The home fleet is getting in need of a few items worked on, got the quotes
from a dealer and am now looking for other options.
1) 1999 Outback wagon, 129,000 miles
A) needs brake rotors all around (and a change of front pads, too). I'd
do it myself, but am short on time. Dealer quote was $775. O'Reilly parts
are only $141.
B) might need new struts all around. Dealer quote is $1446, plus they
have to order the parts. Might tackle this, but I have even less of this
time available.
2) 2002 WRX Sedan, 174,000 miles
A) original clutch finally needs replacing. Dealer is asking $1552, and
again would need to order parts. This one I would rather not do.
B) getting near the next major service (180K). Dealer standard rate is
$994. I hope to keep driving this for a while, so want to keep it serviced.
C) drivers window is not going up straight. I understand there is an
issue with the bolts holding the PW motor in place, and over time they
enlarge the mounting holes. The cure is to weld in washers to remove the
play. Not sure if this is my problem until things are opened up. Dealer
only wants $150 for this.
Any recommendations for shops in the metro (live in Bloomington but work in
Maplewood, teach in New Hope, and in general travel around).
Thanks,
Ed
