Sounds good.... one question.... where is 117?   Can't seem to find it intersecting with 64 on the map sites.  (I'm not real familiar with the roads down that away.

I end up coming home down 86 on a pretty regular basis...its a bit
straight and monotonouse for me after a long day of riding in the
hills, but beggars can't be choosers and its better than the slab!

>>if we can find a south-eastern rider in the RDU area we'll have the
whole area canvased!

True, but I can't imagine why anyone in the triangle would go that
way...not to talk smack about that area, but the roads are less than
spectacular.

>>What time would you be leaving and where would you be leaving
from?

I'd be leaving Chapel Hill around 8:30. My ride is generally pretty
boring for 45 minutes or so and then the fun starts. I ride west on
40 to the GBO airport exit (can't remember the number) Highway 68.
We go north a few miles and then meet up with a bunch of guys at a
gas station/country store (again I can't remember the name!) From
there its all fun and games in a north westerly direction.

>>I can try to see if I can work it out....but the odds aren't real
good.

Thats okay, I try to do it at least twice a month, so I'm sure our
schedules will mesh sooner or later.

>>I'll ride with anybody..... if they are too fast for me I'll catch

dito

>>BTW I live in The Wake Forest area and ride a 96 VFR what do you
>>ride?

I live in Chapel Hill just off of the 15-501 exit from 40 and I ride
an 03 VFR

Well, back to the grind...later man.

I live in Hillsborough. I mostly ride north and west. A great road
that I do often is N86 to Danville then W 58 to the Blue Ridge
Parkway. From Hillsborough downtown, it is exactly 2 hours to the BRP
- Mabry Mill.

I mostly ride by myself but would enjoy company if some one wants to ride.

Hi Mike,

That's cool, I normaly ride north and EAST of here and I think Bryan rides South and West of here.... if we can find a south-eastern rider in the RDU area we'll have the whole area canvased!

I actually need to ride up through the Meadows of Dan area to Volney to get my Virginia Grand Tour Passport validated there.  Unfortunatley I can't go Sunday..... at least I am pretty sure I can't.  What time would you be leaving and where would you be leaving from?  I can try to see if I can work it out....but the odds aren't real good.

I agree with you on keeping a safe riding style on public roads.  I'll ride with anybody..... if they are too fast for me I'll catch up at a pre-determined stop.  If they are too slow (I've never had that problem yet) they can catch up to me at a pre-determined stop.  I ride with the Greater Raleigh Southern Cruisers quite often so I don't have a problem riding at those speeds and just enjoying the sceenery.

BTW I live in The Wake Forest area and ride a 96 VFR what do you ride?

Rick

Ahhh....... then you've traveled through Southern Indiana and Southern Illinois Before?   Those two states are LOADED with BUGS....especially from sunset through the early morning hours.
I THINK I am ready for this trip.... I've been doing 400 mile days alot and have done two 500 mile days in the past month or so.  I plan on doing several more between now and October.

If you haven't tried touring on your bike, you should.  It's hard to explain how satisfying it is to stop in a small town for gas or lunch and the locals come up to you and ask where your from and tell you how much they like your bike.  They're always really nice and you get the feeling they envy you and wish they could do what you are doing.  You'd be amazed at the sites you'll see.  I had no idea some of the landscapes that were within an hours ride from where I lived!
But mainly you get to ride and enjoy the countryside and see things in places you've never been.  When you get stiff from riding just find a nice twisty road and have some fun!

I'm really looking forward to a overnight trip up in the mountains soon.  It's cool up there this time of year (especially at night) and there are campgrounds available just about anywhere you would want to go.  I just ordered a luggage rack (small..low profile) so I'll have more room for my camping gear on my next overnight trip.  I think I'll probably head up somewhere near chimney rock VA if anybody is interested in riding along.  Just haven't set a date yet.

You'll love the atmosphere out there though!  It's bikes everywhere... you'll get tired of waving every 30 seconds or so as you pass other bikes.  Of course on the dragon you'll have your hands too ful to wave!

Sure will Phillip,  I recommend making it a 3 day trip (staying 2 nights) especially if you are from the eastern part of the state (like me).  I stayed at a motorcycle campground called Iron Horse and loved it there.  They even have "Bunk houses" that ony cost $18 a night and include a bunk with a matteress all the sheets and blankets a pillow and towels and wash cloths for the shower room.  The bunk houses require a 2 night minium and a 7 day advance reservation to secure them.  Weekends are very full so if you can make it durring the week your chances at a bunkhouse are much better unless you reserve WAY in advance.  I believe many of the other motorcycle campgrounds out there have smilar accomidations for about the same price.
Everywhere you go there are bikes out there and there are SO many nice roads to ride out there!  There are a ton of roads out there that I didn't have time to ride.  I did ride the dragon 3 times though and saw my picture on killboy.com  (they take pictures of riders as they go through the dragon).
Hopefully someone will be going this summer/fall and you can ride with them.  I doubt I can make it again this year although I would LOVE to!  I am sure that a trip to the Dragon will always be at the top of my list for the BEST motorcycle trips (and I take alot of them).
If you get the chance to go, go!!   I went solo and had so many friends out there when I got there I never felt like I had come alone.

Rick, no unfortunately nothing specific at the moment. I have a
local riding friend that is from that area and plan to get up there
with him soon.
When that happens I'll check the group here and see if there isn't
a chance of making it 'more the merrier' kinda thing.

Have fun and be safe! thnx

Hey fellas,
Tickets at the gate for VIR are $10 for Fri; Sat and Sun are $50
each; or all weekend is $60. No charge to park a bike but cages are
charged $10. A buddy and I rode up there last year and watched
Duhamel kick arse. It's not fitting into the budget this year though.
The track has a website: www.virclub.com
Later,
Clay

Bryan,

Is it the 26-28th? I beleive it's between Danville VA and South
Boston right? What is the cost for the weekend, and also just for
Saturday? It sounds like alot of fun, not sure if I can get away
for the whole weekend, but maybe Friday/Saturday or Sat/Sun or
possibly just Saturday day trip.

Where were you thinking of riding this weekend?

Hey guys lets ride... Looks like it will be nice this weekend and
all this talk about it makes me want to go ride... Rick lets get some
riding going. Are either of you planing on going to VIR at the end of
this month for the AMA race? I go up every year and camp all weekend.
It's a great time. Let me know if your going and I'll tell you how to
find us. Last year we a blast someone brought a keg of beer :) so
alot of riders stoped by.
