If your VW is like mine you can undue the two bolts holding it in place and take
it to the guy. Remember how it came out and don't lose any parts, also the end
will be greasy. The other option is go to your local hardware store and buy a
bunch of individual nuts . Find out which one works on the shifter. Type of
thread is impt. may have fine or coarse thread or something else. Third option
is to take the car to the guy doing the work. If he is going to create threads
in the shifter using a "tap" he may have a "die" (creates threads on a rod) that
fits the shifter lever. From that he can detirmine what he has to do.
