I constructed a high intake for my 404.
pre cleaner at top (new donaldson unit. cost 46 euro or so)
one 90 degree 64mm exhaust pipe (standard bosal pipe. cost 20 euro or so)
part straight (own stock) 64mm exhaust pipe. (no cost ;~)
3mm steel plate (rest part from dustbin, also no cost :~)
It took me about 2½ hour to make it and spraying it before fitting it. I cut
a hole in the side so the 90 degree bend is going (small part) into the cab.
I removed the oilbath filter and took over the mounting plate and holes on
the steel plate. Cut and drilled the plate to fit. With a torch i burned a
hole in the plate to get the pipe trough. The top of the straight pipe i cut
in under angle and bend the two pieces together so the top is (nearly ;~)
vertical for mounting the pre cleaner. Mig welded al the parts together on
the bench and after that coated in primer and next day black. I mounted all
with blue silicon gasket to get airtight. I did drill the small hole to let
the 'oil and crud' out. But i sealed it as what would a high intake do good
as you can still suck water in ;)
It might get prone to damage in offroad but i like the look of it :) It
sound great to, the compressor sound at stationary engine is loud.
