I am selling my garage set-up for storing and pumping biodiesel. It consists
of:
two poly 55 gal. barrels, metal hand pump, in-line filter and 10 ft poly core
hose. All
components purchased new through Yokayo about 18 months ago for $260.
I am selling for $125. The system has only had B100 in it the whole time.
We're remodeling the house and don't have a place for it anymore.
Located in Sausalito.

We have just set up a "rideshare board" forum at the conference website,
feel free to use it to meet up with others traveling to the conference
from your area. I expect it'll take a bit of time for the rideboard to
truly get going - dont be surprised if there's nothing there for a few
days. Feel free to use it for regional resources sharing or to meet
biodieselers from your area also:

Local Biodiesel: A Biodiesel Co-ops Conference, to be held July 14-16, is
now open for attendee registration.

The conference will present case studies and panel discussions about
biodiesel groups- co-ops, educational groups, small business biodiesel,
along with technical, legal, distribution, and feedstock discussions from
the perspective of small-scale availability.

There will be a large amount of time devoted to networking and informal
discussions, to assist in meeting others from your region and with your
specific interests in biodiesel organizing.

We are trying to present presentations based on actual experiences, rather
than theory about how groups should be run. We are looking for speakers
who wish to come talk about their groups and the biodiesel progress in
their community.

The conference is $60 (including two meals a day), with some optional dorm
room accommodations available. Preregistration is required, and the
deadline for that is July 7 (with an earlier deadline for dorm room
reservations unfortunately). Friday night the 14th is a free
presentation to the general public along with a networking social/dorms
check-in afterward. The conference sesssions/presentations will take place
Saturday and Sunday.

The conference website is www.b100.org, and the new Paypal registration
page is www.b100.org/registration

On the right of this page there is a button to send a email to the committee. Please do so before the 18th so they can take it into consideration at the hearing. These comments get entered into the testimony record. Talk about your personal experience with the fuel. If you run a co-op mention how many cars are members and how much fuel per month you sell. Local Biodiesel: A Biodiesel Co-ops Conference

July 15-16

Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO

We are organizing a biodiesel groups/co-ops conference in Colorado near
Denver this summer, at Colorado School of Mines . This event will
present stories and information about homebrewing in groups, as well as
distribution, advocacy, small-scale biodiesel business, and other kinds
of biodiesel group activities.

Web page (still in progress, check back for a list of participating
groups/speakers)
www.b100.org

We'll put up a registration page this week and will keep you informed
about developments for this event. In the meantime, there is an
announcements-only mailing list (ie not a chat list) for anyone who
wants to receive updates by email- at
www.groups.yahoo.com/group/biodieselconference

At this event, presentations will discuss homebrewing and the law,
technical topics relevant to homebrewers and small-scale biodiesel
businesses, organizational aspects of biodiesel co-ops/biodiesel
clubs/biodiesel outreach groups, oil collections and other feedstock
availability issues, cooperating with other biofuelers in your local
community, commercial biodiesel distribution, taxes, bulk-buying clubs,
educating others in your community about biodiesel, and many other
topics. Best of all, we have an extensive lineup of speakers who are
coming to present 'case studies' about their local efforts in biodiesel
groups- telling the story of biodiesel grassroots efforts in North
America from their own experience.

Official conference session themes are:
  case studies,
  biodiesel education and advocacy,
distribution,
  homebrewing and the law,
  feedstock (oil supply),
and technical topics

We want to hear from you! If you have biofuels group experience and
would like to speak at one of our panel discussions (Case Studies) or
lead a discussion session that fits into the above themes, please get in
touch: conference@... . You do not need to be an experienced public
speaker (that's why some of the presentatoins are moderated panels, to
help get non-professionals speaking about their experiences, and we can
help you organize your presentation).

This event is organized by people who've been involved with the Colorado
biodiesel organizations at Denverbiodiesel.org, Boulderbiodiesel.com,
Colo School of Mines Student Council on Sustainability, along with many
others from outside of Colorado: various members of the BIodieselbasics
and Biodiesel Yahoogroups, Utah Biodiesel Co-op, folks from Biofuel
Oasis and Berkeley Biodiesel Collective, and more from around the
country. I'll update the 'who we are' section of the web page soon with
all the guilty parties' names.

The conference will be held at Colorado School of Mines.

Conference accommodations:
We have (optional) dorm housing available Friday-Sunday (unfortunately
can't provide dorm rooms for couples as the school segregates dorm rooms
by gender- we'll try and make a list of hotel accommodations for those
who won't stay in the dorm) and we will be serving breakfast and lunch
as part of the event and using the mealtimes and the evenings as
additional networking opportunities.

Cost: We are charging only as much as the space rental will cost us, and
expect that the weekend's registration costs will be under $100
including dorm housing. We should have more details on the exact amount
on the website within a couple of weeks.

Discussions and networking:
The event will be discussion-based, with audience participation
encouraged for the speakers' sessions, and we will provide ample
opportunity for networking and social time so you can get to meet each
other and share ideas.

Assorted info for those making travel plans:
There will be a free Friday night introductory session for the local
general public, which would run around 6-8 and kick off the event,
although it is not listed on the conference web page yet. Actual
conference orientation/dorm room check-in will take place at the Atrium
tea/refreshments social after this Friday event. (you can also check in
on Saturday morning). Friday evening will be a mellow 'social' before
bedtime, and Saturday night will be a larger party for which we're
renting a facility on campus, with some kind of entertainment. Sunday
night you're on your own as most folks are likely to travel back then.

So, I gather, since CARB doesn't have control over the driver's choice of fuel, PD or BD, they figure the old diesel retirement program is going to get the big soot makers off the road (indirect injection + manually controlled injection pump, maybe 2-stroke diesels?).  Are they really gunning for our old diesel cars?  Seems like it would be such a small percentage of the diesel vehicles on the road.  Conversely, newer diesel technology including electronically controlled direct injection, throttle by wire, etc.  does a great deal to reduce soot.  I imagine that soot reduction is even further reduced by use of BD.

Craig,

Hi Charlie,

Here's what Ed replied to this with:

In a nutshell, diesel cars can pass a test designed for gasoline car very easily, since they are more fuel efficient and the EPA test protocols are set up to look at the areas of concern of a gasoline car and the whole thing is done on a grams/mile basis.
Diesels pass so easily, because of their 30% better fuel economy compared to an equivalent gasoline engine, that it has not been considered worth testing them for the usual gasoline-car tailpipe test emissions.

But what you *do* test a diesel for, and it's of concern of course, is particulates...soot.
And you'll see that in the test results in the thesis, for  *in 2-tank system with heated SVO for that particular car*,  for new Canola oil, used Canola cooking oil, and soy-based ASTM biodiesel - they all cut opacity, the measurable surrogate for particulate, by about 50%! That's a very significant reduction. So, worthwhile.

Further, EPA tests for gasoline cars do not reflect the CO2-neutral status of renewable fuels. So, when you look at "tailpipe" CO2 result, you might say, "well, look, it's no better, and in fact worse, than diesel fuel". Sure, but what's more important on that one is the "global" effect. We need to be more concerned, I think, with overall "life cycle" CO2 emissions, than with tailpipe emissions, when it comes to CO2.

Not to mention that there are other benefits to renewable fuels, of course, versus non-renewables.

Also if we look at the SO2 (sulfur dioxide) emissions...not measured in the EPA tailpipe test....but, if they were, you would see the results of the fact that vegetable oil has such negligible sulfur in it there might as well be none at all. So, lower acid rain contribution than from the diesel fuel currently in use, by a wide margin.

Remember, this is one set of tests, from one car, only. Emissions results vary - not all test protocols and engines are going to give you the same results - but the big gains are generally in particulate reduction, life cycle CO2, and sulfur dioxide.

It's not a perfect fuel, it's not a panacea. Nobody claims it to be. It's a good improvement over using non-renewable petroleum diesel fuel, though, in many ways, and the diesel engine in general, being that much more fuel efficient than a gasoline engine, gives better emissions results in a number of categories, compared to it's gasoline counterpart in the same vehicle, say.

But they're still evil infernal combustion machines, so ride your bike, walk, and change your lifestyle to the extent you can to use less fuel per mile driven, and drive less, period - that's the real message here....we don't HAVE a good answer other than this -  nobody does. And that should scare us.

This is really the best of a bad lot of our grandfather's and father's technologies that led to a completely unsustainable built environment and lifestyle -  and so far we don't have practical electrics, fuel cells, etc.

So, it seems to me that the way we build cities and rural lives, the way we work and live,  that's what really has to change. Biodiesel and SVO are just stepping stones that may help us have a "softer landing", is all. Or not, if we just use them to perpetuate a mentality that is untenable, given our knowledge of what is happening in our world.

His thesis advisor was the former head of British Columbia's EPA analog, and granted Ed access to the main BC emissions testing facility, where they do perform tests of diesels.

We are looking at opening up our pump in Sausalito to a wider group.
We have a 275 Gallon tote tank with electric pump close to the main
drag in Sausalito very close to the Marin CIty exit on 101.

Specifics:
- Current cost is $3.75/gal
- Hours: we are basically around 9-5 m-f but you can always call ahead
to check other times and days. If you are making a special trip
please do call in advance just to check we are in.
- Payment: by check or paypal. If by Paypal you must add 3% for
processing. You can pay by either method in advance and keep track on
our sheet.
- You must sign a sheet similar to Berkely coop that you understand
the risks involved in running biodiesel and that we are not
responsible... etc.

If this goes well we will be investing any money made into more tanks
and a system that will allow people to get fuel 24hrs.

Email me with interest at longnow@...

Hello, all. My wife and I just lost a beautiful 300SD in the recent flood. It
was emaculate,
ran like a top, had only 180,000 miles, and gave us 23mpg on B100. The
insurance
company wants to give us just over $3000 for it, but we're fighting for more
based on the
high demand for clean, well-cared for diesels. Plus, we paid 'way more than
that for it,
and felt it was worth it.

I don't think the adjuster is aware of the market for these cars, as the
"comparables" he
quoted for me were mostly 300Ds and 300TDs in southern california.

Is anyone willing to share the amount they paid for a real nice SD, if it's in
the $4,000
ballpark or over? If so, please email me directly at cam@....

Thanks for any help you can offer, and my apoligies if this is an inappropriate

BIODIESEL COUNCIL OF CALIFORNIA ANNOUNCES 2006 CONFERENCE

SUSTAINABLE BIODIESEL SUMMIT
February 3rd - 5th 2006
San Diego Inn Suites

San Diego (Dec 22, 2006) – The Biodiesel Council of California is
hosting the 3rd annual grassroots biodiesel event in San Diego,
California. This year's theme is Sustainability and Localization of
the Biodiesel Industry. The Sustainable Biodiesel Summit will be held
at the San Diego Innsuites Hotel, February 3rd-5th 2006.

First day of sessions for this year's event will include
speakers on the topics: Fuel Quality, Emissions, Federal
Incentives/Taxes/Legislation, and Regional Reports from across the
nation. Second day of sessions will focus on the future with topics
including: Diesel Passenger Vehicles, Local Feedstocks, Fuel
Production, and Distribution.

"As we look for solutions to a solvent energy future, we need to see
the sustainable choices available to us. The first choice is reducing
our consumption of fossil fuels, second is using appropriate
renewable energy sources like biodiesel," said Kimber Holmes, the
Executive Director of the BCC. "The BCC is pleased to help further
the efforts of the grassroots biodiesel community by hosting the
Sustainable Biodiesel Summit. Our goal is that together we will
continue to develop a decentralized biodieselindustry based on local
feedstocks, production, and distribution."

The Biodiesel Council of California's mission is to inspire socially,
economically, and ecologically sustainable development of the
Biodiesel industry in California by educating and organizing the
public, by advocating for governmental acceptance of neat (B100)
Biodiesel, and by developing and protecting the public Biodiesel
supply.

Registration Information will be on the website very soon.

I've got a new-components processor system for sale. This is fully
assembled of course, not just a kit of parts:

-Appleseed processor, 50ish gallons, on metal stand - this is my newer
version with separate sight tube (identical plumbing to this one:
http://www.b100supply.com/images/products/111.jpg). I can wire it 240V
or 120V depending on your needs.

-HEATED, enclosed wash tank on a stand, with thermostat

- methanol carboys

-mistwash array and irrigation timer

-bubbler for bubblewashing, air pump, and timer

-5 micron filter

-simple titration gear and chemicals

- graduated cylinders for test batches and quality testing

-copy of Biodiesel Homebrew Guide book

-simple (slow) self-priming AC pump

-5 pounds of KOH

$1000

Basically, it's everything you need to get started other than a scale (I
recommend B100supply.com for this . Good ones start at $35 there)

This, and I, are located in Berkeley.

I'm sorry to do an offtopic post (and apologise for all the cross-posting
to other forums you may be on!), but hope you will understand:

******************

there's an effort underway in the SVO community, to bring some 2500 pounds
of clothing from the Northwest to Houston for refugees, which is being
coordinated by Chris Goodwin of Frybrid COnversions in Seattle- and we're
having trouble finding affordable shipping for it- none of the shipping
companies or charities can help with discounted shipping.

We spoke with a contact at Goodwill Katrina Relief in Houston today
(saturday at 3:15 pm) who says the clothing is very much needed- their
warehouse was apparently emptied for a move when the disaster happened and
they very much still need clothes despite donations coming in from
elsewhere.

We're negotiating with another private shipper (through uship.com) at the
moment but feel like there's some risk with that shipper (uShip is like
eBay to some extent and he has negative feedback) and are looking at a
potential alternative:

Chris is considering putting it all onto a 12-foot trailer and trying to
find people in the vegoil community who would do relay drives of the
supplies from Seattle to Texas. I"m in California with a big truck and am
willing to do part of the drive from California, as long as someone else
brings it here to me (Berkeley) in the first place.

Is there anyone who can help either with money to help pay for the
shipping, or with a relay drive of the supplies:

a. anyone with a bus or other large vehicle who'd willing to take it the
whole way?

b. Is there anyone who'd be willing to drive with me in my own vehicle,
for all or part of the trip from California? It's 2000 miles from here to
Houston, something that two people (and coffee) can do in a day and a half
of straight driving. I have one tentative driver already and can seat
several people for two days of biodiesel-geek-talk.

It's 800 miles from Seattle to here and Chris is willing to drive it to
southern Oregon, so Seattle-to-california or at least
Oregon-to-California is the minimum needed to make this happen.

c. if this happens I"ll be putting out a call for fuel along the way (I-5
to I-10) - unwashed biodiesel or filtered WVO for blends would work. I
have transfer tanks and can haul a lot of fuel along to make this cheaper.

d. Are there people along the route with a big vehicle who could relay a
trailer full of supplies instead of one vehicle doing the entire drive?

here's the thread:
http://www.frybrid.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1562&page=1&pp=10

Also, Chris has already done some shipping and spent $700 out-of-pocket on
sending two pallets of supplies (and closed his shop for the day in the
process). Let's reimburse him for this if anyone feels like donating in
this direction.

again, we have contacts on the ground there in Houston who are working
with Astrodome refugees and other refugee families, and as of this
afternoon they say these supplies are urgently needed. 400 families who
need clothing and supplies came through our Houston Goodwill contacts'
program just today.

Please post in the Frybrid thread, or contact me offlist for further
information. I won't be monitoring these lists as much as my own email
today so please email me:

Greetings,

As active members of the biofuel community, we invite you to participate
with us in a collaborative effort to promote the use of biofuel by sharing
accurate, sustainable biofuel related information.

The past year has seen growing awareness of biofuel in many countries.
There are now many more biofuel websites and forums than in the past.
These sites help people learn to make or use biofuel. Beginners as well
as advanced users spread the word in a scientific and organized fashion,
making it easier to document your successes and questions.

The following list of biodiesel websites, discussion forums, and other
