Won't be long now until the NSRA Nat's North in Kalamazoo. When we
lived in the area, it was a definite "don't miss it" show. Loads of
cars and great swap. You won't be disappointed.
message from Broe's to Cornish's
Please don't feel that all that has happened to the club is to be
blamed on you and Harold. We know how difficult it is to take over
a club and the economy makes every business venture a hard task to
make successful. Running a club is just like running a business.
I am sorry to hear that your health has not improved much and that
you still need to work such long hours I would not feel bad about
what will inevitably happen to the club – many years have gone by
since this group of people began the club and we probably never
should have tried to grow so quickly or change our criteria for club
membership after Hal and Pat retired. If you asked for someone else
to take over and no one accepted then you did what you could. The
biggest complainers are usually the ones who do the least! It seems
like some have "big" ideas but don't know enough to make them work
so they leave it up to a few who try and then get blamed when things
don't work out. It takes a very strong personality to take all
the "guff" and we just have to say that enough is enough! We really
like you and Harold and regard you as friends and hope you continue
to feel the same about us.

Dear Eula and Harold,
I want to disagree that you and Harold have not done a valiant effort to try to save this club. You two have gone beyond the call of duty to make it possible for this club to survive. Please do not take responsibility for this club petering out as it seems to be. You two have been there boostering this club with a lot of enthusiasm. What does "no longer maintaning the core club fairly," mean? The club decided that the $80. wasn't keeping up with the costs of maintaining it. It's not an insult to life-members, just a recognition that the Club was hemorrhaging with it. If Hal had been an economist and calculated life expectancy of club members, and the rise of expenses over that lifetime, and calculated the life membership accordingly, you probably couldn't have afforded to be life members anyway. Shall we blame Hal? Michigan has the worst prospects in the nation,
second only to Louisiana, in terms of our economy, job propects etc. It is no-one in the Club's fault. Everybody in Michigan is affected by the short-sightedness of the people at the top of our car companies. So everyone is cutting back, hunkering down, and not travelling as much. Jeannie and I busted out butts to put on a Spring picnic for the club, only to have a mediocre turnout. If it hadn't been for locals showing up, it would have been close to a wash out. Same at Gary and Cindy Pilbeam's Pig roast where you provided the music and DJ reponsibilities, again. The renamed Fiesta of the Fifties show at Centerville showed a decline in turnout, but I did see Jim and Julie Underwood, Ken and Jean Moull, and evidence, in the presence of his great gold Chevy pickup, of Clayton Stevens, that he was there. But no-one else! The club needs to know that some people
are busting their butts to make it survive, but if people are too broke to travel to these events, then those who are making heroic efforts, are wasting their time. Perhaps we need to take a break and see if we want to resurrect it after things get better. But please, Harold and Eula, don't take it as a failure of your stewardship that it seems to be failing. You can build a showplace, but if no-one shows up, it demeans your efforts and spirits but it doesn't make it your fault. At least that is my perspective. My computer skills do not permit me to e-mail everybody in the club, short of typing each address in, so please feel free to post it.

Good Morning dear club member
Thank You for
your input, it is greatly appreciated.
There hasn't really been a club since Hal & Pat left,
Lack of participation is evidence of that. We got depressed when we had events here at
home and spent the money out our own pocket to have no one show up.
WE know that other people are just as busy and with prices of gas. (WOW)
I have not been well for quite sometime and working all the hours I do to make ends meet
here at home I don't have the time to devote all of my attention to the club.
I can see where you are coming from, but Harold & I didn't make the rules in January
ourr club members did. We are trying to get someone else to take over because we haven't
done the job others think we should have done. We don't honestly feel we have done a good
job and I appologise for that. Thanks again for touching base with us.
Sadly it looks like Midwest Kustoms is now a different club, no longer focused on maintaining the core group fairly. We have certainly enjoyed being a member but feel that our lifetime membership no longer offers us anything more than if we were new to the club. We also do not have time to participate like all members should to keep a club going or the money to put into the club that is needed to keep things going. The evidence is seen in the lack of participation at events and planning for future events. We are apparently out of the Midwest Kustoms “loop”. We are economically (changed income and gas prices) more tied to events closer to home.
We will not be sending the $20.00 per year. Frankly, the occasional Taildragger does not provide enough information or networking to warrant spending the money. Since we only get it once in a while instead of monthly and online I really don’t want to pay for paper and postal costs for others while we have a lifetime membership.
It has been good to know you and hope we can occasionally see you all at events in the future. We have gotten to know many great people through Midwest Kustoms! Thanks for that opportunity.
Eula, We know of Jim & Julia Underwood, Ken & Jean
Moull, Dave Armstrong, Gary Pilbeam, and the guy that
paints the mailboxes. Sorry, I can't remember his
name. haha! There could've been more but that's all I
know. Julia

Hey Gang!
WE were there Friday night and found nothing going on.
I got up sick as a dog Saturday so we didn't go, just
starting to feel better today.
We know what it is like to drive 90 + miles and
expect to be able to talk to friends
and club members at an event, and it just doesn't
happen.
Things happen and people just can't be there.
How many members showed up Saturday? I would like to
put it in the Taildragger.

Hi there
A gynaecologist was getting tired of his job and decided to switch careers. He'd
always enjoyed tinkering with engines, so he enrolled in a school for car
mechanics.
When the class ended, the students were given their final exam: strip a car
engine completely and reassemble it in perfect working order. The gynaecologist
did his best - and was amazed to find he scored 150%.
"How could that be?" he asked. "Well," said the instructor, "I gave you 50% for
taking the engine apart. Next, I gave you 50% for reassembling it - a really
fantastic job. And then I gave you a 50% bonus for doing it all through the
exhaust pipe."

Dear Midwest Kustomizer,
Spring is finally here and the Spring picnic on May 20 is less than
a month away. Eula has announced the location and given the
directions, but Jeannie and I just want to extend a personal
invitation for y'all to come.
Yes, gas is up high, and most of our kustoms like to guzzle it
rather than sip it, but it is time to shake off the winter blues,
stop worrying about the state of the world, and celebrate our
creations and Spring. Since the gas went up we've been exploring the
low range of the speed limit and finding not just better gas mileage
but also enjoying the driving more.
Come early, stay late. We'll fire up the grill and will have
hamburgers, hotdogs and you'll bring something you want to share.
Eula and Harold, our irrepressible leaders, will spin the platters,
giving us the sounds of our favorite times. Tours are available of
the minimally-equipped shop, that I share with my bud D.Domengoni,
and later in the day, we'll get a bonfire going in my little woods
(well away from the cars). Also, it so happens that fellow club
members, Pinsoneault's, are my immediate neighbors, and they have a
car culture museum, a building devoted to a celebration of the
fifties and car culture in particular. Between us, we can
accommodate all of you and all your cars. Meanwhile, I'm thrashing
to get my '53 Chevy pickup in paint before the 20th. It's a "maybe."
So come celebrate Spring, your creation on wheels, friendship and
good times on the 20th.
