Well, I know that there's a good website for events -

have water shows on there too though.  I was wondering if anyone had
the dates for NBeast this year.  Can't seem to find it.

I've got some leftover t-shirts from this year.   They're very nice
screen printed shirts, with a simple orange and white NBeast logo
design on the front, on a black, short-sleeved shirt.   Nothing on the
back.

If you couldn't make it, and want a souvenir, a t-shirt would be
perfect!   This was a very limited run of shirts, so it will be a
unique bit of VW memorabilia.

We had a great time in Luray!   This year I took my new project, a 1982
Diesel Westy camper.   Not only was it great to camp in, but it also
served as office and shelter during the car show.

get-together
at the Parkhurst Restaurant at Rainbow Hill. Folks'll be there starting at about
7:00PM until

Here's the schedule for this year's NBeast!


Saturday, October 23: The NBeast Car Show!

8:00AM: The gates open for show cars, in the parking lot for Luray
Caverns.

11:00AM: Judging begins.

There are 3 competition categories:

- Stock: showroom condition. No accessories or mods.
- Modified: $1500 or less in modifications.
- Custom: $1500 or more in modifications.

There are three prizes (trophies) in each category, based on judge's
scores. The car with the overall highest score wins the "Beast Of
Show"
trophy.

For those not interested in the competition categories, your car is
automatically entered in the "Just For Fun" category. The following
prizes (trophies) will be awarded to Just For Fun cars:

- The Yout Award, given to the car with the lowest mileage.
- The Lewis & Clark Award, given to the car with the highest mileage.
- The Lived-In Award. This one is voted on by attendees, and is
awarded
to the car with the most dirt, scrapes, dings, clutter, etc.
- The Beastliest Award. This is also voted on by attendees, and is
given
to the car with the best Halloween or monster-themed display. Bring
lots
of decorations!

Note that cars in the competition categories are not eligible for Just
For Fun prizes.

2:30PM: The awards ceremony!

Spend the afternoon touring the caverns (we get a group discount), the
antique car museum and the hedge row maze on-site. There's also a gift
shop and restaurant.

Sunday, October 24: The NBeast Cruise!

At 9:00AM, meet at the Luray Caverns parking lot. We'll head West on
211
to the nearby entrance of Skyline Drive. Note that there is a $10
entry
fee per car for Skyline Drive, payable at the gate.

We'll head North on Skyline Drive, stopping at scenic overlooks for
plenty of photo-ops and chances to take in the scenic vistas.

At the end of Skyline Drive, we'll stop in Front Royal, VA for a quick
lunch. There are several fast-food places and other restaurants along
the main road.

After lunch, we'll head up to the world famous DINOSAURLAND!

Actually on that weekend, the leaves in the mountains should be past
their peak, but in the valley they'll still be in color. And it's
beautiful in that area all the time, anyway :-)

October is a very busy month in the Shenandoah Valley, which is good
for us in a lot of ways-- but it means that everyone needs to make some
lodging arrangements ASAP.

We were unable to book any group discounts with hotels or campgrounds,
due to the large number of tourists in the area in October.

owner of Luray Caverns is a car enthusiast and runs an antique car
museum that is right there on site-- and he owns a Passat!    Steve is
working on group rates at nearby motels and we've got groups rates for
all the Luray Caverns activities.     Jellystone Campground is 1 mile
