-Scottish Routemasters on the heritage routes, at least two of the RM's still running on the 159 saw service in Scotland. RM54 (the only remaining RM in service in London with non-opening upper deck front windows) saw service with Clydeside as also I believe did RM1975 (Rory). I attach a photo of RM54 taken at Streatham on 30th September. I also travelled on and photographed RM1975 on the 19 earlier this year and photographed her again at Streatham Hill last Friday. I have posted some Routemaster photos on my yahoo albums at www.geocities.com/cessna152towser/
Hi Graham,
thanks for that I will look forward to it.
I will upload a photofile on this group shortly, thats a good idea.
I will probally begin it after the 159 goes as it takes time to dig
out all the pics,am currently trying to catalogue them anyway.
Regards BOB

Former Kelvin Scottish Routemaster RM1933 became the first bus to
run on the new London Routemaster Heritage Services. London Mayor
Ken Livingstone and Transport for London's Director of Surface
Transport Peter Hendy were both on hand today to formally launch the
service. Mayor Ken looked a little uncomfortable when a BBC London
News reporter asked him what he thought about the grumblings amongst
Londoners about the removal of the majority of RMs from regular
service.
Anyway, for the record, the ex-Scottish RMs running on the Heritage
routes are:
RM652 WLT 652 ex-Clydeside Scottish Paisley Depot
RM1933 ALD 933B ex-Kelvin Scottish Stepps Depot
RM1941 ALD 941B ex-Kelvin Scottish Stepps Depot
RM1968 ALD 968B ex-Stagecoach Glasgow Magicbus Warroch Street Depot
Bluebird Buses Perth Depot
I've noticed that at least three Routemasters that served with the
Scottish Bus Group during the late 1980s will be operating on the
Stagecoach London Routemaster Heritage 15 Service, I know Bob Lear
will be out taking snaps that day to add to his excellent web-page.
The buses in question are: ex-Clydeside Scottish RM652, which was
affectionately named 'Rodney the Routemaster' by the then Managing
Director of Clydeside, George Watson. RM652 was the very first
Routemaster to run in service in Glasgow and there are several
photos of her operating the main Glasgow-Johnstone trunk roads while
still in full London Transport livery. The other two buses, former
Kelvin Scottish RMs1933 & 1941 are very familiar to me as they were
allocated to my Depot at Stepps between October 1986 when I
commenced employment as a conductor and August 1987 when the
decision was sadly taken to reduce crew operation from three routes
down to two. I conducted on both those buses during that time and my
fondest memories were of RM1941 in particular, not only was it a
flying machine, but the front heater blasted out piping hot air,
which was just as well as the winter of 1986/87 was one of the
coldest in memory, so it will be good to know that two of my old
charges will still be running in London next year.
Yeah will be very sad to see them all gone, bendys are useless and unreliable

Hi Graham, how about posting some pics of your bus from last weeks
wedding trip,
Not alot of activity as yet are you all shy?
If you are not upto date with whats going on down the smoke, then of
the 3 RM routes left the 13 goes next friday with the 38 following the
Friday after, specials will be running on both these days. The 38 will
be worth the trip south.
Tha last route to go will be the 159 which is on fri 9th Dec with an
enthusiasts day on the Thu.
TFLs heritage routes commence on the 14th November.
After December I presume that Edinburgh will boast the most RMs in
daily service in the UK.
Responses please

Hi Graham,
A great idea to start up a forum north of the border.
I am looking forward to hearing how things are going with the numerous
numbers of RMs now in Scotland.
I have added a link to my fotopic site which I hope will be of help &
enjoyment to all.
For anyone in the London area this week, First are running an RM on
routes 1 & 257 on Saturday,if you need more details then let me know.

I would just like to extend a warm welcome to our first two new
members, both are Routemaster owners, RM1403 and RML2755 respectively,
hope you enjoy the forum.
As owner of the Scottish Routemaster Owner's Group and also
preserved RML2271, I would like to welcome everyone to the forum,
Routemaster owners and enthusiasts alike. There has been quite a
renaissance in Routemaster ownership in Scotland over the past two
years since the mass withdrawal of Routemasters in London commenced.
During the late 1980s, Glasgow was the biggest user of Routemasters
outside of London with over a hundred running in the City for
Clydeside Scottish, Kelvin Scottish and Stagecoach respectively.
Here is a list of Routemasters currently in preservation and also
being used commercially in Scotland.
Commercially operated Routemasters:
First Glasgow Private Hires: Five, all RMLs: 2365, JJD 365D,(This
bus is painted in Glasgow Corporation Transport Livery), 2486

RM759, WLT 759 and RML2717, SMK 717F have been withdrawn and are up
for sale.
Mac Tours: Twenty, various types including standard closed and open
top RMs, closed top RMCs, convertible open top RCLs, semi open top
ERMs and two closed top RMAs, a real variety for the Routemaster
connoisseurs, all twenty have now been re-fitted with Cummins Euro2B
low emission engines and Allison MT electronic gearboxes.
Wilson's Scottish Travel Coaches: Three, all RMLs, 891, HSL 660,ex-
WLT 891 which has been converted to semi open-top, 2432, JJD 432D
