RE: [mercedesw108] Oil leaks

What engine and trans is it?

There are only few places where serious leaks occur. The rest are fairly minor. The first step should be to get the car scrubbed underneath and then go for a drive. Park the car over some white card board and note where the leaks are located. The general area is usually a good place to start looking whether it be a main seal or a simply a cam cover gasket leaking. My recently sold 280SE 3.5 didn’t have one single oil leak anywhere,as an example.

Subject: [mercedesw108] Oil leaks

Hello, I have question about oil leaks. I have been talking to the classic center, they tell me it should be possible to stop ALL leaks under the car. My mechanic says these old MB, you can't stop all the leaks. Since I've been driving it more, more oil is showing up and it looks like there may also be transmission fluid. Have done quite a bit to this car and am willing to do what it takes to stop this, it is a nice car that drives and looks very good. Any leak I have on any vehicle sends it straight to the shop. Can ALL leaks be corrected? Rusty McDonald, 1973 280se 4.5 - just rolled over 72,000 miles.

I have seen very few rear main seal leaks over the years, even my own 6.3 has 300,000 plus miles on it and it is still the original rear seal. The front seal...

5 degrees is the point at which a chain should be changed. If you line up the cam marks, then look at the crank to see where it lays ,it should be between 0...
