Hello 307 owners,

I'm from australia, and am looking to get the 2.0 L petrol model. Just
wondering what type of interiors that we can choose from. So far I have
only seen the black with zebra striped seat, which I think look ugly. I
was talking to a guy at Straightaway Motors and he was telling me I
could get some aftermarket seats, but I would prefer not spend extra on
those, and get a different standard interior. I think one of the reasons
that seats might be so ugly, is to encourage people to get the leather
option, a shame really as it wrecks the good looks of the outside.

Also how is the build quality on the MY03 models? Is it really that bad?
This is really putting me off buying peugeots. I have done a bit of
research, and in nearly every review somebody is talking about some
fault such as computer error messages and such. I would much rather
buy a car and forget about it until the next service. 307 sounds like a
hastle in this regard.

I guess the last thing I should ask about is the dealers, specifically the
melbourne ones. Where can I get a good deal? how long does it should
take to get car? Hope I didn't ask too many questions, I still have
more...hehe

Cheers!

Hi All. I'm a 307XS owner and love it but I am very much looking
forward to the 307CC when it arrives later this year.
I have never enjoyed driving a car more than the 307 and I've driven
many makes and models of other European cars but nothing comes near
the 307 for "value for money". Does any one else agree?

I read on the Peugeot 307 site news about the search for a forum or a mailinglist eventually turned out to this. Im now wondering if
anyone would like a forum. I have the posibility to actually set one up. So if we want one, I can arrange one :D

I only have a "front" socket near the gear lever (307XS). It is only
powered when the ignition is on or switched to the accessory
position. I just spent a while trying to find this in the Owners
Handbook and it describes correctly that power is only supplied when
switched to accessory.

I therefore assume that this is intentional. It is probably part of
Peugeot's paranoia about you running the battery down! I have not
experimented to see if the socket gets switched off when "Economy
Mode Activated" occurs, but I imagine that it does.

So John, if you ask about this at the service, they will probably
tell you that your handbook is faulty and cross out the incorrect
words?

I don't agree with this behaviour of the socket (makes it really hard
to recharge my mobile phone in the car). I wonder how long before we
delve into the wiring to correct things like this. Or are they
decided by software and therefore not easily changed by fiddling with
a few wires?

Regards to all
Mark

My 307 handbook states that both the front and rear 12 volt accessories
sockets are "supplied with the ignition off".
This is correct for the socket in the boot, but the socket by the
automatic gear selector is only powered when the ignition key is
inserted, and turned to the accessories position.
Is this normal or should I get it looked at when it goes in for the
first service?

Hello Robert:

I live in the Pennant Hills. No, I have got the "First" GOLD 307 in
Sydney, so no cruise control. BTW, my car is in manual and lucky me
it has saved me a lot of potential nightmares from auto gearbox. I
don't find the cruise control useful, especially in the Sydney
traffic with bumper to bumper.

I had experienced twice with starting problems 7 months ago. But
engine was warm on both cases. My dad's Renault Scenic, I must say
its 2.0L engine is much much much better and smoother than my 307.

So far I have no problems with engine computer management. So far so
good, except some other "quality" issues in my car…easy to fix but
still let u down a bit.

Hello Robert:

Welcome to the group. So far, I have seen 2 "Gold" 307 on the Sydney
street. Peugeot is going to release new colours on 307CC....eg. dark
grey, a very elegant colour.

So far, no ECU problems or Anti Pollution Fault in my car, but I have
got a list of other problems from day 1 …..well, most of them were
fixed. BTW, I am going to "purchase" an one year extension factory
warranty from Peugeot dealer and make sure my car can survive until
its 40k km birthday party....... in the service depo.

I think "Anti pollution fault" is Peugeot's answer to Microsoft's "General Protection Fault" - the code name for a "disaster up your way".

You have to brace yourself everytime that comes up.

John's airbag story is pretty impressive, but on New Year's Eve, I was turning across a road.  Just as I started moving off, the bloody message came up with the alarm beeping away.  Next moment, the car loses almost all power, with the revs bouncing up and down (from idle to about 1800rpm) - flooring the throttle makes no difference.  On stopping the car, the idling was very irregular, and the engine fault light would not go out.  Turned the car off, feeling very embarassed.

Brought the car to the dealer.  Turns out, in its genius, the computer decided to impose a 15km/h speed limit, in the middle of a turn across a road - I could've been T-boned!  I really felt like a sitting duck crawling through that intersection.

It's things like this that make me hope we never get brake by wire.  I can just cope with throttle by wire!

The anti pollution fault seems to be an intermittent fault affecting many 307s - I guess, aside from replacing the ECU, there isn't much we can do about it.  Software updates don't seem to get rid of it - I hope they replace my ECU or emissions control unit, because after a month of behaving perfectly, the engine started spluttering with a "Catalytic Converter Fault" message on the screen.  Opened the bonnet, the engine was bouncing up and down on its mounts.  Stopped the car - started it again, back to normal.

French electronics.  When will they learn =)

Hi Terence,

The 2.0 auto is definately a better choice than the 1.6 auto if your budget
will stretch that way - the 1.6 is quite dozy, far better as a manual.

Aegean Blue was only introduced recently to the 307 in Australia - it was a
special order colour previously. But I'm surprised that Sahara Gold is
being chopped - I knew the standard red wasn't selling (I'm not sure why red
isn't fashionable anymore). One thing's for sure - you won't see Peugeot
dropping silver!

My car has passed 19,000km and will be going in for its 20,000km service in
a fortnight. The Peugeot service intervals are as they say they are - 20k
swapping between minor ($300) & major ($660). 10k intermediate checks are
supposed to be free between services - I paid $11 for mine (top up of
fluids - and I have to say, I'm sure I at least got $11 worth of Peugeot
washer fluid!). Sydney dealers are notorious for charging more than
everywhere else (they don't seem to confirm to the Peugeot menu priced
servicing system) - I've seen $200 for oil changes at the 10k intermediate
checks.

I paid $54 for an oil change out in the country at a Peugeot dealer that
sells about 5 cars a month :)

Which dealer did you buy the car from and what have they quoted for
delivery. I know a list member that can tell you all about waiting times!
I think he holds the record in Australia :)

Regards,

Justin

Hello,
I have been doing some research on the 307. After some test drives
on the 307 1.6L XS Auto and 2.0L XSE Auto, I have just placed an
order for the 307 2.0L XSE auto today!

I was shocked when I was told at the dealership, that no more Sahara
Gold, Aegean Blue or Cherry Red XSEs will be brought into Australia?!

Loved the addition of Cruise Control and auto-dimming rear-view
mirrors to the 307 MY03 XSE.

I would also like to find out from fellow owners of the 307,
about "real-world figures" of service intervals to expect from
owning a 307 in Australia.

Cheers.

You can't hide in that Sahara Gold colour, eh :)

If you have pictures of your car, you're welcome to upload it to the Photos
section. Just click on Photos, Members Cars, then "Add Photo" and your
car's photo will be placed in our photo gallery - Gary, I've just edited it.

I've uploaded a handful of files which may be interesting - not all are in
English. There's some info about the 307 CC, a German comparison of the 307
1.6 with the Stilo, Civic, Corolla & Astra, and some brochure and
specification files. More will be coming over time. If you come across any
interesting files - you're welcome to add them to the files section (as long
as they're not too big as we have a space limit).

Cheers,

Justin

new in January of this year, and so far I'm very pleased with it. I'm
getting an average of 32mpg which is far better than my previous car (Subaru

Hi there.

I'm Alan Kilham and live near Oxford, England.

I a new Peugeot 307SW 2.0HDi SE owner (got mine on 1st March) and am
currently enjoying discovering all the bits and pieces on it!
Is this the 110HP or 90HP model?

So far I am very impressed but have had intermitant faults on....

Have you had any problems with the indicator stalk yet?  This is a very common 307 problem.

1. When playing a CD I get "break through" from the radio every 45
seconds or so (almost as if TA had kicked in but there is no TRAFFIC
signal on the display).  I must say that this fault seems to have
disappeared in the last few days so hopefully just a glich.
Unfortunately in Australia, we don't get much RDS functionality, so I can't really help - the only RDS functionality I've come across is the display of the station name in the radio display.  I guess, being a French car, we better get used to electrical glitches.

2. My nearside door mirror failed to deploy when turning on the
ignition (this seemed to happen for a few days after I had handwashed
the car!).  Again this seems to have cleared up (maybe it's dried
out!).

Hope this is only a temporary glitch.  My experience with the 307 suggests that a lot of the problems just come up once in a while - and your car being a recent build car augurs well, as most of the problems appear to have been resolved.

Look forward to reading lots of interesting stuff about the 307 on
here.

By the way - anyone know exactly how the 45 seconds lighting delay
works (it's supposed to help you get indoors after you've locked the
doors in the dark)?

This is a feature of the automatic headlight system - you need to have this switched on (on & off is toggled by putting the key in the ACC position & pushing in the switch on the end of the indicator stalk for 2 seconds - then the multi function display will display a message).

After you come home at night, and you park your car in the driveway - when you turn the car off, the headlights remain illuminated for 45 seconds, lighting up your path to the door - then they switch off.  I guess this feature is only useful if you park your car in a manner where the headlights can actually light up something useful - as opposed to the wall of the garage.

Thanks.

ALAN

Subject: [peugeot-307] Introduction

Hi, my name is Mark and I drive a white 307XS 1.6 litre with manual transmission, Feb or Mar 2002 build, first registered May 2002.

I live in Melbourne, Australia and am a long-time member of the Peugeot Car Club of Victoria.  I have owned many Peugeots over the years - 403 404 504 505.  Currently, in addition to the 307, I have a 505SR familiale (1985) and a 404 sedan (1969).

I am quite happy with the 307 so far - good handling and quite zippy around town, although I sometimes think that the two litre version would be nice to have.  Unfortunately the two litre XSE model costs a lot extra (about $5500) in Australia.
It's actually gone up in price, the 2.0 XSE is now $5800 more.  Supply of the 1.6 cars is now ok, but the 2.0 cars are still hard to get in Australia.
I haven't had any major problems so far - just the usual indicator stalk problems that gather affect every early model 307, also some problems with trim and carpet fitting.
See the latest news on the website - apparently the supplier of COM2000 stalks for the 307 has gone bust!
Lately, the external temperature sensor seems to have gone a bit haywire and randomly displays temperatures about 10 degrees low.  I'm currently debating with the dealer's service department whether this affects the climate control (I think it does and they claim it doesn't).  The car is going in for its 20,000km service next week, so the discussion will continue then!
Ask them - where does the climate control get its temperature readings from?  Ask them to prove it from the service manual - they'll give up soon.  Don't see why they're so reluctant - it's covered under warranty anyway.
Finally thanks to Justin for setting up this discussion group - great idea!
No problem, I hope the list continues to grow over time.  307 information and discussion is somewhat limited on the internet, so it'll be great to have a new well of knowledge worldwide.  Having frequented the 206gti mailing list for quite some time - I know they are great.

Welcome to the list.
Regards
Mark

Hi there.

I'm Alan Kilham and live near Oxford, England.

I a new Peugeot 307SW 2.0HDi SE owner (got mine on 1st March) and am
currently enjoying discovering all the bits and pieces on it!

So far I am very impressed but have had intermitant faults on....

1. When playing a CD I get "break through" from the radio every 45
seconds or so (almost as if TA had kicked in but there is no TRAFFIC
signal on the display). I must say that this fault seems to have
disappeared in the last few days so hopefully just a glich.

2. My nearside door mirror failed to deploy when turning on the
ignition (this seemed to happen for a few days after I had handwashed
the car!). Again this seems to have cleared up (maybe it's dried
out!).

Look forward to reading lots of interesting stuff about the 307 on
here.

By the way - anyone know exactly how the 45 seconds lighting delay
works (it's supposed to help you get indoors after you've locked the

Thanks.

Hi All
my name is John and i am from the South of Scotland in the UK , my home town is called Gretna-Green (famous for people running away to get married from all over the world)
I drive a Peugeot 307 HDI Rapier in BLUE ,purchased new in November 2001,great car but the electrics have been a nightmare from new ,
Main problem loosing Dash Electrics ,Wipers etc at random times, between several days to months, and lasting for up to10 seconds .Car has been back to main dealers five or six times for this fault, still not fixed
Latest trick it has performed is to Fire off the nearside AIRBAGS ,so it is now back at main dealers ,with a big row brewing !!!
I still think it is a great car,and i will keep you all informed on how things turn out

Cheers
John

If you're joining the list, I encourage you to just post a small
introduction if you wish, for instance, what car you drive and what
part of the world you come from and anything else you'd like to add.

I'm Justin, from Australia and I drive a Peugeot 307 1.6 XS. I've
had this car since May 2002 and it's a late February 2002 build car.

Cheers,

Justin

Hi,

Welcome to peugeot-307: The Peugeot 307 Mailing List. I'm Justin,
the webmaster of The Peugeot 307 Site at
http://users.bigpond.net.au/skystar/peugeot307/. I'm from Australia
and drive a 2002 Peugeot 307 1.6 XS Auto.

For some time there has been a demand for a forum or mailing list to
compliment the site and this mailing list should help fill this void.

I hope you enjoy your time here and I look forward to many
interesting discussions about the Peugeot 307 on this mailing list.
In the meantime, you're always welcome to visit The Peugeot 307 Site.

Cheers,

Justin
