Good point...but I have no one who lives around me,
but perhaps there is someone I work with. But I guess
I have to map out all the DMV licensing days first to
see if perhaps one of the other one's is closer to
someone I know.
Apparently each only does motorcycle licensing on one
day, and in the morning at that. (so they say)
I will have to call Concord to get that info.

Well, I picked up the People 250 the other day, and rode it around the yard for about 1/2 a mile....but at that point, I had to go to work. (BTW: this is my first 2 wheeler other than a bike and the mini-bike I rode as a kid about 30 years ago)
Anyways, today I took it out on the side roads around my house and ended up doing about 41.3km (about 25.7 miles)
It was a blast....I was not used to something this heavy at first, but I got used to it fairly quickly. I was trying to practice all the required skills / patterns the DMV tests you on for a license.
If I get a little more time on it tomorrow, I might just scoot out and try the license test on Thursday. (they only do motorcycle testing on Thursdays in the morning at the Manchester NH DMV)
I still need to find a way to trailer it to the DMV though. :-(
So, at this point, I must say I am a very happy scooter owner indeed! (my safety course insn't until the end of June, but I hope to be licensed before them....cross my fingers)

As far as I know if you want to take it on the road it has to be
inspected. I have a 1979 Vespa p125x and I have a friend with a 1962
VBB and both of these require inspection. It is pretty basic. The just
make sure there are no structual issues such a alot of rust and you
have to have working headlights and taillights. Find out from someone
if there is a scooter friendly inpection shop around. Some of the
Motorcycle places can give you a hard time because they don't know 2
strokes to well.

Thanks for the info Rhodrie! I had a motorcycle license in NH but it
was back in 1981 - 1984 and haven't had one since then so I suppose
it's time to go back to the drawing board. I saw in your post that
you mentioned that you had to get your scoot inspected. Does that
hold also for vintage scooters? I imagine I will be able to get it
inspected at a motorcycle shop. I was told that signal lights and
mirrors were not required since the scooter is vintage. Does that
sound right to you? I can always add mirrors easily but the signal
lights would be more difficult. Again, thanks for your licensing info.
Betty
Quinton,
Give the DMV a call. I believe you are allowed to renew your premit
one time. you may have to pay a fee though.

Yes....I actually have a 250, but yes, for anything over 50cc, you
need a motorcycle licence.
I have already signed up for the safety class....and I have a scehdule
date of late June.
I made one critical mistake....which makes all of this a bit more
difficult for me. I already went up for my permit when I thought the
bike ws only 2 week away....that was stupid because it slipped out to
about 6 weeks.
Well, it WAS only good for 30 days, so I don't have a permit any
longer. (pretty stupid)
So now I have to practice illegaly and trailer the scooter up to get
my license. (and they only do tests on Thursdays....so I have to hit
it all perfectly at this point...probably not going to hit this
Thursday given the logistics needed to get there.)
Still....all is moving forward!

Quentin,
So we will be seeing this next Tuesday I assume. Glad to here you got
it. As far as the sticker goes I am pretty sure we can come up with a
Scoot Free or Die sticker that can go over it nicely. My scoot is
almost back on the road. Finally found a replacement headlight.
Hopefully I can get it inspected this week.
Betty,
NH motorcycle laws summery.
You have to have a motorcycle endorsement for any two wheeled vehicle
with an engine larger than 50cc and/or a top of more then 30mph.
Anything less and you need a drivers license. This doesn't mean
people
don't take there 50cc scooter that are registered as moped and modify
them to get higher speeds.
To get a license there are two methods. You can go to the DMV pay $30
for a permit. This is valid for 30 days. In this thirty day time
frame
you have to pass a riding test at the DMV (Thursday mornings). The
other option, which I would recommend, is to take the safety class.
It
is one weekend long and they teach you quite a lot. At the end of the
class you have to pass a written and driving test and they will give
you a certificate saying you completed the class. Take this to the
DMV
and the will give you your endorsement for the fee. No test required.

This link should answer anything I missed.

Glad to hear that things are looking up for you. Sounds like you'll
be on the road in no time enjoying this beautiful weather.
Just curious, is it required in NH to have a motorcycle endorsement on
your license for a 150cc scooter. Something tells me the answer is
yes. Also do you have to take the safety class? I figured since you
are well on your way to acquiring your scooter, you might know the
answers.
Thanks, Betty
Yes, I even went up and paid for it, and registered it!
It is still being prepped, don't have it at home yet, but I hope to
see it in my garage tomorrow evening. (if I can get out of work early
enough)
What perfect weather.....I know there will be other days like this to
come.
Oh yea, i also saw a Grand Vista for the first time. It was kind of
sweet...but I have to admit that I did not get a full picture of it as
it was still on the pallet w/o it's front wheel assembled.
I didn't get to sit on it, but it does seem to have decent leg room,
but I'm not sure if the bars are low or not. (they don't look bad to me)
In fact, it is a really great looking scooter.
My only negative comment is regarding the huge "Made in Taiwan"
sticked on the front of all the scooters. I don't think it really ads
to the looks. Not that "Made in Taiwan" is bad.....I happen to think
it is very good (particularly for a scooter), but most people don't
know one way or the other, and being as large we it is, it sort of
makes you "notice" it. (which is probably their intent....but I don't
really need to be a riding billboard for a country)
I will keep everyone informed as things progress. (I still need to be
licensed)
-Quentin
I look forward to the rides too...I was hoping my scooter would be
here today....but so far....no dice.
Either way, I still have to get it on the road and get licensed....but
first things first! :-)
Tomorrow for sure!

I spoke to BigToy the other day when I went up looking for my scooter.
I showed him the club shirt and button, and he was excited to see a
club forming.
He said that he thought this would sort of act as a "support group"
tobring together interested people. He thought it was good for
themarket in general.
Sounds like he is on our side.....I suspect he would hand out fliers.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know that some of us from RI scooters
responded to your invite. Its great to see the scene growing
everywhere. Things are really exploding down here. Javaspeed Scooters
is having a crazy busy spring, and the Wed night rides are already
briging in 20+ scooters.
Also wanted to remind you about Death or glory SC Rally happening
July 29-31 (www.dogsc.com)should be loads of fun.
My wife and I have relatives in Merrimack and would love to truck
the scoots up sometime this summer.
Keep the group rides posted and you may end up with a large group
from a small state. -ride safe-Scott

The British Iron Motorcycle show in Auburn, MA is coming up on May
22nd. It is about an hour from my house in Wilton using the
backroads.
If anyone is interested in riding down I would like to do it,
otherwise I will be driving down. More information at
http://www.massbia.com/home.htm
I know DCSC says they will be there so it will be a good chance to
meet those guys and find out about their rally.
Quentin,
You don't think 15 min is enough time to get ready. I fixed them. I
put them in late at night that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.

Oh...one small question. I see the calendar entries for the rides. One
of them seems to NOT have a reminder email set...and the other seems
to only send out an email 15 minutes in advance.
I like the idea of a reminder email....but maybe a day in
advance....or at least perhaps in the morning might work better for
me. (I work over an hour away....and a 15 minute warning would not do
me very much good :-)

Excellent!
This is great....I see that I am not even close to the 2nd person to
sign-on. That's great.....now I just have to get my scooter! <aaarg....>
I am probably going to be very busy this weekend as I am going to the
going up to the HOSSTRADERS ham radio flea market. (www.hosstraders.com)
I have a bunch of stuff to sell....but then I generally comeback with
stuff too. (oh well)
I still have my fingers crossed that my scooter will come in on
Friday...but it is a long shot! (never say never)
