Usually the DMV requires a legal document from the existing owner of the estate. If the wife is the owner of the replica she signs off on legal form put together buy an attorney allowing her to sell the car from the estate. DMV want to clear titles so the car being registered is not stolen. Then there is always the sales tax by the DMV. Since the car is a box of parts maybe you can you can use some kind of salvage classification or a noting yourself as the as the ground up builder and not getting involved with previous parties. You bought the parts and put it together yourself.
If a car is purchased from a dealer or on auction - a dealer reassignment form is issued from seller from the state the dealer is in. LOL Gene Buffalo NY

" My serial number was on a gold anodized plaque under the hood on the firewall. "
My car didn't even come with many of the standard pieces (taillights, turn signal lights, hood hardware, door latches, top braces, top, and even some instruments were missing from the dash. I'd guess if anything "gold" existed on this car, it was pilfered and lost long before I bought it. It sat partically completed for a year or so under a shed and apparently much of the "unattached stuff" was in boxes that were not particularly secure. I figure some of this kit is spread all over the east coast! lol
I've heard that there was usually a dealer's 'certificate of origin' of some sort that came from CMC with these kits, but alas, mine does not exist anywhere that I've got a chance of finding it. The owner prior to the one I purchased it from was in another state and is now long deceased. It will undoubtedly be an interesting trip to the DOT office!
