I have had a similar problem, and it turned out it had nothing to do with the
Ranger. Rather, I found when I opened up the Avcon "Power Pack" the main power
relays had fried. This has happened on tow of them. I'm not sure what exactly
caused them to go, but I ended up replacing the relays with some furnace relays,
and they have been workinbg like a charm.
But the symptoms were exactly as you described. I plug in the Avcon paddle, and
the relay clicks, and the light turns green, and the fans wind up. Only the
problem is the batteries don't charge (actually they discharge from running the
fans all night). I don't know which Avcon box you have, but if it's the grey
plastic box, the first thing I would do is open the box and check the relay.
