BMW seems to be getting really serious about this sportbike thing. Witness their latest concept bike. It's a six cylinder wild child called simply Concept 6.

Fascination, Supremacy and Riding Comfort with Six Cylinders

That's how BMW Motorrad describe the two-wheeled six banger. But this isn't just some paper mache concept show rig. Production is planned for the very near future and the first model promised is a new luxo touring rig to replace the K1200LT.

However, showing off a rad new motor like this in some moto-barge wouldn't be very exciting now would it? Of course not. Instead the boys in Munich decided to offer us a space-age cafe racer to show off the Concept 6.

Supremacy and dynamism are also borne out clearly by the thrilling design of the Concept 6 and, as usual, this project from BMW Motorrad is more than “just” the attempt to develop a motorcycle of a kind never seen before.

Working on Concept 6, the designers at BMW Motorrad have therefore focused yet again on technical function and quality and, in particular, the emotional element bringing together man and machine. Their rule, quite simply, is that a motorcycle must not only follow the laws of functionality, but also arouse emotion in all its facets. In a nutshell, therefore, the machine must be simply thrilling.

Simply thrilling.

I'd have to agree!

Dear Moto Liberty Patron,
As you know, we don't bother you often with e-mails.  We respect your privacy and only contact you when we have substantial reason to.   Here's a few things we think merit an e-mail to our customer list.    (If you'd like to be removed from this list send an e-mail to staff@... and enter delete in the subject line.)

OLYMPIA MOTOSPORTS
Olympia is the number one best selling line of motorcycle gear in our store in Dallas.  It may not be the most heavily advertised, but in our opinion it is the most well thought out gear on the market for the price.   You really get what you pay for when you buy an Olympia jacket or riding pants.  Features for all weather riding; versatility, and at a price that won't break your bank. We can't tell you how many times we've heard "I love my Olympia......" .   So, we've launched a new website dedicated to just Olympia products.   Please check it out at  http://Olympia.motoliberty.com/
We only have about 20 left, but we have the Patton and Voyagers on close out for $139.95!

Although Olympia is still the #1 best selling gear in our store, our website sales of Olympia have dropped off.  So, we're sitting here racking our brain on where to advertise our new site, when it came to me.....  why not ask our customers?!?   So, please let us know what forum, club or informative website you frequent and think Moto Liberty would be a positive impact as an advertiser for other members of that group. We are especially interested in advertising our favorite brand, Olympia, but will entertain other good ideas from you, too.   We're looking for  5  good websites to strike deals with to do some banner advertising.   If we place on ad on the website you recommended, we'll send you a  $100.00  gift certificate which be used on any product we carry at our store in Dallas or San Antonio.   You can help your favorite forum generate some support funds and it will be a good partnership for both of us.  :)

SILKOLENE
Moto Liberty also runs www.SilkoleneStore.com   We became a fan of Silkolene oils and lubricants back in our race days. Developed exclusively for motorcycles in the UK, we believe it is the best oil to put in your motorcycle.  So here's a secret code.  Just type in "GO FAST" at checkout for the coupon code, and you'll get the racer discount price of 15% off, which can be even more savings if you buy by the case.

MOTO LIBERTY
We like to have fun at Moto Liberty.  Sometimes that may involve poking a bit a fun at someone near and dear to us.  (That was a clue.)   So please pop on www.motoliberty.com . For a limited time, we have a posted a photo.   If you can identify the person riding, ummm ... bi atch, send his name to michael@...   The first 10 people identify the passenger correctly will be sent free of charge the same cool aviator cap he's wearing in the picture.  :)

ARAI HELMET BLOWOUT
In closing, we're all about safety when it comes to riding gear.  There's been a newsflash, and Arai helmets is discontinuing the Quantum series helmets.  We really think you should go to your local dealer and get fitted properly for an Arai (if they know how to do it), but if that's not an option for you, the Quantum 2 is a ROUND shape helmet.  It does not fit European long oval head.  Don't spend good money on a helmet that doesn't fit you properly!
QUANTUM 2 ARAI HELMETS NOW STARTING AT $399.95!   You must call us to get your best price - we haven't had time to update the website yet, this sale is so new!

Moto Liberty sincerely appreciates your patronage in the past and we'll work hard to provide you with the best quality gear at the best available prices.  We really wish we had a store near you so you could come try on the gear you need before you buy.... but for many of you, a local store to purchase gear just isn't an option.  We try to be the very best next thing to being in your town.  We don't have a restocking fee and everything we sell is returnable for a full refund or store credit on closeouts.  We don't charge freight for exchanges either.   We want you to get gear that fits properly.

THANKS FOR BEING A MOTO LIBERTY CUSTOMER.  WE HOPE YOU'LL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ONE OF THE OFFERS ABOVE.  BUT YOU KNOW WHAT?  INSTEAD OF PURCHASING ANYTHING ON LINE, WE'D REALLY RATHER TALK TO YOU.  CALL US AT 1-800-214-RACE or at either store listed below.

This week's pick is a radically modded bagger from North Carolina. It's an H-D Road King Custom with one stylin' strange paint job. Add a blue jean-wearin' hottie and what more could you ask for?

But wait there's more!

Wha... huh?!? Buy this puppy right now and you'll get a matching guitar. That's right... a fitting end to your faded jeans, Toby Keith-playin', pickup drivin' kind of day.

It's Easier Than Ever to Buy or Sell a Bike

Find whatever you want on eBay...Shopping for a used car or motorcycle?

If you typically avoid eBay Motors fearing the long-distance deal, shipping fiasco or scary escrow services, you might want to reconsider. All that may soon be a thing of the past. The online marketplace has recently made some drastic changes to accommodate local buyers and sellers. In fact, you can even list your vehicle for free!

Right now eBay is offering registered users up to six classifieds per year for no listing fee. That means you can list your motorcycle, car, truck, SUV, four-wheeler or personal watercraft locally or nationally for free. You don't even have to pay the "successful listing fee" unless you list more than four vehicles. This special offer is being advertised as available through July 15, 2009.

Improvements have been made for buyers too. eBay's new Get Local initiative makes localized searches for used bikes and cars easier and more intuitive. Local dealers mix it up also, just in case you might want to consider a shiny, new ride instead. Major metropolitan areas have special landing pages, or you can search by zip code to locate vehicles in a 100 mile radius (you can zero it in tighter if you like).

Conclusion
So far we are liking the changes on eBay Motors. My one complaint might be it's a little too "car-centric." But that's my perennial gripe with most online classifieds. eBay has made a smart move by recognizing the value of classifieds. A large percentage of auction listings were nothing more than classifieds. By making these changes eBay seems to be acknowledging that fact and tuning into user's needs. The big question comes after that promotional period ends: How much?

Joseph Sinclair has done an excellent job guiding newbies through the potential pitfalls in his book, eBay Motors: the Smart Way.

Aftermarket Exhausts are Common UpgradesSAE Announces Motorcycle Sound Test

Last month the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) announced a new sound level test for street motorcycles. The test, touted as simple and economical, is based on a procedure that originated for off-road motorcycles.

Over the last few years it's become increasingly evident the motorcycling community will not police itself. Replacement or removal of stock mufflers has become the norm for retro bikes and cruisers. The practice is further perpetuated by the myth that "loud pipes save lives." A simple and consistent method to measure tailpipe noise has been sorely needed.

The American Motorcyclist Association hailed the news:
"The AMA maintains that few factors contribute more to misunderstanding and prejudice against street riders than excessively noisy motorcycles," Ed Moreland stated. "With the new SAE J2825 standard, street motorcyclists can now determine how quiet, or loud, their bikes really are."
Recently we've seen cumbersome regulations enacted as communities across the country seek to curb excessively loud bikes. Several states and municipalities have considered or enacted regulations to nix any aftermarket muffler or pipe. But these outright bans on any modification to an OEM exhaust system are hard to enforce and virtually impossible for many owners to comply with. Hopefully this test will offer a viable option to such ordinances.

The standard is identified by SAE as J2825, "Measurement of Exhaust Sound Pressure Levels of Stationary On-Highway Motorcycles." This new test requires holding a calibrated sound meter 20 inches from the bike's exhaust tip, then taking readings at various RPM ranges. A magic number of 92 decibels at idle and 96 dBA or 100 dBA at higher RPM, depending on the number of cylinders, is recommended by SAE.

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBay

That's right: Bat Cycle. As in Batman- the Sixties TV series, not the movie.

This is actually the second Batcycle that appeared in the show (the first one was a Harley with a sidecar). But this is the one with the go-kart for Robin to launch off on his own adventures. This is the Batcycle that everyone remembers!

Underneath all that gadgetry is a 1966 Yamaha Catalina (a fun little bike in its own right according to Classic Japanese Motorcycles) attached to a sidecar with a fully functional, standalone 50cc go kart. It's located in New Jersey now and the seller claims it's in very good condition. Opening bid: $29,500.

If that's out of your price range maybe you'd prefer something smaller, like the Hot Wheels TV Series Batcycle? Either way, here's a link to the auction...

Hi Places 2 Ride subscribers,

The arrival of May in Arkansas brings summer to the forefront of everyone’s mind. It also brings tons of festivals and fairs, pleasant temperatures that lure you out-of-doors, and an amazing variety of things to do. The only problem is finding the time to do them all.

If you’re a biker then May is going to be a busy month for you in Arkansas. May 2 brings the Springtime in the Delta Poker Run to Lonoke. Jonesboro hosts the D.A.R.E. to Ride Biker Classic on the 9th. The Magnolia Blossom Festival and World’s Championship Steak Cook-Off May 15 and 16 includes a motorcycle show. There will be rockin’ and rumblin’ in the Ozarks as the state H.O.G. rally roars into Rogers. And the state’s two highest peaks – Rich Mountain and Mount Magazine – serve as beginning and ending locations for the Peak to Peak Poker Run on May. 30.

The unusual, the noteworthy, the bizarre: motorcycle stuff we found on eBay

Here's a cool take on the custom chopper phenom- Harley chopper meets muscle car.

Check out the wheels... those are American Racing mags custom made to fit the single-sided swingarm and fork on this beauty. Very cool. And even cooler yet is the fact that 66% of the final price on this auction is going to charity!

Ive been wondering how many clubs would join effort's across the Region to help raise money for Cancer for this up coming Octobers Motorcycles for the Cures event?

It's been a while now since I have meet hundreds from Virginia, Maryland, NC, SC, Fla, Boston, New York  that have stated that they to would love to be apart of one of our largest gathering for a good cause. I felt that it would be difficult to have a month meeting in person. So by transpiring a conference call once a month for 5 months we can see what transpires by September to try to have this event for the first weekend in October.

It would be under a Crunch for that date or that we can wait and have it for April of 2010.

So in fact that your club weather to be a Social or Motorcycle club and that you ride two wheels feel free to contact Roadblock with MFTC Motorcycles for the Cure so we can begin to organize this important event for the fight against Cancer.

People have asked why I stress so much about putting an event together, Its more difficult than many really understand especially if you have many clubs working together for the same cause. Between so many you can have 500 to over 1000 bikes coming for your community event. As this event comes to date we would be expecting over a thousand to

the event or even three thousand if we worked state wide, Now multiply that by how many  that commit there States, That's raising 100k or better for the  American Cancer Society.

Theirs so much involved with gathering the folks to help get the word out and to support this event that the organizing would top any event that we have done in the past.

Each event we do has gotten bigger and bigger every year in the Sport Bike Community.

So in fact when we have all bikes from all the many diferent kinds of clubs through out the States that was mentioned, Your looking at one of the Biggest Charity Events ever organized in the country.

I seem to work better under pressure, with other event's that I am working on' Such as the Yacht Clubs in the aspect of gathering Boats for a cause. A weekend Bike and Car show for February or March of 2010 this is all for charity. Its all ways stressful to juggle your passion to help others and to be with your family to give enough time to do it all.

But when you have the right friends to help you' it always seems to be worth it at the end.

There are allot of organizations such as ours in the U.S. but none that work with others to strive together for a common goal. Working together seems to invite so many to help

community's and gathers old friends and new friends to have an eventful weekend of events for a great cause.

So if In fact that your association or Bikers organization (CLUB) or just as Independents please feel free to put your name on the roster for the Cancer ride event for our 3rd Annual Fall Bikers Bash for the fight against Cancer. Or even of many events we are currently working on. Thank you Roadblock / MFTC

This new place to ride was added to our database by Webmaster.

Type of Ride: Street
California Route 76 winds through the mountains of Cleveland National Forest just northeast of Escondido, California. It's been called Southern California's most technical road- and it just might be.

Smooth pavement makes for a great ride. Hairpins and tight switchbacks means you'd better leave the running boards at home! But watch for decreasing radius turns that could ruin your whole day.

Pick it up off I-15 and head east. When you get to Lake Henshaw, take a break then turn around and do it again!

This new place to ride was added to our database by Lynn T.

Type of Ride: Street
State Highway 191 from the Dam up to Zwolle is the prettiest. It had nice hills, few twisting turns, bridges across sections on Toledo Bend Lake. Very nice drive but but watch your speed (55 mph) for Louisiana State Police. I know the hard way!!

There are other pretty roads the turn off of 191- for example 474 is about 11 miles long (my favorite).

You will enjoy the ride.

If you own a Cardo Scala Rider you should read this.

Staying safe while riding a motorcycle doesn't just require undivided attention, a well maintained machine and the proper safety equipment. Turns out it also requires careful riding gear selection and mounting.

After several months of trouble-free service from our Cardo Scala Rider communicators we have found a troublesome flaw. When mounted on a full face helmet the unit hangs down below the helmet enough to cause injury... more

This new place to ride was added to our database by Webmaster.

Type of Ride: Street
A less crowded alternative to The Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, the Cherohala Skyway runs from Robbinsville, NC to Tellico Plains, TN.

21 miles of the Skyway are in Tennessee and known as state highway 165. Then 15 miles of the route, and the road's highest point, are in North Carolina. The name Cherohala is a combination of the two National Forests the road crosses- Cherokee and Nantahala.

The ride offers sweeping corners, scenic views and climbs up to 5,390 feet at the Santeetlah Overlook. Only completed in 1996 the road has quickly become a favorite destination for riders from across the Southeast.
