Ok - this is a big warning - Caution mistakes like this could kill you.
A) Auto Seats made in the last ten years are all tested for
construction and crash worthyness. enough said. Rust is not a problem.
get powdercoated if necessary. and use marine grade grease. Do not weld
on seats use grade 8 bolts and design to bolt on. I design products for
a living - use good factory made components in this part of you vech.
18Gs of force is not uncommon x 150lbs(driver) = lethal force

what about a semblance of a lazy susan with a lock using stainless
bearings etc. it should'nt be too bad. the bearings could ride in
tracks. just a thought. tom

There are at least two different sizes Does the shifter have a stud sticking
out of the shift ball where it mounts to the shift rod?

If your VW is like mine you can undue the two bolts holding it in place and take
it to the guy. Remember how it came out and don't lose any parts, also the end
will be greasy. The other option is go to your local hardware store and buy a
bunch of individual nuts . Find out which one works on the shifter. Type of
thread is impt. may have fine or coarse thread or something else. Third option
is to take the car to the guy doing the work. If he is going to create threads
in the shifter using a "tap" he may have a "die" (creates threads on a rod) that
fits the shifter lever. From that he can detirmine what he has to do.

Billy,
go to www.BTW-trikers.org and they have classifieds with a lot of
partial trikes. They also have a technical link that has hundreds of
ideas.

I was wanting to start to build a trike when I get out of school
this next summer. I was wondering if anyone could give me any
advice, or ideas where to look. I don't want a full on already made
trike I wanna cranck a wrench or two, make it a little bit mine, but
I also would like one that's in progress. Anything anybody can offer
would be a great help. Thanks,

Hi there, nice web site it had been a while since i checked it out.i
can't wait to see the new pic's when you get them posted.i been
thinking about that seat problem. and could a person use an old
12volt electric seat adjustment track out of an old luxury
car.dissmantal the rails out of a bench seat frame.mount the two cog
rails end to end on a frame of your design and weld together to get
the travel length your after.then make some sort of frame to mount
the trike seat on.well thats just another idea,to bad a person cant
just think this stuff done.it's only when the hands on stuff starts
that the problems creep up,Later Rocket
Hello to all felow Trikers; I just received this in my e-mail & it
got me thinking. So I decided to share it with everyone.

THIS IS A POWERFUL MESSAGE. PLEASE READ ALL OF IT. I AM PASSING IT
ON BECAUSE I AM CERTAINLY NOT ASHAMED TO DO SO.
In light of the many jokes we send to one another for laugh, this is
a little different:
This is not intended to be a joke, it's not funny, it's intended to
get you thinking..............
A young lady named Sally, relates an experience she had in a
seminary class,
given by her teacher, Dr. Smith. She says that Dr. Smith was known
for his elaborate
object lessons.
One particular day, Sally walked into the seminary and knew they were
in for a fun day.
On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many darts.
Dr. Smith told the
students to draw a picture of someone that they disliked or someone
who had made
them angry, and he would allow them to throw darts at the person's
picture.
Sally's friend drew a picture of who had stolen her boyfriend.
Another friend drew a picture
of his little brother. Sally drew a picture of a former friend,
putting a great deal of detail into
her drawing, even drawing pimples on the face. Sally was pleased with
the overall effect
she had achieved.
The class lined up and began throwing darts. Some of the students
threw their darts with
such force that their targets were ripping apart. Sally looked
forward to her turn, and was
filled with disappointment when Dr. Smith, because of time limits,
asked the students to
return to their seats. Sally sat thinking about how angry she was
because she didn't have
a chance to throw any darts at her target. Dr. Smith began removing
the target from the wall.
Underneath the target was a picture of Jesus. A hush fell over the
room as each student
viewed the mangled picture of Jesus; holes and jagged marks covered
His face and
His eyes were pierced.
Dr. Smith said only these words... "In as much as ye have done it
unto the least of these
my brethren, ye have done it unto Me." Matthew 25:40.
No other words were necessary; the tears filled eyes of the students
focused only on the
picture of Christ.
This is an easy test; you score 100 or zero. It's your choice. If you
aren't ashamed to do this,
please follow the directions.
Jesus said, If you are ashamed of Me, I will be ashamed of you,
before My Father."
Not ashamed... pass this on. Ashamed...delete it.
Isn't it funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then
wonder why the world's going to hell?
Isn't it funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question
what the Bible says?
Isn't it funny how everyone wants to go to heaven provided they do
not have to believe, think, say, or do anything the Bible says. Or is
it scary?
Isn't it funny how someone can say, "I believe in God," but still
follow Satan (who, by the way,
also "believes" in God)?
Isn't it funny how you can send a thousand jokes through e-mail and
they spread like wildfire,
but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think
twice about sharing?
Isn't it funny how the lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene pass freely
through cyberspace,
but the public discussion of Jesus is suppressed in the school and
workplace?
Isn't it funny how someone can be so fired up for Christ on Sunday,
but be an invisible
Christian the rest of the week?
Isn't it funny how when you go to forward this message, you will not
send it to many on
your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what
they will think of you
for sending it to them?
Isn't it funny how I can be more worried about what other people
think of me than
what God thinks of me?
Will YOU pass this on? ... I did!
What i did on one i'm building, took the sliders from a auto's
buck seat, shorten the width, bolted to the seat.
Did it so either wife, who is short or I (tall) could drive it.

Hey everybody, first time I've posted here - been a member for quite
awhile though.
I'm hunting for idea's on fabricating a seat slider for my trike. I
haven't been able to come up with something that meets my
requirements yet.
Due to the configuration of my trike, I really need to put a seat
slider under my glass flat bottom buggy seat. I've got pretty long
pull back bars that make it rather difficult to twist and get out of
the seat. I'd like to be able to slide back and just step out. pics
on this page will give you an idea of my situation
http://showcase.netins.net/web/lorinmiller/trike2_3.html
Requirements are that 1) it must lock in place - reliably. 2) It must
be weatherproof - no rusting allowed! 3) it can only be about 9 or
10" wide total and about 1" tall max. 4)it has to mount on the top of
the tunnel - the tunnel sides will have hinged doors for storage. 5)
it's got to be somewhat simple/elegant.
I've got access to mill/lathe, so don't let basic machining limit
ideas.
Idea's I've had so far are: 1)heavy duty roller bearing drawer
sliders laying flat. 2) C-channels, 3) try to modify existing seat
sliders. None of these really work as they will all either rust to
pieces quickly, or just don't seem like a good solution.
I figure this will also help for future sales potential (short or
tall won't be an issue then).
Thanks!
Lorin
