the planet....it's email based list. The old timers
there will have answers for you.

Yep original DOKA's are rare as they were only used as learner driver
vehicles. Try to hook up with Stephen Williams at kiddie181@... He
can help you when you have problems.

No, we don't know anyone with a mog but Paul(my other half) has spoken

right?
Shaz.
Hi Shaz,
Have you already hooked up with other 404 owners in the UK?

Hi,
This is our new(to us) Unimog, I don't know a lot about mogs, but I do
know that this a 404 crewcab, it needs some TLC and then hopefully it
will be able to work on our land. Any info would be great. And also
we need the door tops if anyone knows of any .
Thanks.
Paul and Shaz.

Hello there fellow Moggers, I have a Mog too, but am looking for a mid-1980's Mercedes motorhome. Being into Mogs I am hoping some folks in this group can help me out with some leads. All emails answered. Please help me out if you can. Info on these vehicles is even harder to find than Mog info. Reward paid if you can help me locate one to buy, Thanks, Travis Scott

I have a 1957 Unimog 411.110 for sale near Houston, Tx. It has not run
in many years. I tried to move it but it will not roll. I am not sure
why. Later today, I will try to turn the crank to see if the engine is
locked up and take better pictures. It is rusted out in some places
and it has no top or frame for the canvas. It is partially
dismanteled. That is the way I got it and I have not had time or money
to restore it for several years. I do not have a title but will
provide a bill of sale. I am asking $1800.00 for it. It has many good
parts. Contact me if interested and I will send pics.
- In the base of the distributor, there is a centrifugal timing control,
i.e. 2 weigths and 2 springs..
The retainers for the springs were bent .. and thus the springs
were loose ... so no regulation of the timing ..
if you set the timing .. make sure the timing goes upto 30-40
degrees at higher revs... (with strobe light)
- Vacuum is normally not used for the timing of a 404, so no need to
check this.
- The points and condensor are also critical.. (gap)
- The shielded sparkplugs and wire also can cause such problems.
The ignition is the biggest hassle with the 404 ... So welcome to the
club ...
For GR Baker: I had the
same sort of problems five years ago. My Mog had sat for 18 yrs in
a Swiss bunker. I am an amateur mechanic but carried out the
following: The Mog only had 11,000 Kms on it. 1.
Dropped and cleaned the fuel tank drains and strainers. 2.
Clean the inline fuel filter. 3.
Set the valve clearances. 4.
Replaced the points and Condensor. 5.
Replaced the plug wires, so that I could use regular platinum plugs
instead of the expensive
waterproof
plugs. 6.
Set the static timing to 2 degrees BTDC. 7.
Tighten all intake and exhaust manifold fasteners (to prevent vacuum/air
leaks) 8.
Remove and inspect the two mixture adjustment screws for
deformation/contamination.
It is also
very important that all the various little places requiring oil get
topped up regularly. Examples are the fan hub, the idler pulley,
the water pump. If you
want to correspond directly, write me at
"sadlerbk@...". I'm in western Canada, just
north of Vancouver. Cheers . .
.

Check the distributor and rotor aren’t
corroded. What is the status of the fuel in it? You may also have a timing issue. You can time it by ear if necessary.

george,
First step in getting help is to join the other mog list, this list you
are on is pretty quiet and mainly for sending photos.
The main mog list:
http://tx4x4.com/mailman/listinfo/mog_tx4x4.com
As far as you truck is concerned, there are a lot of things. Wrong
carb rebuild kit, bad distributor (common), mis-adjusted valves all
come to mind. The folks on the other mog list will help you out with
these things.

I recently traded for a 404 radio truck, it had been sitting for
years. I put a kit in the carb, installed new plugs and it still runs
rough and doesn't idle consistantly. I checked for vacuum leaks, any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Due to the celebrations of the opening of the new tramtunnel in The
Hague and 100 years Electrical Tram in The Hague, there was a defile of
old trams. And, not very surprisingly, there was a Mog needed to keep
the old stuff rolling...
The HTM (Haagsche Tram Maatschappij, The Hague Tram Company) has two
Unimogs, but the other was not on the set.

Hiya I posted some pictures a week or two ago, and then got busy with

Just discovered a Unimog tool on eBay that could be very useful for all Unimog 404 owner. It is available at $24.95US at a fix price auction.See the pics for details. It works much better than a screw driver !
Here's a tool I found on eBay to fold down the windshield, at a cheap
price too:
