Hi all

Maybe slightly out of the area, but of interest.

Have just been past the following information from
David Griffiths, which may be of interest.

Gelligaer UDC 80th Anniversary Rally - Sunday 21st
Sept 2008.
During his tenure as General Manager of Gelligaer UDC,
Roy Marshall was responsible for purchasing three new
Bristol VR's BTX539-41J in 1971,
which were bodied up in Wigan by Northern Counties,
sadly the last of these was scrapped in 2007 after a
bad accident with a garage wall at the premises where
it was being repaired in Bedwas near Caerphilly whilst
in preservation.
However, as a salute to the VR's and to Roy Marshall,
we want to have a major turn out of Bristol VR's at
the Gelliagaer UDC 80th Anniversary Rally on Sunday 21
September.
The event will take place in and around Gelligaer and
will feature bus running as well as everything you
have come to expect from a traditional bus rally.
Please visit the Gelligaer Anniversary page on the -
www.welsh-transport -festival. co.uk for more
information, entry is free and entry forms are now
available or you can enter on line!

Dave.

Hi folks, I was browsing through the bus groups when I came across this
one, it stuck out straight away because of the former Tayside Buses

other Ailsa ran for 20 years, I'd be interested to find out where this
picture was taken, can anyone tell me where this bus is? Many thanx,

Does anyone have any pictures of TR Coaches fleet, or any links to
sites which do? I went to school for many years on TR's fleet, but find

Plaxton coach on old 'K' plates, then the two Bedford/Duples - VNT 8S

Any details on the fleet, or photos, would be appreciated

Gwyn...the yard is in Bontnewydd is as I described and you confirmed
, the house is called Gerallt (after Giraldus Cambrensis )and if you
go to the website www2.getmapping.com and put into the search box LL54
7UN it will bring up a plan of the village, switch to "view photo" at
the top of the map and you can even see coaches in the yard !

Their second yard is in Penygroes on the llynfi Road, as for South Road
in Bangor, sorry I do not know anything about this yeard.

Er, thank you for the info re Express Motors, but I am now more confused
than ever!

I assume it's behind a large house (Ganllwyd?) in the middle of Bontnewydd,
on the main road, south of the bridge over the Gwyrfai?

Or it could be near Tesco in Caernarfon? Or on Bangor Road? (Are there 2
Tescos in Cofi-town? Cos the one on my map is on South Road, nowhere near
Bangor Road! And neither location is in Bontnewydd. Or is this a further
yard, used only for storage?)

Thanks anyway,

Gwyn

Hello Gwyn,
Your mention of Dolgellau makes me hope that you were not looking for
Express in Bontnewydd, near Dolgellau.

Express are located in a yard and garage off the main road on the right
from Caernarfon to Pen y groes heading for the latter, the yard is behind
a large house near the centre of the village on a right hand bend which
could cause a driver to miss it as it is at a lower level than the road
and partially hidden.

Good Hunting
