On April 5th a party and poker run will be held in Pryor, OK
benefiting the American Hero Ride and the Veterans Hospital in Memphis.
It is my understanding the majority of returning injured Iraq and
Afghanistan soldiers are sent to this hospital. The poker run begins at
11:00 AM at the 69 Grill/Joey's located at 25 N Mill (69 Hwy) in Pryor.
The last bike in will be 4:00 PM at Lucky's. There will be food,
prizes, a ladies "Bustin' Buns Contest" (winner receives $50 cash and
will be featured on the back cover of Oklahoma Biker Rag). Three bands
will play including Judge Parker (http://www.myspace.com/judgeparker),
Wanda Watson (http://www.myspace.com/wandaandfriends;
www.wandawatsonband.com) and Red Dirt Entertainer of the Year 2007
Randy Crouch and Flying Horse (http://www.myspace.com/randycrouch).

This is a rain or shine event. This promises to be the first large
biker event of the 2008 riding season. I hope to see all of you there!

From another group:

The USFS officials in the Ouachita National Forest are trying to
close the few remaining single track trails there, and will not
allow any new trails of any kind. They are also closing many of the
ATV trails, Jeep trails, and not allowing any more riding on
existing fire trails, log roads, skidder trails, anything. There are
several places already closed or severely restricted. We need more
trail so it does not get overridden, not less! Their goal is to end
all motorized recreation in the Ouachitas.

One sneaky thing they did when Bill Clinton was Pres, was they re-
named all of the dirt roads in the National Forest " Trails " . A
road my buddy lives on, near my house, (I live in the Ouachita Nat
Forest ), has about 100 houses on it. It is now called a "Trail".
It's a @#$% road! 18 wheeler log trucks pass by each other daily it
is so wide! Trail my heiney. Pretty soon, unless we get off our
butts, you will not even be able to ride a street legal licensed
motorcycle in the Ouachita NF. They are also restricting ATVs, even
if you are wearing a helmet and riding slow. Many of the ATV trails
end on or cross dirt roads in the Forest . They are going to say
that you cannot ride on the dirt roads since your ATV is not street
legal and licensed. What that will do is keep you from connecting
trails, severely limiting the places and miles that you can ride.

If you have ever ridden at Mena Arkansas , Talimena Oklahoma , or
anywhere in the Ouachita Nat Forest , or have wanted to, this means
you! Talimena will be closed in the Nat Forest very soon unless we
act. Talimena is to some riders as good or almost as good a riding
area as Colorado or Utah . It is going away, folks. The Huckleberry
OHV trails? Going away. Mena trails at Wolf Pen Gap? Going away.
That is 3 riding opportunites gone. Not to mention the Dual Sport
and Adventure riding that will soon follow when they begin to close
the dirt roads, which is next. The dirt roads have already been
restricted, as has the trails at all of the aforementioned areas.

What I need from all of you on ktmtalk, and I mean everyone, Quad
riders, Dual Sport riders, Racers, Trail Riders, Enduro guys and
gals, MXers, your friends, relatives, enemies, people you meet on
the street: Send letters to the Ouachita National Forest officials
stating your strong disagreement with their policy of closing the
few remaining OHV trails, and not allowing new trails. In addition
say that you think they should be expanding OHV opportunities, not
the opposite. Be polite, but firm. No bad language. Try to spell
correctly. DO NOT GET PERSONAL! Just state that you disagree with
their trail closures and want more trail, not less.

If you are a PhD, Doctor, Lawyer, current or former Military, Law
Enforcement, any kind of monniker that sounds official or otherwise
sets you apart as a US citizen, state that. Humanitarian and Civic
orgs like Shriners, Masons, Knights of Columbus, state those too.
Clergy carries big time weight! If you have kids and want to have
them ride OHVs with you in YOUR PUBLIC Forests, say that. School
Teachers, let them know who you are. (Maybe we should rethink the
Lawyers), kidding. Ya'll are people too.

The deadline is THIS WEEKEND, Saturday Mar 22, so don't wait. If
your letter is not postmarked by Friday it might be too late, but
send it anyway because we are trying to get the comment period
extended, might work, might not. Best correspondence is certified
mail, hand written letters. Snail mail is actually better than
email. Email is ok, but keep a copy and tell them in your email that
you are keeping a copy and will be sending a copy to other
legislators and gov officials. (If the emails don't say what they
like, it's too easy for them to simply delete them).

www.usfs. comments-southern-ouachita@...

Ouachita National Forest
Travel Management Planning,
PO Box 1270
Hot Springs Arkansas , 71902 .

Again, emails are good, letters better, certified letters send
shivers up their spines!

If you are really dedicated, send a copy of your letter or email to
your elected officials in your state to show them you are involved
in the trails preservation and expansion process. Even if your
region is not having a problem, this is a nationwide fight that will
affect us all eventually, and probably sooner than later.

Thanks from Jeff Gaston, Arkansas Valley Dirt Riders, (RVDR),
Arkansas Off-Highway Conservation Association, (AOCA), Razorback
Riders, Arkansas Dirt Riders, (ADR), and everyone who rides any
motorized machine in the mid-south.

This is a monthly update to new and old forum members outlining the rules for
the OK Dual Sport mailing list.

1) Please be courteous to other members. No flaming, foul language, spam, or
junk mail. Don't send e-mail about viruses, Internet hoaxes, etc.

2) Always sign posts with your full name. If you own a bike it would be nice to
list your bike on there so others know what you ride.

3) Please focus at least most of your messages on dual sport riding in Oklahoma.
Stay on-topic as much as possible so people don't get too much e-mail in their
inboxes.

4) You can upload pictures and file attachments to the Yahoo message board for
OK Dual Sport. Pictures attached to e-mails will be stripped out to help
contain viruses. If you want to share Oklahoma Dual Sport pictures with others,
you can either post them to Yahoo Groups under this heading or e-mail them
personally to me and I will post them to www.okdualsport.com.

That's it at the moment. Not many, just be nice to each other. If something
else comes up I will add them later.

To send messages to the list members, just send your e-mail to:

okdualsport@yahoogroups.com

You don't have to be a Yahoo member to participate, although it makes it easier
to modify your preferences and filter junk e-mail from people who ply the Yahoo
boards looking for e-mail addresses to spam.

Group ride will meet at William's (formerly Albertson's) in Del City
(SE 29th & Sunnylane), 6:30 PM to ride to Coots, you are welcome to
drive or ride directly too Coots

Saturday, December 8th - Moore, OK - No Alcohol
Annual CMSR Pot Luck Christmas Party at Coots 3529 N. Shields in Moore
(Just 1/2 mile South of 89th & Shields) Please email or call me by
December 6th if you plan to attend.

We will play "Cycle Santa" (our version of dirty Santa) again, each
person needs to bring a wrapped gift. We suggest a cost of no more
than $10. Maybe something motorcycle related, such as:
Tee-shirt, hat, oil for an oil change, a bell, biker music CD (there
are motorcycle specific CD's, but southern rock and blues seems to be
the standard for bikers), a doo rag, handlebar grips, balaclava,
beanie, helmet neck gaiter, toy or model motorcycle, motorcycle care
products (polish, wax, etc.), use your imagination. There were some
really creative gifts last year and everyone had a blast.

We are having a pot luck dinner again. We need to get a list of what
food people are bringing, just so we don't end up with 10 people
bringing the same thing. Please let Anne or I know what you would like
to bring so we can coordinate. Also Anne and I will be furnishing
smoked beef brisket for everyone, so please let us know you are coming
we need a head count to make sure we will have enough food for everyone.
Suggestions for food items to bring:
Side items (cassarole, salad, chips, dip, beans, bread, etc.)
   Desserts (we like desserts)
Meet at Coots BBQ at 6:00 PM

Sunday, December 9th - Del City
CMSR ride to be announced - weather permitting
We will meet at Oklahoma Honda-Suzuki in Del City, at 1:30 PM, and
ride ride at 2:00 PM

We are doing a ride this weekend. Everyone is invited. By the way, I
got on a Kawaski Dual Sport the other day up at Two Dogs Custom
Cycles in Dewey. My feet would not touch the ground on either side.
You must all be giants in this club!

Here is info on this weekend's ride:
Friday evening when Lisa gets off work we are hopping on the scoot
and heading for McAlester to Brett and Geri's house. My brother
invited us to ride the Talimena Drive this weekend. I saw Robert
yesterday and he told me that he and Marie made the ride last
weekend. Overall distance will be between 400 – 500 miles. Booger
John said there is a buffet somewhere along the way that is only
$9.00 per person for all you can eat. Dammit man, they obviously
have never fed a pack of hungry bikers after a long night partying!

Saturday night Lisa and I plan to stay at the Kickstart Bed and
Breakfast in Stigler. Mike promises a big country breakfast Sunday
morning. (Does it sound like all I want to do is eat?!!?) Mike told
me last night that he still has accommodations for three more
couples at the Bed and Breakfast for Saturday night. The cost is $70
per night plus tax if anyone else wants to stay there with us on
Saturday night.

Yesterday I went to Joey's in Pryor and had Witt change the fluids
and put new plugs in my ol' scooter. They weren't too bad since the
last time Two Dogs changed them. I have been trying to spread my
business around amongst the folks who advertise in OKLAHOMA BIKER.
So I suppose we are road ready. Of course when you ride an ol' Evo2
as much as I do you are bound to have problems occasionally.

We are planning to film some of this ride to broadcast over our
website next Tuesday evening at 8pm. So if you are unable to make
the trip perhaps you can see the fall colors as we blast over the
mountains. Also don't forget that next Monday we are doing a ride
for all of the folks who work in motorsickle shops. We will leave
the Carousel Lounge located at 4666 S. Mingo Road in Tulsa at 1:00
pm. If you come early Sheila is feeding us all a FREE lunch (I love
that girl!). We plan to ride together for about a hundred miles.
Should be lots of fun.

If you can't make the run with us down the Talimena Drive there are
some other things going on this weekend. There is a Toy Run in
Cleveland in memory of Buffalo and Cindy (Stoner will you be there?)
G-Man and his crew will be on the Toy Run in Vinita. Plus there is a
benefit ride out of Chandler, I think, for a boy who has cancer.

We have most of our pictures from Sparks posted now. Stoner still
has a few left on his camera but there are several hundred up on our
website for you to see. Hopefully we will have some of the other
events up for you to see before long.

Everyone ride safe this weekend. Yesterday a crazeee bastard in a
cage pulled a U turn directly in front of Ray on his Geezer Glide
while we were riding down 69-A. This past week I have had several
cages pull out in front of me. So be extremely careful this
weekend `cause they damn sure ain't watchin' out for us; however,
those damn V-twins sure run good this time of year, don't they!
Check out all of the pictures we take at on our travels at
www.oklahomabiker.net. Hope to see ya soon in the wind! The Janitor

you can either post them to Yahoo Groups under this heading or e-mail them
personally to me and I will post them to www.okdualsport.com.

That's it at the moment. Not many, just be nice to each other. If something
else comes up I will add them later.

Make it a Saturday or Sunday lunch sometime and some of us from OKC
would probably ride up and join in!

Hey Kieth,  it sounds like you guys have some great rides.  I'll try to make it to one of your meetings and I would definitely be interested in going on those kind of rides.
Thanks, Randy 812-0934 (Jenks)

I should be there, Randy. Ride reports from the last two years when I
attended (James Pratt has actually done it 4 or 5 years in a row, I
think) are on my website, http://bahwolf.com, if you want to know what
you're getting yourself into. Information for this year's rally is on
the Ride OK website -- I see someone was kind enough to post a link.

Glad you enjoyed the Spavinaw article!

I read your write up in "Ride Oklahoma" about the Spavinaw trip,
great story! I haven't subscribed (yet) to the magazine but I was
given a copy by Gary Miller one day while I was enroute to Norman
taking my son back home. We were two up on my KLR and had stopped at
the Phillips 66 on the turnpike and Gary was heading home after a day
at Hallet. I enjoyed meeting him and really liked the magazine.

Hi, Randy. I'm not in Tulsa (OKC here), but thought I would chime in
anyway. You should bring your KLR to the dualsport rally in Clayton in
Oct. Information is at the rideok.com website. You'll also get more
responses posting your request there in the forums. I don't know how
many of us actually use the old Yahoo groups list anymore.

Great to have you with us!
