Here you can view TECHNICAL discussions about our work making the 2004-06 Prius a gplug-in hybrid (PHEV). Our prototypes were a step toward getting automakers to produce them. Our first PRIUS+ had a 10+ mile electric-only range at up to 35 MPH. It remains a highway-capable Prius, with the batteries improving MPG at higher speeds. We modeled our effort on "Open Source" software development projects: We drew on the expertise and solutions of a broad group of experts and no individual owns any resulting intellectual property.
