I rode up there for the morning 2 weeks ago and had just a very smiling ride on 221 from Newland to Blowing Rock,  no traffic in front of me at all! For those going to Boone for the rally or just want something to fun to do ride the zipline. We did 8 sections with the shortest being 400+ feet and the longest being 2000+ feet. If you have never done it it is a blast. Google Scream Time Zipline for the particulars. Another fun thing to do is go to the Mast General Store on 194 south. From the KOA take 194 South through downtown Boone. 194 will go left as it leaves 421. 194 at this point is a very narrow and tight twisty road so consider yourself warned. Mast General Store is only a couple miles in and worth the stop. A little further on 194 is their annex, also worth a stop. You can continue on 194. It will make a right turn but you can proceed straight. This will come out on 105 where you can take a left and follow it back to 432/194 and the campground. If you want a really good meal go to the Daniel Boone Inn. It is on 421 as you go through downtown.
