TOUR SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN
September 20th

Over the last week or so a few friends of mine have been organizing a long spirited drive through Michigan to see some of what our beautiful state has to offer. In an effort to make this a really great event we are trying to have a caravan of at least 20 people, the more the merrier. The details are as follows:

TSE Michigan is a driving event that covers around 90 miles of Michigan roads between Milford, Brighton, Pickney, Ann Arbor, and Livonia. We cover the route in a spirited fashion, stopping once for a short break and ending at a parks area to have some pizza, wings, chips, and soda.

Meeting up will begin at 9am and at 11am we start driving.

-Starting in W. Bloomfield
The large public parking lot in front of the Gamestop, near the rear of the Meijer Lot
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42.548...,0.004128&z=19

-Ending at a picnic site in Livonia (Hines Road Parks)
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=42.343...,0.004128&z=19
There are other parking lots in the area that we have planned as backup just in case this one is full or closed on the day of the event.

-All makes/models welcome
-Please RSVP if you intend on attending
-Food will be funded by the whole group. If we have a decent sized group everyone can pitch $5-7 and we should be able to get a bunch of pizza, chicken, soda, etc.
-Feel free to PM me if you have any questions

There will be at least 6 Subaru there. (legacys and sti)
maybe 6 NSX

2009 MI3SI Summer Picnic 8/9/2009 3pm

The 8th annual Michigan 3Si Summer Picnic will be held Sunday August 9. 3pm until ...

This is typically our largest gathering of the year and is open to owners,
family, and friends. Driving a 3S is not mandatory, so come in what runs!

We're doing things a little different this year. instead of Jeff's house (and the potential of his mudpit back yard ;-) were meeting at a new performance shop in the area.

Xccelerated Performance Automotive

Now before you think were slighting Jeff and taking the picnic from him, this new shop is owned by two of our own Jeff (Hey Ya'll watch this) Williamson and Steve (how do you spell his last name?) Podlaskowski.

Its a nice big shop and as 3S owners we'll probably need their services at some point in the future. Might as well to get to know the shop and them now ;-)

Xccelerated Performance Automotive
17000 Northville Road Suite 300
Northville, Mi 48167
Their a block south of 6 Mile Road, and 2 miles west of I275.

Please bring whatever you want to eat or drink. We'll have a grill fired up to cook whatever you bring, and we'll have plates, cups, ice, and condiments on hand. There's plenty of room both inside and outside the shop, so weather wont' be a factor.

Hope to see everyone there!

Check them out here www.xpauto.net

Come on gang get registered it really helps it plan. http://mi3si.org/gatherings/events.php?neventid=48

Oh and if you have a moment Lori's shop is in the running for the Best Arts and Craft Shop in WDIV's Vote for the best contest. She hovering around 5th place and any
additional votes would be real helpful.  http://wdiv.cityvoter.com/skeins-on-main/biz/60557 She's only had the shop since the beginning of the year and staying 5th place or above will be good publicity for her shop.

Thanks

This is an odd post for me to make given the things I do in the 3S community.

But, I'd hate to leave the MI3SI group out of something that other 3S Chapters are doing.

The NG is running low on registrations and thus runs the risk of not breaking even. If it does not break even their will not be an NG10.

You can see details at the following link

Several 3S chapters have decided they want to sponsor in an effort to make sure that the NG continues.

So far the North California Michianna, Chicago have stepped up and set themselves up as sponsors.

As the leader of MI3SI this would fall to me but I feel odd given I help run the NG. But If I don't say something it might just pass buy.

If some of you think it’s a good idea take the preverbal ball and run with it.

Hey, Alan:

The 696 detour is 8 Mile.  From Telegraph down to 8 Mile, then across and back north on 275, I presume.  Then, on to I-96.

Or, you can jump on 12 Mile at Telegraph and take it all the way across to Twelve Oaks Mall, if you're meeting at Denny's.  Turn left/south on Novi Road, and Denny's is on the left -- turn in to the main mall entrance, then shoot off to Denny's lot on the right.

If it is raining, I may bring the Charger.  You can't miss the Halloween paint scheme.

In Oakland County, there will be a full closure of eastbound and westbound
I-696 between M-5 and US-24 (Telegraph Road) beginning at 9p.m. on Friday
and ending by 5a.m. on Monday. Ramp closures most likely will begin after
7p.m. The ramp closures are necessary for bridge demolition, which include
Halstead Road over I-696 and portions of I-696 over Drake Road, and Orchard
Lake Road over I-696.

The following ramps will be closed:
Northbound I-275 to eastbound I-696
Orchard Lake Road to westbound and eastbound I-696
Ramps from Telegraph and M-10 to westbound I-696
Ramp from westbound M-5 to eastbound I-696
Ramp from eastbound M-5 to eastbound I-696

I'll check out the maps and find an alternate route for the east siders.

Hey guys,
I plan on making it.  The car is in pieces, but will live again shortly!  I'm not on yahoo groups and there didn't seem to be a registration on the Michigan 3SI site, so I figured I'd better respond quickly.  What time are we meeting and which Hooters?

It looks like Mitsubishi will be hosting a MOD at the Rock Financial show place in Novi on September 20th.

The details at still being finalized this thread on the midsm forum has some of the details http://www.midsm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3342

General information the MOD’s can be found here http://www.mitsubishicars.com/MMNA/jsp/owners/mod.do

From everything I’ve read it’s a giant free car show for mitsu owners and I think it would be a fun event to go to.

Anyone else interested?

Our annual MI3Si summer picnic will be held Saturday July 19th at the home
of Jeff Williamson in Belleville, near the intersection of I94 and I
275.This is typically our largest gathering of the year and everyone is
invited to attend, even if you are not able to bring your 3S. We'll get
started around 3pm and keep going until everyone leaves. Spouses, relatives,
friends, and kids and welcome, but no pets please. (Jeff's dog is great with
people, but rules his domain when it comes to other animals).

The picnic was held at Jeff's house a few years in the past, but for those
who haven't been there before, there's plenty of private space for parking
at least 30 cars, and we shouldn't have to worry about situations like the
mudfest we had in 2003. Directions to Jeff's house will be sent privately
upon request.

This year, we'll be doing the food like we did last year. Instead of
everyone bring something to share, it's BYOB and BYOF. So bring whatever you
want to eat and drink, and we'll have someone manning the grill for anyone
who has something they want to throw on it. We'll fire up the grill around
5pm. And we'll have napkins, plastic wear, condiments, cups, etc. on hand.

We realize this is relatively short notice, but hope you can attend. There
will be a sign-up sheet on the web site (www.mi3si.org) in a couple of days.
Please register on the sign-up sheet if you plan to attend. You can attend
even if you don't register, but this is just to give us an idea of how many
people to expect.

Hope to see everyone there!

K2K's new karts will be very fast

I got to take a few laps this weekend in the amazing new electric go kart
being developed now at Kart2Kart for the long delayed opening of the new
Apex Conference and Karting Center in Madison Heights.

The machine is very quick, but there's a lot of work to be done before the
kart and the new karting facility are ready for public consumption.

The massive replacement for K2K's indoor karting facility in Sterling
Heights originally was slated to open late last year, but it remains a work
in progress and the opening now isn't expected until late April.

That means Kart2Kart's facility on Van Dyke will remain in operation with
its dependable gas-powered karts while staff continues to develop the new
electric replacement and construction crews turn the old Sam's Club on 14
Mile Road into a restaurant and twin quarter-mile indoor road courses.
Although the British go kart manufacturer sells turn-key operations, K2K is
making major modifications to their prototype to be certain the machine
provides the higher level of performance that local customers have come to
expect.

This certainly is no kiddie arcade go kart. Although the prototype I drove
was limited to about the same top speed as the current gas karts, the
electric motor delivers immediate power so acceleration was far more
impressive. The clocks weren't on, but I'm certain those were among the
fastest laps I've ever turned on K2K's track.

The real racing forces and feel were there. And I didn't miss the loud gas
engine because the electric motor makes a satisfying whine that increases in
pitch with speed. The whole idea of switching to electric karts is about
eliminating the need to ventilate the new building -- thus making the new
track warm in the winter, cool in the summer and not so stinky that your
girlfriend refuses to let you get close until you get rid of those
exhaust-soaked clothes. Hey, wait a minute. That was a good thing.

After my laps in the prototype, a quick battery recharge allowed an old
friend, Grand Rapids Press photographer Lance Wynn, to also try the new
machine. My teammate in this weekend's endurance race at K2K gave a thumbs
up on his return to the pits. When he noted that you can tell it's a heavier
machine (almost 400 pounds more than the current karts), we were told
steering geometry is something the staff also is modifying.

"The steering is heavy, but feels good and it's very fast out of the
corners," Wynn said.

And then he smiled. "There's a lot of response to the accelerator pedal. A
whole lot! They might have some trouble keeping the tires from burning off
of these things."

Kart2Kart plans to continue its current competitive leagues and occassional
2 hour endurance races with it's gasoline karts in Sterling Heights until
the new place opens. Then, plans call for a whole new series of competitive
events that won't include endurance races because battery discharge and
recharge will happen in about 20 minute cycles. But regular customers will
earn licenses based on their own past performances that will automatically
program karts for greater speed. There also is a proposal for a sprint race
series that could offer cash prizes and an opportunity to drive real race
cars.
