The Matchless Silver Arrow Silver Hawk Register is a co-operative amalgam of owners of and interested parties for these Matchless motorcycle models manufactured between 1929 and 1935.
The Silver Arrow is a 400cc sidevalve monobloc V-Twin with 18 degs. between the cylinders. Hence our nickname - V@18°club.
The Silver Hawk is a 600cc OHC V-Four, effectively two side by side V-Twins in a common monobloc.
Both machines utilised a unique cantilever suspension system on the rear which was controlled by means of two springs placed horizontally under the saddle and two friction dampers either side of and below these. Adjustable, linked brakes also featured together with a centre stand for the first time.
It is believed that only about 1700 Silver Arrows and 550 Silver Hawks were produced at the London, England Matchless works. Approximately 70 Silver Arrows and 60 Silver Hawks are known to have survived and are included in our register of machines which is constantly being updated as new machines are uncovered. Mutual co-operation is helping owners to complete, restore and ride these technically interesting, advanced for their day, Matchless motorcycles.
