This website has been created for owners of, and people interested in BMW's 80's super coupe the M635CSI (known as the M6).
Released in 1983 for the 1984 model year this magnificent beast offered twin cams, 4 valves per cylinder, 286BHP, 0-100 in 6 secs, and a top speed of 255km/h. To put this in perspective the dearer Ferrari 308QV of 1984 put out 240BHP, had a slower top speed and took almost 7 seconds to reach 100KPH! "Wheels Magazine" from October 1983 said "The engine will pull from 1500 rpm in top, while balance in bends taken above 200km/h is ideal."
Only 5835 M635’s were produced between 1984 and 1989. Of these only 524 were made in RHD primarily for the UK market(1985-89). Anecdotally only 4 were ever officially delivered by BMW GA to Australian owners and 2 of these were picked up by their owners whilst in Europe on holidays. 22 cars were sold new in New Zealand between 1985 & 1989. 20 of these were originally intended for sale in Australia but difficulties on gaining compliance for the 22 cars ordered saw all but 2 "promotional cars" shipped across the Tasman. Due to the high asking price (approx $200K in 1986!). The cars were hardly a sales success in NZ with the last car leaving the showroom in 1989.
The performance and relative rarity of these vehicles has seen them become quite popular with enthusiasts and hence a number of “grey imports” have found their way into both countries. “Guesstimates” place the total number of M635’s in New Zealand at 24 whilst we have located 45 in Australia (including at least 4 imported from NZ).
The purpose of this website is to track down all the M635’s located in Australia and New Zealand and create a forum for discussion for their owners and others interested in these beautiful machines. Please feel free to join and if you own an M635 in Australia or New Zealand please update the details in the relevant section of the site.
