I just purchased a 1978 Austin 1000 Mini that will need some engine work. I
wonder if anyone can recommened a good repair manual. I see a lot out there and
know from the past that some may be better than others.
I just finished restoration on a 1953 Singer 4AD and looking forward to getting
into the mini. I live in Winona, MN., where the East meets West convention was
held and got the bug again for a mini.
Thanks

Steve-
Try a Haynes manual. Best I know of out there. Enjoy your Mini!
Regards,
Brian
For those who didn't make it to Mad Dogs, I picked up the card for Jim's
Dashworks (www.jimsdashworks.com), in Grand Rapids. They do custom wooden
dashboards for British cars, with full units for a Mini starting @ about $235.
In case anyone's interested...
On Saturday I'm leaving Michigan (forever) to return to my roots in East
Tennessee. After losing my job in February, I have finally found a new position
working for Volkswagen at the new plant being built in Chattanooga. This means
that I will unfortunately be unable to host minis at my house this year during
dream cruise. Please keep the British dream alive for me amidst all of the
American muscle.
The good news is that I will be in a prime location for getting to the Mini 51
in the Smokies next Spring. For those who didn't make it to the Mini 50 this
past April (http://www.classicminis.org/), you really missed one of the best
classic mini events I have ever been to. Please think about coming down for the
follow up event next year. I hope to see you all there.
Erik
Congratulations on landing your new Job Erik! Good luck, and I'll look forward
to seeing you in the smokies next year!
Cheers,
Dave

Hi everyone,
Just joining Motor City Classic Minis finally.
Just finished a 1963 Austin Countryman - posted a few pictures on the photos
page.
The car had been sitting for 15+ years - tires look ok but need to be replaced
for obvious reasons. Local and catalog sources are saying 8-12 weeks due to
compliance with revised DOT noise requirements - anyone aware of a source for
165/70R10 tires?
Thanks!

I think you're only choice is Minimania in California. They will likely have
them in stock, though. Minimania.com
Good luck. Don't forget- Battle of the Brits Show is coming up in a few
weeks. Hope you can have it there!

Thanks for the quick response. Already have qualified for MiniMania's frequent flyer program - they're a great source. No tires (or tyres) at this time.
Planning to have the car at Battle of the Brits.
Thanks!

OK, everyone! The time is almost here for Battle of the Brits in a brand new
location. Its at Orchard lake St. Marys school campus at 3535 Indian Trail
Orchard Lake, MI 48324 .
I'd like to arrange a group of minis to enter the show together, so who's in?
We could meet at the Einstein Bagels @ 12 mile and Orchard lake (just off I696)
around 8:30, and cruise up at 8:45 or so. Gates open at 9, and it should be a
great show. We need a good classic mini turnout this year! Let me know if
you're going.

I will be coming to the show, but can't meet at 8:30pm. I should get to the
show by 10:00am. Save me a spot.
Brain, are you bringing the yellow VTEC? Did you bring any more Mini's back
from your stay in UK?

I'm bringing the old english white supercharged car. The yellow
Honda powered mini just came back from the electrician with a couple of issues,
and I don't think I can have it ready in time. I'd bring both if I could...

We are not going to make it over from Zeeland, MI this year for
the show. My car trailer is down and it is too far to drive with the family. I

What nice weather for the show this year, and at a great new location. Thanks
to those of you who brought your minis out! Wish there had been a bit more
shade, as now I'm nursing a massive sunburn.
Congrats to Scott for taking top honors in the Sliding- Minis category (judged)
and for recieving the People's Choice award for best Mini with his '63
Countryman. I managed to secure second in the roll-up window category with my
OEW 69 Morris Mini.
I just started an album for the show. If any of you have some pics, put 'em up.
I got home with precious few pictures on my camera for some reason-- Can't
believe I didn't take more pics. Anyway, I'd love to see some more posted.
Regards,
Brian
Thanks again to Adam for turning me onto the users group and to Brian for
organizing the convoy. It was a great show, and a lot of fun.
Congratulations on your award as well - the car looked great!

I'm looking for a good condition steel rim with preferably with a usable tire
to be used a spare tire only on the rear. The Mini has a large left fuel tank
and requires a small narrow spare if it is to be mounted in the boot correctly.
I was thinking of something on the order of 145/80 x10. It would only be used
on the rear as the Mini has front disk brakes and would not mount a larger rim.
I'm located in the Bay City, Michigan area. Any assistance would be
appreciated.
The steel one I have would have to be restored- but you could have it. Ray

Well, you are in luck my brother. I have a steel wheel (a bit rusty on the
inner side, but can be saved) that has 145R10 rubber on it. Not sure if the
rubber is still good, but it looks to be in decent shape. Please contact me
directly if you are interested. michiganminiac@...
