Hello~
This year I will once again be participating in the American Cancer Society’s
Relay For Life® in South St. Paul. Relay For Life® is a 12-hour walk that will
be held on August 11th starting at 7 p.m. and going until Saturday morning at 7
a.m. It is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise
money to help the American Cancer Society save lives, help those who have been
touched by cancer, and empower individuals to fight back against this disease.
During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and
take turns walking or running laps. Each team keeps at least one team member on
the track at all times. I am the team captain for our church’s youth group and
we will be raising money to help in the fight against cancer.
More than one million people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. One of
them could be someone you know. This past year someone very close to me was
diagnosed with cancer—my dad. That’s why I’m asking all of my friends and loved
ones to join me in supporting the Society’s important work. The Society works
every day to prevent cancer and save lives through groundbreaking research,
public education, and better laws that protect people from cancer -- as well as
helping people who are diagnosed with cancer. The Society has already helped
save millions of lives from cancer. If we all join together, we can do even
more.
I feel strongly about eliminating cancer. I hope you can help me with a donation
to this incredible cause. Your support will help people in your community every
day. You can make a secure online contribution from my Personal Donation Page
by clicking on the link below. If you prefer to mail your contribution reply
back to me and I will respond with my address.
Relay is much more than a walk around a track. It is a time to remember those
lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people
who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another. Relay
gives you the power to help accelerate the Society's advancement toward a future
where cancer doesn't take the lives of our friends and family.
I am also taking donations for luminary bags. A luminary bag is a white paper
lunch bag that is filled with sand and a candle placed inside of it. These bags
are then going to be lining the track and during a special luminary ceremony,
each bag’s candle will be lit and will remain lit until the morning. The
luminaries are purchased in honor or in memory of someone touched by cancer.
Last year while walking around the track I found it amazing to read the names of
those touched by cancer. If you would like to purchase a luminary bag, please
respond to this email or speak to me in person. I will be decorating the bags
and your loved ones name will be on the bag. If you have any questions, please
don’t hesitate to let me know.
If you would forward this email to anyone that you know would be willing to
support the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life—please do so. Your support
is very much appreciated.
Thank you!
April Schneider
