Sorry it took so long. It sorta hit the fan right
after I wrote that. I hope you have a V6, because I
know nothing about the 4 cylinder except that "Viper"
offers an upgraded fuel rail. I set up a web site with
the information I have, plus links and pictures of
our two MPVs.

http://www.geocities.com/manlyvanman/index.html

I hope you
find it helpful and interesting. Maybe
together we can find a way to embarrass some of those
Honda owners. I didn't know about the cold air intake,
who offers that piece? I'm planning a total build up
of my wife's V6 with 250~300 hp as the goal and will
need all the help I can get. Ambitious huh? I'm sure
the entire drivetrain will need some beefing if I
achieve my goal. One step at a time. I'm going to acquire
a Gen II motor so I can keep her on the road while
I experiment. A turbo will most likely be a factor
since I have to have the headers custom fabricated
anyway. That will probably necessitate a "Link"
programmable ECU. Big $$$, and big dreams, one step at a time.
Then I have that 4x4 to consider...

I have a 91 that doesnt have 4 wheel drive that
I,ve started converting to 4x4. I may be interested in
your entire vehicle. What options does it have in it?
Could you let me know how much you would want for it?

The 4x4 system (with central locking system)
worked great and the trany was replaced only 50-100
miles before the engine threw a rod bearing, The trany
cost me over $2300.00 DOH!! so I am parting it out.
e-mail me at Spankstr@... to see if I have what
you need. I still have all headlights marker lights
and tail lights they can run you up to 250+ new at
dealer at that price its got to hurt your wallet
Ouch!!:(

The same thing happened to me. It's not your deck
or the speakers. It's actually a crossover on the
firewall located on the outermost passenger side. One easy
way to locate it is to remove the map pocket holder
on the dash and turn your factory deck on and off a
few times. You'll hear a light click, follow the
sound to find it. It would also be a good idea to pull
out the cd player, it's easy, only takes a minute or
two. Match the wires from the back of the deck to the
colors that are going into the crossover. There should
be four wires and a positive, ground, and remote
turn-on. You'll want to cut only the speaker wires before
and after the crossover. (The colors of the wires
will change on the output end of the crossover) Use 4
short pieces of wire and bypass the crossover. Then
your door speakers should have high and low pass
frequencies.

Does anyone have a diagram of the fuel system
layout? I'm in the Air Force over in Germany and can't
get a chilton manual any sooner than 2 weeks. The van
quit and after checking it out, there is no fuel
coming out of the part that is next to the Throttle
Position Sensor. The automotive shop doesn't have a
diagram and I don't want to tow it there. Any help
appreciated!

Mark Freeman
CrawWurm1@...

I want to inform everyone of a new Yahoo club
called Rate Your Minivan. It is a place where you can
write about your minivan and tell everyone what you
like, didlike, etc. about your van. Tell us whether or
not you recommend purchasing one. Post photos,
questions, etc. The main goal of this club, besides giving
you a place to rave or vent about your van, is to
provide helpful info to people who will be purchasing a
minivan. So please be completely honest!! Thanks in
advance!!
The address

i had been pretty happy with my 91 until the
ignition igniter problem but 92 shouldn't give you that
problem...a 4x4 with a ground clearance of maybe 8 inches
with the tires fully inflated ...your off road
adventures would be limited to trips to the 7/11....forget
it.

Hey Everyone,
I am thinking of buying a 1992

do not know much about what the van has to offer
yet. Any info would help.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi everybody. Here in Puerto Rico we use to buy
used cars from Florida and other states, some of them
with more than 100,000 miles. Those cars look in good
conditions, of course. Four month ago I buyed a 1992 MPV from
Orlando to a "guy". After 5 days the transmission broke
the "planets" set. I spent about $800. The
transmission is OK but it gets too hot when you ride a 30
minutes ride, smoke comes from the front of car and a
burned transmission oil smell too. I placed a 12" x 24"
trasmission intercooler to it but still is too hot. I think
the lines aren't the problem because oil comes from
the hoses when I put the intercooler. Does anybody
could help me?

My 1994 Mazda mpv Transmission problems when I
took the car to church today it was making a grinding
sound which I thought it was the cluch
or a piece
of debre on the ground when I came to church I ask a
some the chruch members who knew cars one of them said
it was the akle and when i ask a member who use to
repair cars he said it was the transmission beacuse when
I put the car in gear the tranny does it work and
you have to press the gas pedal to make it move and I
had to get all the members to push it. so when i talk
to the member who use to fix cars he said that the
tranny cost $800 to fix my dad thought it cost $1000 to
fix so I think its about time to sell it and buy a
new car. that car has over 10000 miles on it

I think that your problem is in 2 places, you
have trobles whith the air colector on the tube that
conect the air filter to body (air colector), this
produce the sound of the horn, the other problem here is
in the transmition on the switch that control speed.
If this switch is damadged the overdrive don't
work.

sorry my english & good look

Felix

Hi, I am new to the club. I am having numerous
problems and I joined because I am trying to find others
who have had similar problems with thier MPV's. My
Mazda has 33,000 (lots of adventures), and has been in
the shop countless times. Each time I take it to the
dealership (3 different ones), they can NEVER duplicate the
problem and declare the car sound with no apparent need
for repair. Here are the symptoms: 1. A foul burning
smell after driving at freeway speeds and/or with
luggage or many passengers. 2. An intermittent sound that
comes from the driver's side of the engine can be
described as a distant fog horn or a vacuum sound. The
sound seems to be more prevalent when the car is just
started. It is progressively getting worse. 3. The cruise
control is not working properly - when engaged and after
leveling off of an incline the transmission will not shift
into overdrive. The rpm's remain at 4500 to 5000 until
I turn off the cruise control.

HELP! If you
or anyone you know have had problems like these or
if you have any ideas about what may be the cause,
please reply. The dealerships simply will not admit that
there are problems - I think they must think I am loco!
I will be truly grateful to have some insight.
Thanks, Leslie

I haven't been to Victoria yet. I've only been
here since '98. Too busy to go anywhere.
:)

It's not so much a problem with the oil as it is the
filter and basic design of the motor.

I use
synthetic exclusively because I do a lot of driving as well
as racing (not the MPV). :)

Stay away from
Fram filters. They use cardboard endcaps that can blow
apart when under pressure. Use Mazda, Mobil 1, Wix, or
Purolator oil filters. Don't go over 3,000 at
all.

Now, in other cars where the top of the engine gets
oiled well, you can go longer between changes. Infact,
I run the oil in my Nissan SE-R for about 7,000
miles except when I race it. Modern oil is great
whether it's conventional or synthetic.

That's funny, I was just out your way last week.
I was visiting out-laws in Victoria, a little south
of Houston. Thanks for the info on the oil changes.
That must have been what happened to my '91 MPV. It
used to tick real loud. I do change the oil in both my
Mazda's(I have a '97 626 too) every 3000 miles. Do you know
whether an additive like Marvel Mystery Oil, or something
similar helps?

If you have the V6, wait no longer than 3000
miles to change your oil. The Hydraulic Valve Lash
Adjusters (HVLAs) bleed down and get stuck if the oil
filter get's clogged. The motor doesn't circulate oil to
the heads well. If you hear a ticking, that's
probably the HVLA. It's expensive to have someone fix.
Mazda has a kit that runs roughly $1500 that replaces
the rocker arms, HVLAs, etc.

Spend the money
and change your oil.

The motor V6 is unique to the MPV. Zero
performance parts are available for it. You can do a few
things to perk up the motor, but nothing over the
counter.

A cold air intake can be fabbed to pull air from
where the driver's side fog light would be.

I have a 1996 hunter green MPV too, not 4WD. I
also have access(used to own, but the insurance
company has not picked it up after 4 months) to a 1991
black MPV with front and rear damage. The interior and
motor are intact. The wheels are in great condition
with 50% tread left on them. I will call the insurance
company to see what they want to do with it.
